2019 Nissan Altima - Forget About The Maxima

  • Nissan pulled out all the stops with their latest Altima. Whether you're looking for the latest in turbo engine technology, loads of standard features, or affordable all-wheel-drive, the Altima has a great deal going for it. Yes, you read that right, AWD is now an option. Unlike other midsized sedans that gave offered AWD, Nissan decided to make it a $1,350 option on any trim including the base model which rivals the Subaru Legacy for AWD base model value. Nissan decided to toss in their latest safety gadgets, CarPlay and Android Auto, and some next generation zero gravity seats for good measure. The result leaves the Maxima in the dust and provides an interesting alternative to the Camry and Accord. Can it beat the Japanese competition? Maybe, depending on what you're looking for.

For daily driver, riding to work back-forth I don't plan to transport horses and cows in the cabin. I mean, even the Civic is as large or even larger than an Accord 5 years ago. I guess I'm gonna be buying "sub-compact" cars to get a mid size sedan or coupe.

    One thing you missed is that the 2.5 is a new engine, same displacement but mostly new internals. As well as the CVT is a new design. I bought a Platinum AWD and love it. I don't know if the CVT will be better and DID get extended powertrain , just in case. Hopefully don't have to use it. You hear all the stories, but then you hear Hyundai has this problem and Ford has this problem and Toyota had a ton of recalls several years back. Make your own decisions, not what the trolls have to say. At least 70% of powertrain failures are due to lack of maintenance or owner abuse. Bet half the people dissing the CVT haven't even driven one.

      There is a good reason for this. If a LED module goes bad after the warranty expires it will cost you hundreds of dollars to replace it. A burned out standard mini lamp will cost you about 2-3 dollars at most. Also the LEDs have a terrible fast flicker that is very distracting to some people like myself.

      I just got the sunset drift 2019 Altima SR too, days ago. Love it. Replaced a 2017 Sentra Nismo that was repurchased (lemon law). Love the smooth ride, acceleration and cornering is fine, great powerful bassy radio, nice sport look inside and out, and amazing 1st day highway 35 mpg (sticker top is 39 mpg). And can't beat the price. Still almost two for one over the cost of my 2014 Mustang. And the sunset drift color is to Nissan what Grabber Blue was to the Mustang... unique!

    If they'd ditch that horrible CVT they'd have a winner. I've only been in an Altima one time in my life when I rented one a couple years ago and it was the most comfortable car I've ever driven. Drove straight-through from Chicago to Boston and I didn't have any back fatigue. Not to mention it got about 44 mpg doing 80 the whole way.

    • @haroonahmed7357
      @haroonahmed7357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Altima introduced CVT at 2008. So you probably drove 2007 model which is more then a decade old.

    • @zeke937
      @zeke937 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Actually, the 07 model also had a CVT because that was part of the 4th gen that ran from 07- 12'.If it was a couple years ago you might have driven the 5th gen that ran from 2013-2018 (with it getting a face lift in 2016). Keep in mind that the 2016-2018 models look a bit different exterior wise to the 2013-2015 models even though they both fall under the 5th gen category.

    • @smack9x
      @smack9x 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their sales have went up significantly since the CVT was introduced over 10 years ago. Why would they ditch it? Their old auto trans was terrible.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I drove a 2016 with a CVT. To answer smack9x - Their CVT is one of the worst in the industry, they've had to replace thousands of them under warranty, imagine how many will fail the moment the car is out of warranty. The CVT design is significantly inferior to a standard automatic, they are weaker, less resistant to heat and have a massive single point of failure, their drive belt, which is 100% non-serviceable. Once it breaks (and it will) it's new transmission time...

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgot to say that there are two reasons car makers have been turning to the CVT. First, because they achieve higher MPG ratings and secondly, because they are cheaper. Cheap transmissions don't bode well for the longevity of the car.

Good rear set leg room is about the only selling point, they are trying to give folks a reason to get the maxima over this so they are making it less sporty and fun to drive and more of a family sedan.
