Troy Review, Toverland GCI Wooden Roller Coaster | Better Than Ever in 2022?

  • Troy is a Great Coasters International wooden roller coaster at Toverland. This giant GCI showcases everything the company is known for with the swooping drops, twisted layout, and quick pops of airtime. I found this ride overrated in my past visits to Toverland, but did my thoughts change in 2022?

    It's an incredible ride! So exhilarating. I love how much of it feels unsafe, as if you are going too fast for the track and going to fly off. I love this park, very exciting future and very well run.

    The whole thing with troy is that it keeps going. It feels like an endless ride with no break to take a little breath.

    I really love this coaster, the pacing is just on point and you feel the forces in every turn and airtime hill. The first drop is also really dope in the backrow. Keep up your awesome content!

    I love Troy. It is special for me being my 100. It's also the coaster I've ridden more than any other. I also love how when it's quiet the ride ops just let you lap it only having to change rows if someone is waiting. Shout out to the Ride Ops for being awesome...! 🙌😁

    I still remember rude this thing in like opening year or so, and it was running amazingly fast. It was definitely one of my favorite wooden roller coasters at the time. Would love to ride it again, since I haven't ridden it ever since.

    We rode it in the dark, when the handrails along the tracks were decorated with Christmas lights. An intense experience
    I prefer a daylight ride though

      Sounds cool! Didn't know they had Troy open for winter.

    I first rode this beast yesterday. it was my first big thrill ride. I only had ridden a couple of mild family coasters before this. It was awesome.

      I rode it on a cold morning while it was winter and every hill gave airtime.

      I'm surprised the park is still open this time of year!

      This is the first time that they open the outside area in the winter.

    I had incredible luck on my first and only visit so far. I was able to ride both Fenix and Troy about 5-6 times each in nice warm weather while still being able to ride all the other roller coasters and some other rides.
    Troy was definitely the highlight. It feels so out of control, pulls great forces and its pacing is seriously relentless. The roughness was notable, but in a good way that just added to the feeling. I got rides all over the day and I never noticed quite as much how a roller coaster can warm up. I love wooden coasters and Troy's exactly what I'd want in one.

    I just subscribed to your channel and I love the detailed experiences you provide. I’ll live a 30-40 min drive from Toverland and I experienced Troy being more intense and having more airtime too this year. I thought this was me (as my experience of rollercoaster can change depending how I feel) but hearing you experiencing this as well makes be believe that the weather made the coaster better? I did not even know that the weather could have influence on the coaster. Maybe it has something to do with Covid that the coaster has been shut down for a while prevrious years...who knows... Looking forward to your other video's as well.

      Wood coasters tend to run faster in heat.

  • @CivilianSatellite

    I think it might just be running exceptional in general this year. I did not visit on that hot a day, and the way you described your rides on Troy were very similar to how I'd have described mine.

    Nice review! I’m honestly not a huge fan of the style of GCIs but this ride really does it right, I love how the pacing and unexpected airtime looks

    I rode this thing in the summer, so great that I can now compare my experience with yours. I was actually quite impressed by Troy's airtime, but that might be because I'm less used to the feeling than you.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      It seemed to run well this year from what others said too.

    I went to the park twice this year, once in March and once in August, and it was running like this both times. Troy is possibly having its best year yet.

    Finally thou hath seen the light. This is the coaster everyone's been raving about. I ride Troy a lot and it's definitely a temperamental beast, but she's been absolutely hauling lately. Troy is, in fact, the finest ride in the Netherlands and I will hear no argument about it. Untamed can bite me.
    On the subject of trackwork: I do agree Troy has been running rough this year. Toverland does trackwork every winter season but they have become more ambitious in terms of winter openings for this year. That means the window for trackwork will be shorter. I still imagine they'll do some work.

    This seriously looks like the 3rd best GCI or something, it's very simular to Thunder Hewd but even better because it's longer. I love hoe the station fly bye is so late in the ride, it makes it feel long and the pacing never dies. I overall am not a huge fan of GCISs honestly, they are rides that have great pacing but lack in almost every force department. But even if it doesn't have good forces, the pacing is one of the best in the world let's be real.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  ปีที่แล้ว

      While some other woodies can beat GCI in the airtime strength department, their pacing and quantity of elements shines.

  • @VillasByrne
    @VillasByrne ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To me, this i the best woodie i have done. I also found it to have some pretty suprising positives for a GCI! And the laterels was deffenitely stronger than the other European GCI's i have done, which is everyone except Thunderbird

    This is my second favourite wooden coaster, I barely prefer it to Wodan but the ride last year made me like Troy a little bit more because of its length and strength. I do still prefer Colossos to this it's a pretty big gap, the pacing isn't nearly as good but the stand out elements are better than any moment on troy.

    I didn't like this ride (rode it in summer).
    Rough, too focused on lateral g's, some uncomfortable unexpected high positive g's and , also, the airtime hurts a bit because of the restraint (if you have a bit of a belly)

    • @CanobieCoaster

    How does it compare to the top US GCIs? I like GoldStriker the best. Renegade is second closely followed by mystic Timbers. From the video this seems closer to prowler or thunderhead level but most people seem to like it more, what are your thoughts?

    You should definnently try Troy (or DesTroy as it's called at Halloween) at night! It's definnently one of the best things there is. They add flamethrowers, lights, a smoke curtain at the fligh-trough and it's just crazy! I don't understand how people like this ride. It's way too rough to be enjoyable, and the only good elements are the first drop, wave turn, floater hill and station fly by. For the rest of the ride I just wanted it to end.
