    Thanks for putting this out there, the end result is perfect and it's very helpful for those who are brave enough to attempt a DIY job. The quality plus detail/explanations you go into, is top notch, and your videos deserve much more views tbh!.

    Your series of videos are fantastic. It’s given me the confidence to start my own build. I’ve got one issue.. I’ve poured the base for an 8x3.5m. I want an additional room to store a Massey 35 tractor (not very big). So I’ll need a 2.5 wide side room, to end up with a 5.5m garden room and a 2.5m room for the tractor. Obviously on this side room I need step free access. Would I have any issues with what will essentially be a large gap in that wall? As there will not be any attachments to the concrete base for 1.8m so I can drive in/out.

      No that will be absolutely fine. Put doubled up 8x2 joists above the opening and that will do 👍

      Yes it does! If applied once per year in spring. 2 coats protects it best 👍

      Planning my build for April, your videos are brilliant, thanks for taking the time to make them! For your door trims do you just cut a length of cedar down to size instead of buying the corner trims?

      @@thepenrice1402 you’re welcome! Great to hear you’re going to build one. For the trims around the doors we use 38x18 batten from Cedar Direct. We also buy the 94 x 18mm cedar straight edge board for the door reveals and rip them down to size 👍

      Depends on use really. A small opening window is sufficient

    I really like your videos, but I’m struggling to find lengths of Cedar that are reasonably priced. Even the alternative Larch is expensive. How much did the Cedar you use cost please…?

    • @samnichols4361
      @samnichols4361 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All timber is at a legendarily high cost so you're going to struggle to get a low cost. The most accurate costing I've had for a 5 x 4 building, the costings from multiple providers I've had for Cedar for all four walls was around £2500 and larch at £1800. The cost is, to some extent, the cost. You can reduce costs by using sheeting on the back as is done here.

      @@samnichols4361 thank you for taking the time to reply; its really appreciated 👍 - Larch on the front wall only it is then

      @@JohnSmith-rp7bc Quite alright - I am this stage of planning my own space out there, and apart from the bi-fold door, door cladding it is the single largest expense by a fair way .; It was depressing looking at the square meterage and just knowing how much it would be.

    • @JohnSmith-rp7bc
      @JohnSmith-rp7bc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samnichols4361 yes, the prices would be something to not tell the wife about. But the principle that you’ll enjoy the benefits long after the price has been forgotten really do apply to this scenario. Secondly, i think that if I used something that didn’t look as good then I think I’d always be explaining how the price of larch or cedar was too high to anyone that visited, and thirdly, the price of plastic composite cladding is on the rise and will soon be comparable. As I’m planning to clad my log cabin in dark steel on the other 3 sides to protect the build even further from weather issues, I think some stained timber to the front wound be a good contrast. Still can’t get away from the price though…..🤷🏻‍♂️
