- Flug der Damonen is a Bolliger & Mabillard wing coaster at Heide Park. This ride is a tour de force. What doesn't this ride do well? It has great pacing and wonderful elements. And the presentation is top notch with theming, a custom soundtrack, and brilliant use of terrain.

This was a sleeper for me over the summer. Didn’t know anything about it but when I got off, it was easily my favorite of the (6) B&M wing coasters I’ve done. You literally feel like a dragon flying over an old Midevil town of sorts

Finally some love for Flug der Dämonen! Terribly underrated coaster, it's in my top ten. Word on the street is that Fénix is Europe's best wing but FdD feels like a much more complete ride to me. Fénix is probably a hair more intense.
Fenix is more intense, but I prefer this one.
This has gotta be one of the coolest roller coaster gimmicks! And it simply looks beautiful on camera too, I hope to ride it someday
It's a great ride
I like how this one sounds. I was riding Wild Eagle last week, and it reminded me just how much I adore wing coasters, even one without the greatest layout. It has a slight rattle on the outside seats, but I deal with it for the best wing sensation.
Wild Eagle is fun, but that's such a weird layout for the genre.
When the Ops saw my smiler shirt they let me go another round :D i like this rollercoaster alot

Great review, this coaster has a solid layout, especially for a B&M. This coaster looks like one of the better B&M wing coasters, only possibly beaten by Tbird and Falcon.

I have been looking forward to see this video! It‘s currently my second most favourite coaster because it is the very first „intense“ coaster that I rode (I only rode one looper before this which was Big Loop) Nice review and I also agree with you!

Pacing was awesome: very tight and compact as opposed to an out and back like Gatekeeper. Totally different experience. Loved it!

One of the few reviews that I kind of disagree honestly. Not a terrible ride, but I felt that every element felt really similar and floaty and in my opinion the pacing is actually the biggest problem of this layout, especially compared to rides like Fenix that charge through the whole experience. Here, you get some great positives in the valleys but crawl through the inversions. The problem with Heide Parks newer coaster since Kolossos is that they are all good, but not fantastic and this one is no different.
Isn't a wing coaster supposed to take inversions at slower pace?
I don't think it has anything to do with pacing.
After 7 visits at heide park I also felt the same forces as described in the video maybe you have ridden it on a bad day?
Anyway in the day it is most of the time personal preference what you enjoy more. Fenix for example focuses on and more intense and fast pased layout which Flug der Dämonen does not try to archive with its own layout
I view pacing as how engaged I am in a layout. Speed helps, but a ride can still have great pacing to me if there are no dead spots.
Interesting review. Heide Park was my local park for many years and I always thought the ride was rough and slow paced in comparison to other Wing Coaster. Gotta praise the setting and scenary they built the ride in though - they really used the existing buildings and landscaping.
I like the speed it takes the elements myself.

This is still my favorite wing.
1:21 i actually like that all the coasters in the transsylvania section (and big loop for some reason) have the same paint scheme, because from the other side of the lake it almost looks like one giant coaster instead of four seperate ones if you don't look too closely. but i also agree with you that FdD looks best up close, because wing coasters are just so damn picturesque.
It's a neat skyline.
I slightly prefer Fenix, mainly cause theming, but FdD is essentially equal in forces, just different. Warmed up back row right side is dope, cause some floaty elements even gain snap. Super underrated ride.
I take this over Fenix for the setting and extra elements.
Of the five wing coasters I’ve ridden, this is easily my second favorite behind Thunderbird. This ride was surprisingly forceful and I loved all of the elements on this ride! A shame I only got to ride it once. I saw it still operating so I headed there for a reride but they closed all the queues an hour before closing
At least you got one ride on it.

A 10!?!😱😱 I expected an 8-8,5. But I am glad you like it this much. I must admit its only my 4th favourite of coasters in this park, but fun for sure

It's a great park.
I find it to be a very pleasant ride. Not super intense or wow-ing, but extremely enjoyable and I feel like I'm chilling when riding it, despite it still providing good forces. That's not a critique, if it sounds like it. Great ride!

The world's only Demonic Knott makes this ride so unique and fir that reason alone makes it underated. But the ride packs in so much other stuff to, it'd a really good length and layout.

I can totally understand your review. I also thought the coaster was excellent. But I also know Raptor in Gardaland with its ground level layout and many near misses. The two coasters differ somewhat in terms of layout, but I couldn't say which I like better. My dream wing coaster would be a mix of these two. The basic layout of Flug der Dämonen with some ground level elements of Raptor at the end.
Raptor has the better near-misses, but this one has better elements.
While I personally prefer Fenix because its kinda the I305 of wing coasters, this ride is definetly a close second!

I've only ridden the 4 in the US and Thunderbird is my clear favorite, but this is the one Wing Coaster from Europe that I think could be better than it. It is pretty high on my bucket list. The Demonic Knot looks really good. Is Thunderbird second for you behind this?
I think I'd take GateKeeper over Thunderbird too.
I'm Chinese and I've experienced some really good coasters in my country. There's a good wing coaster called "Parrot coaster" or something like that. It's in Chimelong, Zhuhai, and it's intense and fun. This one looks a bit better, though.
Falcon looks great over there too.

