Yeah pretty much the most important information is towards the end. Falling. You're going to do that. A lot. You can practice falling though, so make sure you're comfortable with that. For the longest time, i try not to fall and so my body is always stiff and I'm always fighting against falling. Then i just start falling off my board on purpose at low speeds so I'm comfortable with it and it doesn't scare me anymore. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you can think right when you start to lose control and hitting the ground. You'll be able to decide how to fall and that's the key. Now I'm extremely loose and relax and it's improved my skating a lot because I'm no longer scared and i already expect to fall haha
if you want take a longboard or a surfskate, or just focus in mastering direction changing with the front wheels up, pumping, and dropping and you are good to have a smooth section at almost any common skatepark (Y)
The "falling" part at the end really helped me a lot, I think I had a mental block where I thought it was unacceptable to fall, which made me really hesitant with the board. After I heard what you said, I totally became more comfortable. Thanks Justin!! :)
@@Commander_Cat I'm on the exact same boat. Ive already fallen a couple times and i STILL can't seem to get the fear out of my system enough to get the ollie down
I just started skating today I practiced for about an hour and a half I'm proud of myself I was scared to even get on it at the start and by the time I left I could push and get into the right stance
Loser Leo holy shit I didn’t even know people liked my comment or replied to it, it never notified me 😂 Well for after 10 months I didn’t get to ride as much as I would of liked to, but I did get way better than when I first started I can actually ride it instead of falling off a lot or being to nervous to turn, I can actually go for a while riding it around.
"Skaters expect to fail" , I like that , you can transfer that philosophy to a lot of areas in life - too many people won't try because they are frightened to fail. You can learn a lot from a skaters mentality , pick yourself up and try it again and again and again .
This is another reason why I love skateboarding. It is teaching me how to accept failure as another way to learn and continue having fun and moving forward. Most of my life I was afraid of failing which caused a lot of issues in my personal life. I have fallen many times while riding and learning new tricks, but I have also learned how to fall correctly so as not to break sensitive body parts. Man I love skateboarding. It is also teaching me a lot about myself and how to be patient even more.
I’m hoping I come back to this comment in a few years when I’m actually decent Update: because of covid I got a lot of time off school and have got a lot of practice in. Thanks for this video! I've been doing lots of learning recently, and this will definitely help me in my progression. :) I just got my first board a couple of days ago, and I've already become pretty comfortable riding. *Tips for those struggling to feel comfortable:* Practice falling. I did this by riding across my driveway, then purposefully falling into the grass once my front wheels went off the driveway. If you practice the proper techniques for falling (look up videos on it), then it will make you feel more confident while riding. Also, make sure to just practice balancing, especially on your front foot. When you push to gain speed, you're balancing on your front foot, so practicing balancing just on your front foot will help you feel more comfortable when pushing. :)
@@mooosje It's not bad! I'm still not _100%_ comfortable riding my skateboard, but that's only due to the fact that I haven't been spending enough time on it. Right now, I'm able to do a small ollie while staying still, which is pretty cool! :)

My brother has had this problem for a while. It could be your board or foot position. Push your board forward by itself and if it's swerving to one side just sorta smush the board to the side you want it to go. Very caveman like but you can usually level out your board. If the issue is you're foot position it's most likely your front foot not being straight forward while pushing. You may be angling to far left or right

I’m a 21yr old girl and I’ve been wanting to skate for a little while now but I know that I’m kinda old to start and I don’t know any other girls who skate. However, I watched the movie Mid 90s, and a couple “how to skate” & “beginner skating” videos so I thought I knew what to do. As soon as I bought my board and fell kinda hard within seconds of stepping my foot onto it, I quickly realized I did not. I’ve just spent the last two days still trying to get the hang of simply pushing. Infact, even just introducing my back foot to the board to then transition into riding stance is still pretty difficult for me. I’ve fallen three times now and every time I felt like a failure. I really appreciate your comment! I just wanted to add that you're definitely not too old to start and what you're going through happens to everyone at first (most people underestimate the time commitment it takes to acquire balance on a skateboard for the first time), but a week or two from now you will be GOOD, just don't quit (it's worth the journey!!!)

