What is the best way to do incremental backup, let's say I want to back up only changes over last backup rather than doing a full backup. Maybe for pics and videos. Is there any option to backup phone pics and videos incrementally on ssd?
I am also looking for the same. I tried with Smart switch (Samsung), but it is the most pathetic software. Even for data on PC it wants empty storage space on the device as well
The bidei seems very good. BUT I dont see one reply from the video creator answering ANY of tge comment questions regarding the video or priblems!! I don't think thats a very good practice for people who post these and then want folllowers or upvotes in the video. I think this is very unprofessional and eliminates the whole helpfulness or purpose if the videi. Im sure many of the peiple who posted questions would agree with me!! TY
Thank you young man! Losing my S20+5G to one of the wheels of an 80k.lb tractor trailer set and never ever in my 20 years of cell usage, I've never backed up. You made a point about "keeping our stuff local versus using any cloud service", (ME!!) 👍👍
After backing up going to trade my phone in. On the new phone can i sign in to the new phone with Samsung and google acts, and not transfere any of my old photos and phone numbers
I attempted to write the BU to an external HD that had some data already written on it and kept getting a failure notice. I then inserted a new formatted 32G thumb drive and the BU was created without any problems. Then, I copied the files that are on the thumb drive and pasted that into a folder that I created on the external HD. It took a little extra time but I now have a thumb drive with the BU files and also have the BU file on an external HD. I hope this comment helps others who may have trouble writing the BU to an external HD.
You didn't mention that when you restore, it will ask you for a Samsung account to restore the data. I faced this issue, and as a result, not all data was restored.
@@TechnicallyAlexthat feature isn't needed Why waste 15% of the battery capacity I let my Smartphone charge all the way to 100% each night as I am quite a heavy user of my Smartphone so the Protect Battery Mode wouldn't give me enough charge for an entire day so 100% gives me enough for more than 3 hours per day
All I use is an external Samsung T7 500GB, a USB-C cable. I had preformatted drive on my laptop to NTFS if I remember right. Smart Switch works just fine. S22 Ultra as well.
Hi, Alex! I wanted to ask you if you can teach me how to backup not just my phone but also my tablet in the same USb drive. I am afraid to backup my tablet since I already have my phone backed up but I am afraid it may delete the phone back up because I do not know if I can back up the tablet also in that same USB drive. Please, help me out!
Can you clone that backup SSD on another disk using a computer (or a tablet), to have more than one backup, so if one fail you can use the other one? Or in case must be used the smartphone again exist some good Usb hub with active power supply to avoid the discharge of the smartphone in case of low battery or long backup?
Is there a way to do this wirelessly? My charger port is broken on my phone and is going in for warranty repair but I'm having issues backing it up because of the lack of wireless options for backing up.
So Samsung created an app specifically to backup from a Samsung phone to a Samsung device. But then they didn't bother to update the software with the big UI update. So if you have updated since May of 2023, youre SOL
How can I view the pictures and videos that were moved onto the drive individually? Not just an entire backup, i want to view the files. And can I move the files to my pc?? This is so complicated for no reason
Looks straightforward, but when I try it, it throws an error message saying there's not enough room on the phone and to delete stuff to make space. Unless it needs internal storage space for a large swap file or buffer, this makes zero sense (it's connected to a freshly formatted 2 TB external SSD which the phone recognises and can see > 1.85 TB free). Absolutely refuses to proceed.
Why do get popup message: Can’t back up your data. There’s a problem with your external usb storage device. Try formatting or replacing it. Im using a brand new Toshiba portable storage. Please provide info on how to format this device. Thank you.
At the end of the video you disconnected the USB without safely dismounting it first! Bad practice, as it can render the device useless or corrupt data on it I believe?
I got the same phone and SSD, when I plug it in, it said I need to format. Formatting gets stuck at 20%, Phone keeps rebooting. I formatted on my pc also. Phone keeps saying its unsupported format. Any ideas whats going on?
i had a seagate external hard drive 1 tgb that i use to backing up my computer and ipad. however i failed to backup my samsung s22 ultra even though it still has around 500gb available. every time it starts to back up for only a few % and than the phone told me it failed. anyone can help me?
I had the same problem when trying to BU to and external HD that already had some data written to it. The back up would fail. I then put in a blank 32G USB Thumb drive and the phone BU worked.

