ACC | Wow! My BEST EVER Race on LFM!!! GT3 @ Brands Hatch

- Welcome back to Assetto Corsa Competizione on Low Fuel Motorsport, and boy have I got a race in store for you today!
It’s the Coach Dave GT3 Sprint at Brands Hatch, and I’m starting down in P14. BUT I’m not far off the pace at all… my qualifying time of 1.25.3 is just one second off pole position. That’s the closest I’ve ever been!
Last time out I finished 7th. Can I improve on that today? Can I challenge for my first ever LFM podium? Stay tuned… you won’t wanna miss this one!

Nicely done Chris! Too bad on the rejoin... some people don't accept that they screwed up and now are obligated to rejoin SAFELY, even if that means giving up more positions. All in all though, can't be mad about that result! :) Congrats!
Thank you! Yeah, I wouldn’t have finished 3rd had he not spun out, and luckily the rejoin didn’t cost me in the end. It just made the final few laps a bit more stressful than they needed to be… but that only made it more sweet when I crossed the line!

Thank you Stu! Think I timed it just right entering this race… originally Laguna was on this week’s schedule, but the server was crashing so they’d literally just switched to Brands when I entered. Clearly all the entrants had been practicing hard for Laguna, judging by how many people were making mistakes 🤣

That was a brilliant drive and a fantastic race. I love Brands Hatch, but it can be savage. It pulls you in, rewarding your confidence with huge chunks of lap time, but destroys you when you get too greedy. A thoroughly well-deserved podium.

Well done Chris, well deserved podium there. I think at Brands more than anywhere else, if you can keep it clean drive a consistent race there are lots of opportunities for good finishes. Got a 2nd place myself there earlier today :)
Congrats on the 2nd place! I think I timed it well, hopping into this race right after it had been switched from Laguna Seca. It looks like a lot of the drivers had probably practiced loads for Laguna, and weren’t well prepared for Brands. So it was a great opportunity to pinch a good result!

Thanks Paolo, it’s taken me long enough to get there! Think I got lucky… LFM switched the track schedule an hour before this race, it was due to be Laguna Seca. So I reckon all the faster drivers had been practicing hard for Laguna, and weren’t prepared for Brands. So for me just hopping in, I was at no disadvantage. Might be a while before I repeat these heroics! 🤣

Haha, that’s a weekly occurrence! Yeah, really solid performance… not the quickest, but hardly a mistake made. Got lucky by the late track change… schedule was only amended 2 hours before this race. I suspect all the keen ACC racers had been practicing hard for Laguna Seca, and weren’t prepared for Brands. So it was a great time to enter that race!
That was beautiful Chris! The redemption arc from Zolder to this is just amazing to see and what sim racing is all about!! Great pace and consistency mate, the podium was absolutely deserved. Not going to lie, when you hit that lambo (out of no fault of your own) my heart dropped. I was terrified to see a meatball flag - what a plot twist that would have been! Super video Chris :)

Great race, Brands is my "yee ha" track, I might not be great there but it's one of my favourites as are you and your style, well done on the podium.

Outstanding result mate i have tried every sim out there but no better feeling than getting a podium on ACC,so hard to over take and very difficult to be quick, set ups tyre pressures need to be spot on so well done.
Yeah, I have to say this is my most satisfying result ever. In other sims, I always feel like I’ve got a win/podium in me, if I get placed on the right grid. But in ACC, I honestly didn’t think it would ever happen! So was really chuffed with this one. Cheers for the continued support with my ACC journey, it’s truly appreciated 😃

Haha yeah! The rejoin at Paddock Hill Bend certainly made the final few laps far more nervy than they should have been! Made it all the sweeter, when I finally crossed the line though 😃

Congrats! Well done! Glad you stuck it out in ACC. I got my LFM license but haven't raced there yet. I really should give it a go. Season 2 for my club starts this week, and I've just switched from the BMW to the new Lambo. I'm able to set faster times in that than I was in the BMW or even the new Ferrari! Give it a try if you haven't.
Thank you Eric! No, I’ve not tried any of the other cars, apart from the Ferrari 488 before I switched to the BMW. At some point I’m going to have to try a few different ones out.

Yeah, sadly this is one of the most common problems I encounter across all sims. People tend to forget the basics when the adrenaline is pumping after a spin!
Good commentary and good race. People hate unsafe rejoins infront of them then do it themselves.
Haha yeah exactly… I’ve accidentally done it myself too, it’s easy to forget your common sense when the blood is pumping after a spin.
I think they all saw you coming closer on the relative board and got scared. That's the only possible explanation I have for all those weird mistakes the cars in front of you made. :D Jokes aside great race Chris! You can absolutely report that Lambo driver for that awful rejoin by the way on LFM. It's against the rules to rejoin like that.
Haha yes it did feel like they were all jumping into the barriers to avoid me at one point 🤣 a couple of people have recommended a report for that rejoin, so I think I will do that later. I hate to be ‘that’ person who snitches to the teacher! But at the same time, I know the LFM report system is there to maintain and upkeep the driving standards. I just hope he doesn’t take it personally 😃

Congrats. I started P14 last night, got up to P10 but ended up P15 after dipping wheels on the grass around Sheene ... twice. You're definitely quicker than I am around Brands, a circuit I've never got to grips with.
Haha yeah, what a coincidence! That exact thought crossed my mind after the race had finished. I got really lucky with the late change in track. It was scheduled to be Laguna Seca… I suspect all the keen LFM racers had been practicing hard all weekend for Laguna, and weren’t prepared for Brands. It’s one of my favourite tracks, so I can always just hop into it and be reasonably steady. Thanks for inspiring me with your podium heroics last week!

