I had a job at united technologies one time running monel for a oxygen line in an explosive environment. We tested 5 welders before we found one that could make the welds. Very high nickle content makes welding this alloy difficult. You are very good and would have been a great asset in our local.

When it comes to welding rod, I like to leave the stamped alloy name on and just bend the rod to 90 degrees at the name,
that way I know what alloy the rod is and it gives me a way of picking the rod off a flat surface while wearing gloves
by rolling the rod until the little tail is upright and grabable.
It also lets me know what end of the rod is hot if I lay it down.....
It looks like you do not need a post flow on the bead , unlike Stainless, is that correct? Thanks

Drip 3/32 on one side and drag over. Lay wire on monel and other nickel alloys is not the best way to root. Monel also holds a lot of heat. Around the same size pipe I was hot passing on 220 and filling at 280. Nickel alloys heat is generally your friend. This rooting method works great from duplex to inco to even pure nickel.

@@ninesixteengenetix monel is an alloy that contains copper and nickel, yes, along with other alloying elements in small percentages. Main part of the alloy though is Nickel, making up 60% plus.
By Copper Nickel, im guessing he means CuNi 90/10 (90% copper, 10% nickel) or 70/30 (70% copper 30% nickel)

Monel is a nickel copper (more nickel then copper) and copper-nickel or the other cool trade names is more copper then nickel. Rod rn67 welds pretty good but smwelding that shit to mild steel with whatever that other filler is… sucks.

Why do these welding videos assume we all know what Monel 400 alloy is? If you assume we all know it all, then why make an instructional video? And what is the CFH of the torch? Sounds like the flow is strong enough to arc gouge with, if it was air instead of argon.

What makes you think this is an instructional video? He's just demonstrating how he welds this thing, not trying to teach anybody watching this how to weld it. No way you're going to learn how to weld monel from a video.

@@kylejames255 When one knows welding and has experience for to many years one can becomes dated by stating the years welding, it is hard to feel really challenged with any of the welding method types. I must be guilty of saying something IGNORANT. No ignorant rudeness intended Kyle. Just someone who mastered the art form of welding. Peace fella too.