I really hate the entrance path/queue line.
Also fun fact, you can still see some leftover parts of the log flume. That round building after you go down that first path used to be the entrance/exit of the old attraction too.

I was actually really underwhelmed with the wing coaster after my first ride on Raptor but Flug der Damonen completely changed my mind and is still my favourite wing coaster but I have yet to ride Fenix at Toverland which I hear is also a contender
Fenix is intense, but it doesn't have the length.
I only got one ride on it this summer and it actually happened to be in your favorite seat! It is in my top 10 favorite coasters of all time that I’ve been on (which unfortunately isn’t as much as I wish it was) but it’s not actually my favorite wing coaster. Imo Fenix at Toverland is still better. To me Fenix just feels a bit more forceful and also a bit better paced, as that ride doesn’t slow down at all and hauls through the elements. And it also has better decoration and a better score imo.
I think Fenix is more intense, but I prefer this one's length and placement.
@@CanobieCoaster the track of Fenix is actually longer and so is the total ride time. But I’m guessing a big part of that is the pre-show.

Me too. I once heard that they originally planned to keep the wildwasserbahn with Flug der Dämonen wich would've been possible but Merlin decided against it...

For me this ride was eh, the restrains kept digging into my leg and after 2 rides they came down so hard that I had a little bruise on them.
Weirdly, fenix it's restrains are completly fine, but the ones on flug are so bad.
My only issue with the wings are the old ones with the harness that dug into your collarbone. This one doesn't have that problem.

Did you like the ride back in 2019, and did you have your same thoughts about the ride after your 2022 rides?
So how would you compare this to other coasters at the same park, like Colossos, Big Loop, Bobbahn, and Limit, which was later renamed Toxic Garden?

I really have to reride this one it seems. So far I found this coaster fun and smooth, but not really that memorable or intense. I do think it really warmed up over the years, as in my three visits it always seemed to be slightly faster than before and maybe now it really reached its potential.
It was better for me in 2022 than 2019.

I've ridden 3 B&M wings: X-Flight (SFGA), Gatekeeper (CP), and Wild Eagle (Dollywood) and theoretically I love the idea of wing coasters-- no track below, no track above or posts blocking view, but the way they are just so slow and lumbering through all of the elements is disappointing. We need a single-rail raptor-like speed and agility but with wing seating.
I thought this one took the elements at a good speed.
So why was the log ride taken out for this? Was it old age, low popularity or something else?
They have a second flume still. It also may be Schwarzkopf going out of business.
it was still very popular but needed a big refurb, since spare parts from Schwarzkopf are rare. Rumors say that they had a plan to keep it, which would've definetly been possible even with Flug der Dämonen. But Merlin sadly decided against it (big mistake IMO). In fact, everything but the drop and return run to the station is still there over 10 years later...

I made that video before I rerode some of the European ones. This one moved up.
for some reson flug der demonen seams so much shorter in height than the other wing coasters such as swarm
I think the initial lift may be shorter, but the height differential gives the full height.

Only done the european ones. For me its just slightly better then Phenix in Toverland. Phenix does everything excellently but is a bit to short. Deamonn when i road it was just a tad less but more then compensate that for all the elements it has.
It might just be personal taste or when you rode it only been to heide park on 2 different days so i can certainly see why you think its way better.

I dont know, Flug der Dämonen in Heide Park or Fenix in Toverland. I Like them both the Same, Fenix has more Power and G-Force, and Flug der Dämonen has more Inversions, and is a Bit longer and faster. I dont know. But im Glad to have these coasters in Europe 😁

I prefer Colossos, but I gave Flug a 1 point bump because it's elite for its model.

It's a fantastic coaster but you can't say is beter then gatekeeper.
I personally think the layout is stronger.
I mean I liked it but not at all as much as you, i didnt find it more than some good float.
I like floaty rides.
I gotta say I am kinda shocked about that rating lol. I agree It's a good ride, bit in my opinion Fenix is superior by a long shot. Honestly the pacing is this rides biggest problem. Besides the speed hill, each and every Element is so high of the ground. Because of that, all of the Elements feel really slow, making the pacing kinda weak. Fenix in comparison just flys through it's layout, using the intense low the the ground curves and the helix to keep up the pacing, while also having big inversions for variety.
Also, the Theming for Flug der Dämonen is kinda disappointing. The start of the queue is really cool, but besides that, most of the rides theme is reused by the log flume and it's not all that great. Besides that ugly green wall, Fenix is on a whole other level themingwise. The Landscaping is beautiful, the Queueline is amazing and also there is a darkridepart with a pretty good Dragon Animatronic.
That being said, I think Flug der Dämonen is a good ride, but not the best wing coaster.

Man, I really need to get to toverland. I'm not even 2h away by car. That being said I experienced FdD on to different visits. My first one was lackluster too, but the second one was more forceful on those high elements.
Fenix is more intense, but I prefer this ride for the length and setting.
A bit overrated imo
I honestly think it's underrated.
