1:54 >it felt like the game had a lot more special moves that you could do compared to Nioh Oh you sweet summer child. In Wo Long each weapon has a light attack string and heavy attack string and up to 3 Mystic Arts or whatever they're called. With two weapons equipped this means 4 basic attacks and 6 special attacks at your disposal In Nioh each weapon has 3 light attack strings and 3 heavy attack strings divided up between the 3 stances. Each stance usually also has a special move for followups to those strings, like light attack -> heavy attack for a unique move. Each stance also usually has moves bound to special inputs, like Guard + Light/Heavy Attack. Let's use sword as a case study Three light, three heavy. On High Stance, Morning Moon for the LA->HA followup, Blue Moon for Guard+LA, Flowing Shadow for Guard+HA, Tiger Sprint for the sheathe attack binding (Stance Switch+Hold Sheathe) and Shadow Sword for the HA->LA followup. On Mid Stance, Kick for the LA->HA followup, Severing Spin for Guard+LA, Reverse Impact for Guard+HA, Night Rain for the sheathe attack binding and Shadow Sword for the HA->LA followup (available on all stances so I won't list it again for Low). On Low Stance, Swallow's Wing for the LA->HA followup, Kurama Sword Dance for Guard+LA, Sword Ki for Guard+HA, Iai Quickdraw for the sheathe attack binding and Heaven Flash for Attack+Forward Dash That's not even all the skills sword has, just an example of a fully-stocked skill loadout you could use. With all of those equipped, Sword has three unique light and heavy attack strings and with a fully set skill customization FOURTEEN unique special attacks, compared to Wo Long's three per weapon. AND you can have two weapons equipped just like Wo Long So Wo Long total with two weapons = Basic attack strings 4, special moves 6 Nioh total with two weapons = Basic attack strings 6, special moves 25+ depending on the weapon combination Hopefully now you see why I find that statement hilarious
Honestly this game is what made me want to check out Nioh and I am currently enjoing Nioh 2 a lot. Coming back to footage of this game, I do not see this as a Nioh or Sekiro game at all but as a totally different beast. Right now is the best part to be critical about this game to encourage Team Ninja to double down on the unique aspects this game brings to the table while also wanting things to be more expansive in the final release (which will probably happen anyways). From what I heared about the Nioh 1&2 Demo, Team Ninja listened to feedback very well
Comparing it to sekiro is only relavent when talking about its place in team ninjas gameography Nioh and dark souls in the base of what they've made Bloodborne and strangers of paradise is the more casual and aggressive version with alot of 1 time things Sekiro and wo long are the game with alot more movement control but a bigger demand for general button execution
i played the demo on my friends ps5. it's weird to me. its DNA has too little nioh but also too little sekiro and it's clearly both derived and inspired by those games respectively. maybe if the demo took place in a later section with more meat it would've come across better to me but honestly it just made me wanna play more nioh 2. still gonna pick it up when it comes out but i'm not confident it'll win me over
did you just really go through the demo with a summon and try to say it wasn't what you hope, its for players who enjoyed nioh difficulty and soulslike in general and i knew about the game since first trailer just try to play these games without summons or co-op cuz these 2 things wont let you exp the whole game mechanics if agro was lost from you all of these types games become ez and fights will looks stupid.im hyped for it a game from the folks who did nioh couldn't ask for more
I ran through a bit of the begining with a summon until I died once, and then brought him back again, but I did play alot of it with them, probably not really shown in this footage just cos I grabbed whatever since these quick looks arent meant to be like my usual scripted content that I prefer doing but can't cos of time also like i had no idea this game existed until the demo dropped and I watched no trailers I was just like "oh new nioh game? cool" That being said while I don't think this one is for me and I'll just go back to grinding out the late game nioh 2 and strangers of paradise stuff if I want more of team ninjas take on the subgenre I do realise its most definately for the more hardcore fans of Nioh's post game stuff
I always loved souls games but i start to have an indisgestion. Pizza taste good but if every restaurant sarted to make only pizza i would be very desapointed. Seem that because souls lgame were good everyone is doing it but its starting to fell repetitive
I can get that, usually theres enough different in each game to make me feel fine playing them but I definately wasn't hugely keen on DS3 when I played it since DS1-3 are all very simular and i'd played a bunch before touching 3
Sounds like they're doubling down on exactly the design aspects of Nioh that I despise. A combat system that focuses on being punishing in itself does not necessarily lead to satisfaction when you power through and even Nioh already falters more often than it succeeds in my mind. The Souls formula is an incredibly delicate one to properly balance. I'll keep my eye on this one, as it genuinely looks fantastic, but that tempers my excitement quite a bit.
Nioh is not Team Ninja's dark souls, classic ignorant and superificial view, and you are doing exactly doing the same with Wo Long, Team Ninja games are not like your typical fromsoft game that has so simple mechanics you know how it works in a couple of days, these games are beasts of their own and so much better than fromsoft games
Yeah they're different but they're also parallel to each other The fact of it is, nioh wouldnt exist in the form that it does if it weren't for the souls games Also it seems like your turning this isnt a contest of which is better, but both games while simular are very different and have different appeals Liking one over the other for those differences is cool and interesting for discussion but you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about :/

Like Sekiro? That's good I think we reaching the limit overbloat of how much we can stretch the Souls formula(even if the games would still be fun).

this is Nioh Spinoff ?
same dev team, spirtual successor
sequel/spin off in terms of mechanics and gameplay but nothing to do with story as far as I'm aware
no, it's not