trying to backup to my new nvme enclosure but the device disconnects and no longer gets detected unless it first gets connected to a windows PC and then replugged into the S23 ultra. any idea why a 2tb nvme enclosure doesn't work? some are saying the 2tb nvme draws too much power? it does start up and copy from but writing any big files to it makes it break again
Thank you...any problems with your SanDisk SSD? I just read volumes of serious issues, regarding this particular unit, which I purchased from Costco just a few months ago. Any suggestions, prior to using mine, which is the 1TB version. Thanks again.
Alex, I'm looking at getting an S23+ to replace my S20 FE. My S20 has a removable SD card, which holds a lot of my data. How do I transfer that to the new S23+, which has no removable storage?
Great video Alex. I ended up buying a SanDisk Portable drive and did my first backup which was very easy to do. Question for you or anyone else that knows this answer... I have verified that I have a Samsung account on the phone itself as I can go to under Settings and see my Samsung account (which has a Gmail email address) and if I wanted I could even at the bottom of that screen log out of my Samsung account so it's indeed there and my Samsung account is pointing to my Gmail account. I took it a step further and called into Samsung and verified with a Samsung rep and they also show that I have a Samsung account and it's pointing to my Gmail account and that I would use my Gmail password to access. On my phone when I click on the Samsung account and go to Security & Privacy there's an exclamation mark and under Password it says "Password needs to be set." Samsung Rep said to ignore that because my Samsung account is pointing to my Gmail account and he was certain I could do a restore because my Gmail credentials will work. You had mentioned in the video that the backups are encrypted files and having a Samsung account is a MUST to be able to restore...Is a Samsung account pointing to my Gmail account that has a Gmail password going to work to do a Restore if that would ever be necessary?
Sandisk SSD: amzn.to/3IAGCWk (Big sale!)
Does it backup the WhatsApp media and messages
Alex. I have multiple phones. Can you use the same external drive to back up multiple phones?
Great job. Everybody else made it so confusing and complicated, but yours was perfect. DONE.....thanks again.

You didn't explain how to safely remove the ext device.
Don’t you have to demount the ssd or what ever external storage after backup is finished?

Yes
Does the SSD need to be formatted in a specific filesystem? (FAT32 / exFAT / NTFS)?
If want to use it for both windows and android. then exFAT. If you want it to be windows only then NTFS
@Just-mo6uh thank you
1:32 im curious ssd can read/write up to more 200mb/s but the time temaing to long for 22gb need 1hour 20min ??

Is it better or easier to back up a samsung phone to a samsung hard drive or samsung memory stick, or any other make of memory stick will be the same?
Any drive will work, no difference

my samsung s7 doesn't have "external storage transfer" in settings! what do i do?

I am not, but it caps at 85%

Try using a USB drive that is blank and formatted. I had a similar problem. After putting in a 32G blank thumb drive the BU worked.

Why did your screen show sd card as backup option. Isn’t this an s23 ultra without sd card?
Indeed, it is strange that even when I wanted to make a backup copy on the hard disk, the SD option appeared for me!
Would you advice your viewers to delete some of their files on their phones once the data have been backed up to free up some space on their phone?
Thank you so much! This was such a helpful video. And you presented it so clearly and concisely! Much appreciated.

Any way you can setup a routine to backup say a specific time on a specific day?
Will the backup just transfer new data that didn't exist on last backup? Or will it transfer all data again?
Great video, Alex. Can I set up my new Flip 5 with a backup from external drive? [Instead of using transfer?]
My 20fe wants me to download (Smart Switch) It didn't go directly to Backup and restore?
Thank you so much! I just did it!
Can you copy the Images files from S23 Ultra and see it in desktop?
May be in MacBook when I connect the SSD? Please tell me
Probably don’t need an answer 10 months later, but yes you can

how can i access the backup file through my computer not through the phone?
Someone talk about battery life will be worse due to Smart switch for restoring the backed up apps. Is this right?
My samsung s23 doesn't even notice me the unionshine hdd, it need more energy.. what to do?
Also your SD Card data getting saved?
Should we erase the data on the phone once we get it to the external drive?

How do you do that on the phone?
What format is your hard drive?
Hi
Can you share a video on how to remove or merge duplicate files.
Thanks
Will not work with galaxy note 20 ultra.. Only option is to plug both the ultra and the drive into a computer to make transfers.
comparing to back ing up directly to laptop with only few minutes, backing up with external driver spent me almost 2 hours. did i do something wrong?
Maybe you had an external HDD instead of an SSD which is much faster
Hello there,
Do you need to format the hard drive?
The phone will see the SSD and if not already formatted in a way it likes, it will ask if you want to format it. Say yes & it takes about 3 seconds.
What is the best format for a memory stick, to back up samsung phone that has large files, total 250gb?
I have found Fat32 works well. There are many vidoes on YT on formatting a larger device to Fat32.
I got the same phone and SSD, when I plug it in, it said I need to format. Formatting gets stuck at 20%, Phone keeps rebooting. I formatted on my pc also. Phone keeps saying its unsupported format. Any ideas whats going on?
same story, its stuck at 20%
Will this work on other Android phones
This option is not there in Iqoo
I guess its better than nothing, just sucks that you can't do incremental backups.

Is this better than Samsung SSD T7?
Good to know. Thank you!

Samsung will transfer that when you copy the phone. Make sure it is 512gb or larger than your old phone.
If you will buy your s23 while you still have the s20 you can transfer the data directly from your s20 to s23
