This is the classic Jazza videos I love. No skits, just Jazza trying an art tool he’s never used before, struggling through it and ultimately making something awesome. He’s such a great generalist and it’s these type of videos that inspire you to try new creative tools. I really hope this video performs well so we can see more like this!

I love that Jazza has kinda become one of the go-to art grandpa advisors over the years. I also love the critique of Procreate and how they just don't explain anything. I can't tell you how many times I've had to look up basic things like gradients or how the snap-to function works/shortcuts. They're great for easier-to-access versatile art tools and are beloved for a reason, but there's a lot they just don't make clear. Great if you already know, not too great if you're new to the program.

I think their strongest asset is the flip-book and action mode and if they approached it as layered flip-books; meaning you could apply a mask to a group essentially, then animate that group in real-time... that should be their focus. Even the artists who did inspirational work for the program all eventually did the bulk of their work in flip-book mode. It isn't meant to be an editing software it is meant to be a animation software for digital artists who use traditional methods of art, ya know? Even Procreate is more Fresco than it is Photoshop. They added some editing tools but they shouldn't try and compete with actual editing software. It is like they tried to do both and both suffered for it. Dreams has a really steep learning curve at the moment even with video tutorials. They need to pick a direction and method and stick to it. They also need to integrate more of their original Procreate into it to complete the tech eco-system. You should send them your nit-picks, they are very open to receiving feedback from the public, especially influential professionals such as yourself. Aaron Blaise is one of my favorites, I had no idea he did the Penguin animation.

Excellent animations, Jazza! Hope you do more! 😊
I've tried a handful of other iPad animation apps and always ran into problems of limitations; like limited frame count, some not supporting sound, and no camera features. Once I saw the trailers for Procreate Dreams, I was beyond excited, especially with unlimited amount of brushes, camera functions, sound editing, and some compositing. Not gonna lie, when the reviews came in, I was a bit disappointed. The biggest misses for me was no selection tool and the inability to export a GIF. However, the feeling of Procreate Dreams does feel very organic and smooth, like animating on paper.
Luckily the developers of Procreate always listen to feedback and frequently updates the app. So it may not be perfect now, but it could become the best iPad animation app in the future. Could take some time, but I'm looking forward to it!

All of Mac OS X and iOS is confusing and hidden in hundreds of menus. They put all their time into making a pretty UI they forget to make a practical UX. The window management on Mac is probably the worst part.

Really glad to see Jazza try out Dreams! Well put about the bell curve at the end… it takes a bit to learn, but once you get used to it it’s pretty cool! But that’s also when some of the issues become more evident. I’m glad he liked it overall. I personally think the video editing aspect is what excited me about it

Procreate Dreams is like an abusive relationship: I'm so in love with the OG Procreate drawing experience that Dreams seems like a no brainer for me, but it lacks so many basic features you'd expect from other programs.
I've done my complaining on their forums enough already, but it's a really conflicting feeling: I'm very particular about my brushes/pressure curves so working in Dreams keeps me from wasting time making things look nice and instead keeps me animating.
But so many functions are missing, like looping groups, a more adjustable timeline that doesn't force me into flipbook mode, or adjustable tween curves...
I'll proudly still use it, but I often won't recommend others to use it if they aren't as beholden to their brush engines like I am.

Ive had procreate dreams ever since it came out and its so nice oml-
Also Jazza if your reading this and wanted a faster way of importing brushes in the future, you can drag the entire folder and after a bit all of the brushes in that group will be there :D
Love watching your animation process! Makes me wanna get on dreams myself but i cant atm as im in Dublin ireland for my graduation trip and will stay in ireland for 2 weeks and i left my ipad at home (mostly due to bluetooth on the plane as the pencil is bluetooth)
Anyways cant wait for more videos like this if you decide to make more in the future!
Not sure if you know this but you can animate in procreate as well but its nowhere near this since you cant add sound which sucks, but we have dreams now and its probably one of my favorite animation apps to use after flipa-clip

Ball, stick-man and blood are the perfect combo for introductory animating. In fact, even when kids learn to draw, they often begin with those three. Heck, even cavemen pretty much started with those as well (emphasis on pretty much).
Truely the origin of human creativity.

I think this is a pretty fair assessment. I love Procreate to draw, and was initially a bit disappointed with Dreams despite having looked forward to it for months - however, after a lot of trial and error (and even more researching as you did), I can see how it has the potential to simplify a lot of the complex ideas that can arise during animation. It isn't perfect and has glaring gaps, but I'm hoping those with improve over time with updates.

I recently just finished an interactive animation course for my college and in we used Adobe Animate. I had experience with Adobe Flash before it was rebranded into Adobe Animate so I thought this would be a great chance to relearn the program and see what new features there were so after spending 8 weeks using the program I can safely say I am NEVER using Adobe Animate ever again🤬😡. I ran into so many issues/bugs I basically had to turn in an incomplete final project because of all of the problems I was having. Luckily I wasn’t the only one and the professor gave us all some lean way on our projects but it just showed me how far Adobe has failed to keep Adobe Animate relevant. It also shows that they are more interested in keeping their graphic programs like Photoshop and Illustrator more supported as those are their most popular programs. I won’t be surprised if later on we see them stop supporting Adobe Animate because with companies like Procreate creating better art programs than them they would rather just put more effort into supporting Photoshop and Illustrator.

Yes* seems to be the verdict for almost every animator who reviews it. I've done several longer projects in it now, and I find that it's usually better to do the actual drawing in Procreate and import the layers to Dreams (which you can do with drag and drop). Once they add a lasso tool to Dreams, that might change!

Moho is another one to look into. Very much a vector with tweening and bones type thing in the vein of flash/animate but with a few twists. Seems to be a slightly more minor player than toonboom but its had a few major productions done with it, and seems pretty intuitive.

in my short time using dreams, i have learnt that janky techniques are the main way to edit large sections of the timeline (which is my main issue with the app), like to make the clipping layer, id make one frame, drag it out, and cut it, all before putting the actual drawing on, and then copy and paste for repetitive parts, then tweak where necessary.
i believe everyone knows that this app can be one of the best going, if it just had a few things added to it, which many people have already spoken about

I don’t think most people realize what the developers for PC Dreams are doing. They definitely released it too early tho. In comparison to Toonsquid, PC Dreams runs on very little RAM to get virtually infinite layers for a frame and a canvas size for 1M by 1M in pixels. Toonsquid is limited in layers and only does 4K in pixels depending on the amount of RAM you got it can do more.

I was seriously looking forward to Jazza to make this video as I am almost 4 or 5 year old subscriber who watches all his videos and I once started using Adobe Flash by being inspired by Jazza’s feature film. But then i had to give up on adobe since it was not portable on my ipad. Ever since i have started using Procreate dreams i find following things as a charm:
    1. Audio sync
    2. Grouping made easy compared to animation feature in Procreate
    3. Auto tweening without loosing pixels in my art
I really really want Procreate dreams to include lasso and select tool. Yes i have requested this on their website chat thread. 😊

sure the ui confuses the heck out of me but not being able to move sections of my drawings how i wanted to (a very very common thing for me) was so frustrating that i went back to making my animatic in regular procreate instead 😅
