Maybe I should get this expansion out of loyalty to Polish trains. I booked a train ticket from Krakow to Prague once through the Polish railway website, well in advance, paid my money, it was reasonably pricey but it was a 7-hour journey after all so fair enough. About a week before my journey, they sent me an email saying that they were doing a special deal that weekend, and because of that, they were REFUNDING me about 2/3s of the ticket price. Absolute madness, but great customer service.
Ugh bad memories. I was taking the last train back to Gdansk to Warsaw and waited on the wrong platform and wondered where my train was and just as the time was coming, I saw the train leave. I ended up having to sleep the night at Gdansk station.
I ended up getting every expansion map, but some reason my wife and I played this one first and we really liked it. It's simple and chill and the catch worked for us. We ended up doing different strategies, my wife going for the countries and I went for the tickets and both were really even. Good fun
Cool. Yeah. My feeling is the country connection bonus is weighted a bit high, so it is the dominant strategy. I wish the country connections gave just a few less points to make the decisions between countries and tickets a little more interesting.
I've not actually played this map before, but the rules of it do concern me a little that it will be one of the weaker maps, as it seems like the strategy every time will be to keep a few tickets that can be linked while linking as many countries as possible. It reminds me a little of Switzerland from that point of view, which is also one of my least favourite maps for a similar reason, that it feels like it plays the same every time of you complete your tickets while linking up the countries, then just draw tickets for the rest of the game.
It doesn't seem that appealing to someone with a lot of maps. Especially since the multiple-countries feature is how you snag big points in the Switzerland version. Still, this is more appealing than those Express games. I think Tom's right in that it's a good intro to TtR for adults who haven't played.
Every time there's mention of ticket to ride maps I get sad because for some unknown reason the best expansion of UK and Pennsylvania is nowhere to be found while other maps are widely available :-(
This has to a between printings thing as the map is still widely available in the UK. If you are desperate try Zatu Games as they will definitely ship to the US, but otherwise it will definitely come back to the US at some point.
@@BarnstormNZ People who think UK and Pennsylvania is the best are people who want the additions it adds to the game. The 'locomotives as currency' to get technology in UK, and the stocks in pennsylvania, takes Ticket To Ride and combines it with cool gaming elements gamers know and many of them like. If this is not what you want then all you said will be true.
I am quite happy with TTR US and India maps....Don't care much about othe maps...Have a bunch of them on my iPad app but don't play any else than US or India

That is far from the best map. UK is terribly slow and overly complex without making the game better. Pennsylvania is at least decent