About whe you said " this wont give you many advantages expept for a few style points" ( well its close enough) STYLE POINTS ARE EVRYTHING ! BRUH. Ut other than that minor mistake, good work, I found this channel yesterday, and yesterday me and my freind got back into Skateboarding, well, I havnt skatboarded
Ummmm, yeah, may have pressed the sent button be accident.... anyways were was I..... Oh yes ! I havnt skateboarded for a while, you know, since like 2010 at least, and my freind just got a skatboared so when I found you, ( and got told that pushing mongo is BAD) I watched a few of your vids and you earned yourself a sub buddy =)
Reece Burns Hahaha 'style points are everything'; I like that. Glad you got in touch with me man, I can always use some good positive energy! And I hope the anti-mongo campaign is going well for you haha.
Justin Lauria lol, me too, I just hope I get used to the anti-mongo style. Oh and thanks for replying, alot of youtubers dont do that. Oh and you look alot like my cousin, allthough we live in britan and im pretty sure that was in MURICA somewere, we dont have fancy concreate outdoor skateboard parks ocer here...
I'm hopefully gonna get my skateboard in a couple weeks and although I have been wanting to start to learn for around a year and trying my friends cruiser I have no clue what to do. I'm definitely gonna rewatch this to help me learn
I can never get my balance right, i put the right foot at the front of the board and push with the left foot. For some reason i cant keep my balance even when the right foot is in the middle of the board and is also straight. Any help?
I would say try some strength/balance training exercises for 5-10 days. You can do it just trying to stand on one foot for a minute at a time, 3x per foot per day, and once that feels easy, you can try it with your eyes closed, standing on a pillow, or even standing on your skateboard with it on top of carpet. That should get you squared away in no time!
Bryan Narciso There are some people that teach that you'll prefer to skate with your strongest leg in the back, but I think you kind of have to decide for yourself which one feels more comfortable. I have a video on that topic if you want to check it out: Goofy or Regular? How to Determine Your Stance on a Skateboard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- th-cam.com/video/-n3_CKHLEsY/w-d-xo.html
Jay Ayers lol, seriously though that vert wall I was standing on top of looks like death to me, but I've seen people drop in on it so I know it's possible. Maybe one day... I hope your skateboarding goes well for you man. Don't try to do too much too quickly. If you get hurt really bad right at the start you might feel like quitting, but it's so much fun, I wouldn't want you to miss out.
I saw a video where the guy said to not point your foot totally straight when you push. Leave one bolt uncovered so your foot is at an angle. I will have to try these ideas thanks
Thank you so much for that last part. So I've been skating for a couple days now and it's been really fun. I'm pushing and turning decently, and can tictac surprisingly well. Just took my first two falls today though, but I was surprised by how well it went even though I fell pretty hard lol.
Welcome back! I took about a 20yr gap myself and just got back into this year. Great tutorial but I disagree on the mongo. If you point your back foot straight forward then you will be fine. Pushing mongo is not ideal if you have a short setup for a trick. Otherwise if you can learn to do it smoothly then your fine. Just make sure you have fun either way!
@@SkatingwithAaron I used to push smoothly (in my head, at least), but the normal pushing is getting okay too, I guess. Been getting a bit frustrated though. I fell the couple last times I've practiced and now I'm kind of afraid. Bought safety equipment and gonna wait till it arrives to get back on the street. Anyway, 20 year gap, that's a long time. Hope it's like riding a bike. Either way, feel like 2020 was the perfect year for getting back
@@marianaluna6184 Yes I’m finding it is like a riding a bike. A little choppy at first but getting much better over the last 6-7months. And definitely take it slow. There’s no rush so wait for the safety gear and start trying again. Just make sure you’re completely comfortable standing on the board not rolling and lean around. Try putting a little pressure on the tail and nose just lifting up the other end an inch or so. Doing this without moving will help improve your balance and your pushing once you start trying again! Skating is so much fun once you’re more comfortable on your board!
@@SkatingwithAaron Exactly, I'm gonna start those balance exercises this week in my backyard, which is flat. I feel I'm not ready for the street just yet :/ I'm glad you're doing fine! Wow, 6~7 months, keep it up!
@@marianaluna6184 That’s great! You got this! Keep me posted on how it’s coming along and if you get stuck on anything! I love teaching others so I’m usually pretty quick to respond.
Thanks for this video! I see on a forum you posted on that you do requests. I am 52 years old. I have been trying to learn for about a year. I never skateboarded before or did any sports. I am having problems trying to stand on a stationary board. I learned to push using a different method. I don't think I could have learned it this way. (Involves putting one foot on the board and using one foot to walk on the ground.) I can push fine. I have just started to be able to put both feet on the board. Good tip about not having to turn your foot when you are new. I tried to do that and my foot was of course stuck on the grip tape. I wasn't really going far enough to need to.. just going back and forth in a garage. I can stand on a stationary board on carpet. I can do things like kick turns on the carpet. But I am very unstable when trying to get on a board and stay in one place on cement. The reason I waited so long to try to put both feet on was because I was so unstable trying to get on the board with both feet. I thought if I couldn't do that, then I wouldn't be able to ride either. But I was wrong. I have now ridden for short distances but still can't stand on a stationary board.
Started skating today and I could just not keep a straight line skating and I was just too scared to put my back foot on the board. This helped so much thanks x

skaters falling down kinda increased my confidence to try tricks more, like i know falling will happen and its okay to fall, but seeing others fall made me think "dang thats where they came from too"
I’ve been skating mongo for a week now and wondered why my hell hurts so much now i know Thank you sooo much!!!
yo, your videos are the best. it's visually really well done explaining. congrats to that.
Yo, your tip for kickturns helped me out a lot. Moving the shoulders first def helped my backside kickturns.

