This lesson is also useful for those planning on taking the IELTS exam or any other exam where they give you some figures and percentages that you will need to understand and describe. We will focus on the topic of literacy to talk about how many people in the world are able to read and write. Is there anyone telling me why the lesson used "are" with the "a large percentage of population are"? Please.
It's one of those 'grey areas' in English grammar -- the population refers to lots of people, as a collective term. We would also say 'the police are investigating ...', 'the government are deciding ...'.

Nice to see you again in your videos, it's been a while since I saw you, i missed your lessons. By the way, where is this calm and melodic accent from? Glad to hear you again, teacher.
Gill has an accent from the north/middle of England originally, perhaps Nottingham or Yorkshire/Lancashire, but she said in another video that she has lived in London for many years so much of her northern accent has been replaced by "home counties" pronunciation.

That An old english person speaks english is more clean than â young one. I think an old one speaks english slowly.