Solid clean race from you! There were some very strange incidents in there. I myself have been experiencing technical difficulties since Friday and haven't been able to race in the weekend because of it. Though I don't expect them to have the same problems tbh.
I'm in VR and my headset is going black randomly for 1-2 seconds. Very scary the first time it happened cause I was a few laps into a LFM race...
Yeah! So there were two incidents that almost looked like the cars lost their steering input… or the wheel got disconnected, or something. Really bizarre. Jeez yeah a black screen on the opening lap of an ACC race must have been terrifying! 😰
Strange cos LFM changed from Laguna Seca to Brands due to apparent connection issues, maybe it wasn't the circuit

Race was due to be Laguna Seca… I suspect all the people who are usually faster, had been practicing hard for Laguna, and weren’t prepared for the last-minute switch to Brands Hatch. So I was able to take full advantage!

Haha I know, mad, wasn’t it! If he was that desperate to rejoin quickly, he probably could have stayed on the wide, outside line and done it reasonably safely. But driving horizontally across the track, straight to the apex 🤦🏻♂️ I was so lucky that hit didn’t end my race!
Always better to be consistent! I’m learning now after a year and revisiting tracks for the first time. I’m marginally quicker but much more consistent and the results/safety rating are showing
Absolutely. I only ever do 1-2 races a week, so consistency/safety is key for me… I don’t want to risk crashing it and ruining what might be my only race of the week. So often I can be a bit over-cautious, but sometimes it really does pay off. This race is the perfect example - I picked up 11 places without needing to make an overtake!

What set-up do you have?
Thank you mate, glad you enjoy it. I only have a very basic setup, all second-hand kit. An old Thrustmaster TX wheel, Thrustmaster TLCM pedals, and I use a foldable Playseat Challenge to set up with. Great video and thanks for sharing your times I’m new to ACC and I’ve been exclusively running on brands hatch. Needless to say I’m not running the pace that you and the rest of the field are.. how long did you have to practice here to get to those kind of times?
Excellent, glad you’ve started racing on it. To be honest, my pace goes up and down depending on how much time I spend in the sim generally, rather than specific practice on one track. I’ve done 150+ races in ACC (probably about 100 races when this video was made). This race was recorded at a time when I was racing regularly each week, and not driving any other sims much. ACC is the hardest sim to master, I’ve found, so it takes a lot of time and patience. If you’re driving other sims regularly too, that makes it even tougher. Good luck!
@@chrisrogerssimracing thanks for the reply! That gives me a lot of perspective. My only sim experience is ACC on Brands Hatch, and I have primarily focused on the GT3 992 R - I figure it's best to focus on a single track and make while I'm learning.
There are a lot of videos telling you what to do and what to fix, but there are very few that reveal how much time it takes (seat time) to really get competitive. Thanks again for sharing, and keep making those great videos!

Haha! The beauty of having the TH-cam channel is that it’s forever recorded for posterity! I need to actually win one though, to properly celebrate. But a few weeks ago, I was light years away from being anywhere near a podium, so this one was very enjoyable!

Thank you! Yeah I do enjoy a longer race. It’s just rare I make a video on them, as it’s so much more editing involved. My last RaceRoom vid was a 60min race at Spa. Certainly could be tempted by the Nords race for a laugh

Chris is highly recommend giving the new Ferrari a go, it drives very nicely and has great pace. Low 1.24's are comfortable in the race
Thanks, yeah a few people have said how easy to drive it is. And the results in this race was full of Ferraris, so it’s clearly the favourite pick at the moment. Might give it a try next race. If you can’t beat ‘em, join’em 🤣

@@RudiOnRails I’m not gonna knock the effort the guy puts in, I’m always looking for new simracing TH-camrs to watch and enjoy, I was merely stating my observation and my own viewing experience, if that’s who he unapologetically is then that’s absolutely fine, but some people like to hear the criticism even if it’s not positive, so was just giving my own personal thoughts.
Some of the re-joins are an absolute joke
Yeah, the one at Paddock Hill Bend was really bad. And I’m not just saying that because I got hit 🤣 But it looked like, if he really wanted to rejoin straight away, he could have done it a bit safer on the outside of the track. Why he drove horizontally across track, straight to the apex, is beyond me 🤷🏻♂️ Thankfully, the damage wasn’t a race-ender. But it was a big hit, I got really lucky to be able to continue ok.
@@chrisrogerssimracing See quite a few drivers just bury the throttle in frustration when they crash out giving no consideration to the other cars on track. I know a lot of people don't like to do it but that re-join is probably worthy of a report. That could very easy have been the end of your race.
@@phippsa3 Yeah I was thinking exactly that. I’m one of those that doesn’t like to file reports. But at the same time, I know how important they are to maintain and upkeep driving standards. LFM do a fantastic job with the reporting system too. So I know I should file one, and I probably will. I just need to wrestle with my conscience for a bit, feeling bad for snitching on another driver to the teacher 🤣