NSI Skateboarding [Justin Lauria] hey i just want to let you know how do you do it😳😱
I have had my skateboard for a couple of days and I'm bad. After watching this video I've started to get the hang of it. Thanks for all the information bro thanks :)
JUST STARTED AND I CANT PUSH OF ITS SO HARD HELP
It's been 3 weeks, how are you doing now? :)
it’s been a month now how are u
Add a week to that, how are you now?
It's been two months now, how are you now?
i’m having the exact same problem, if any skater sees this, do you know how i can make it easier? i fall every time i try to push off. i can only push once :/
I just bought a board about a week ago. I used to skateboard when I was a kid (about 18 years ago) and wanted to pick it back up. Videos like yours are incredibly useful. Thanks!
Really glad to hear that! and thanks for dropping me a comment, I really like reading feedback from everybody 🙂
lol Thank you eben. And don't worry you can correct your "mango" pushing over the course of a couple days if you just put a little effort into it
About whe you said " this wont give you many advantages expept for a few style points" ( well its close enough) STYLE POINTS ARE EVRYTHING !
Justin Lauria this has helped me alot thanks
Thanks so much for this video now I can skate in a straight line without falling off the board!
If you think skate boarding is easy skip this video- Skate trainers
Skateboarding is hard
@@NeverStopImprovingSB okay ty, i will just keep practicing riding my skateboard
You have the best videos, my friend. You do such a great job explaining for beginners like me. Cheers!
I really really appreciate that Matt!
Great this will heir me when I get one btw did anyone see a guy in a red shirt waving at the camera at 3:56 😂😂😂
Heidy Paniagua Haha I was waiting for someone to finally notice that kid. He's so gangster...
This is the most useful begineer video i saw so far :)
Bryan Narciso There are some people that teach that you'll prefer to skate with your strongest leg in the back, but I think you kind of have to decide for yourself which one feels more comfortable. I have a video on that topic if you want to check it out:

Haha sounds like me. Love it! Great video. Learning skating for the first time. Will try these.
Leaning heel-side to turn is harder for me, and probably many more people
I just got my skate board today and this help so much Thank you!!
youve probbaly gotten asked this before but how do i pivot my front foot parallel to my bolts without falling on my ass
Need help with this too.. foot feels stuck to grip tape
you have to push your toes down then swivel
I saw a video where the guy said to not point your foot totally straight when you push. Leave one bolt uncovered so your foot is at an angle. I will have to try these ideas thanks
Thank you for showing me these skills. I barely got a skateboard so this video helped me a lot. Once again thank you so much for making this video.
Me trying to learn how to stop
*reads channel name*
Also me: -_-
Hahaha this one got me good 😂😂😂

thank you for helping all us who are getting into skateboarding
It is an amazing sport to get into! We're glad to have you 🤙
2018 anyone
No 2020
Thanks for the advice! Tightening the trucks helped me a lot!
I can’t turn while pushing regular, I literally push mongo because it allows me to steer easily
Allacates that’s stupid, you’ll have to change it
Just stumbled across this video and I’ve never been happier to find a video. This is incredibly helpful thank you SO much.
What a nice message to receive on my video. Thank YOU so much! Keep up the good work 👊
thank you justin my son is ride so better
Thanks bro. Best beginner video I've watched. I'm feeling confident.
My first fall as some trying this pretty small ramp and slamming my ass on the floor going backwards. Still trying to learn to ride with confidence
Amazing, high quality video series. Thank you for putting in the time to make these
Thanks again skating is awsum,it so good to get started right, bad habit ain't no good, break. Them early by do it right first....piece
Thank you so much for that last part. So I've been skating for a couple days now and it's been really fun. I'm pushing and turning decently, and can tictac surprisingly well. Just took my first two falls today though, but I was surprised by how well it went even though I fell pretty hard lol.
Thanks for the video I'm getting my board in two days so it was really helpful
Thx today was my first skate session and your vid helped me alot
Re-started today after a few years of retirement and a few of pushing mongo. I'mma learn right this time
Welcome back!
I feel I'm not ready for the street just yet :/
I'm glad you're doing fine! Wow, 6~7 months, keep it up!
@@marianaluna6184 That’s great! You got this! Keep me posted on how it’s coming along and if you get stuck on anything! I love teaching others so I’m usually pretty quick to respond.
Very helpful ...
Thanks a lot 😊...
My training is better and better from beginning after watching this video..thanks again
I love relearning the basics.
I'm glad I found your videos. I just started skating again after like a year and a half. And needless to say I'm rusty
You'll be as good a you used to be in no time 👊
Started skating today and I could just not keep a straight line skating and I was just too scared to put my back foot on the board. This helped so much thanks x
Great job! Very informative and well explained. Thanks!
dude- thank you so much! i have been strugging like riding it.Going straight since my foot wasnt in the right place.Next step time to learn tricks! i learned how to do an ollie tho
