  • This is my complete tutorial of how to skate for adults. Its important because adults have different circumstances when learning and this video deals with all the things that will make learning a little safer. It took me over a month to put this together and its over twenty minutes long so buckle up and hang on.

Where i live,Malmö sweden,we have loads of really good skateparks, lots of the architecture being built is skater friendly, old skaters are now calling the shots in the city when it comes to building stuff.
We have a high school (16-19 year olds) which has skateboarding on the schedule.
Lots of older people skatibg here,im 50,and i never stopped just because we have such a good skate community, producing world class skaters etc.
Last but not least, ill say 30+% is girls/women.
Indoor/outdoor parks have girls/women skating wirh other girls, certain hours no boys allowed etc.
Good luck and keep on keeping on

So I got my cruiser board (after 15 years of nothing) and it was an awesome feeling to stand on a board again. It's funny, I can't find beginner skateboard videos aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. They all seem to be aimed at like 5 year olds or adults. 8- 12 year olds have a much different attitude and attention span. They don't listen as well and it takes special little exercises for them to work on. Any direction on good instructional videos aimed at how to teach 8 to 12 year olds would be appreciated.

“Anyone who skates has to not care what other people think” This is great advice. I’m a new skater in my 30s and it felt awkward to be my age skating around the neighborhood like an infant trying to learn to walk. Eventually I stopped caring and didn’t let it kill the vibe.

Today I got this video mentioned in my feed. I am a woman of 58 and started skateboarding for the first time of my life in 2019, at 57. Indeed there are little to no tutorials catered for older grown ups who are starting with this sport. I really like how you cover all the things we will encouter, sooner or later.
I must say I get a lot of positive feedback from young kids to older skateboarders when I am in a skatepark. Skatelessons are helping me a lot too and I love the skatevibe during those evenings, full of adults who are learning to skateboard.
It is great sport, enabling me to unwind like no other sport has ever done.

haha oh no lol. hey man yeah my son showed me how he does speed bumps , he lifts the front wheel going over them fast and jumps as the back wheel hits it and the back of the board bounces off the bump and he lands and keeps moving. I dont have the guts to try that but the "step down take weight off board foot" technique should help. another thing I dont like are the yellow bumpy things at every crosswalk, they will throw you off if you hit them too fast.

i gotta say, as someone who clicked on this video out of curiosity mostly because i’m a 30yr old who has been skating since i was 10, the part about skate culture and skate parks being very non judgemental and especially not bothering women who are skating or learning to skate is very true in my experience. i have very often seen women or younger girls learning to skate at my local parks and the only thing i have ever heard any of the guys who are regulars there say to them is something along the lines of “you should turn your head to follow your body when you try that” or “it helps if you keep your shoulders directly above your knees”. just useful advice they would give to anyone. skaters are very inclusive for the most part (there’s always some bad eggs, they get corrected quickly by everyone else though) and as long as you are putting in the effort and seriously trying to learn to skate and not just taking pictures at the park without actually skating, no one will say anything except encouraging or helpful words. skate culture is very unique in that there are very few gatekeepy types/attitudes. we want everyone to experience the joy of skating, and everyone is welcome to learn. the people who are experienced skaters are happy to pass on their knowledge and they all recognize that at one point they were in the exact same situation as the person learning and it brings them back to how amazing it felt when they landed their first kickflip or finally committed to a drop in for the first time. we want everyone to experience the joy we felt learning to skate and because of that, will never laugh at someone learning, and will always offer help if requested. we also recognize that it’s a very male dominated culture and in order to branch out from that we have to not be creepy weirdos to every woman at the park, so we just leave it alone, and treat women/girls at the skatepark the same as we would anyone else.
never be afraid to go to your local park.
i know it can seem intimidating but just be genuine. the only people skaters can’t stand are people attempting to use skate culture for aesthetic reasons without respecting the culture/people that created those aesthetic choices.
skateboarding was invented by weirdo outcasts, to connect with other weirdo outcasts, and as a result, we never want to oust people from the scene without an extremely good reason.

After a couple of seshs which I thoroughly enjoyed, I'm progressing exponentially and I love it! Also, I teach guitar and tell all my students that it does not matter when you start, (as a lot of people think they would have achieved more if they had started fresh out of nappies!) all that matters is your desire and drive to do it and you will achieve it. I'm going to prove this by becoming a competent skater, even though I have started in my fifties.

This is AMAZING! This is exactly what I needed. I'm trying to learn to skate and I'm 29 and I'm not here to do cool tricks or anything, I just want to cruise. Thank you so much for this

      @tee_nanners 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Alex it's okay! I'm much better, I still don't do tricks yet but I've been more open to trying! I can travel very swiftly around town without losing much stamina. Overall I sense I'm better than when I started but I've not mastered any tricks yet!

Thank you. I like how you emphasise safety and how you make it an accessible means of transport that doesn't have to kill you. I'm 47 and want to get back into this hobby. The last time I was on a skateboard I was 14 years old.

This was so good dude. I’ve been skating for 25 years now and I still watched this whole video because it was so damn enjoyable! Cheers to everyone getting into skating later in their lives. It’s a blast! 🤘🏼

This is so great. I have been skateboarding since I was 5 and now I'm 40 and still going strong. I've done it all from handrails to half pipes to bowls and all the flip tricks and grinds. Everything he says here is bang-on, and he's got a great style of skateboarding. When I skate now, I skate a lot like he does.

What an awesome video. Such great advice, delivered with such amazing poise.
As a 47 year old making his way back to skating after... 35 years, I really appreciate the calmness and attention to detail.
    Great, great stuff.

This was exactly the video I needed to see! I didn't know I needed this but getting to see a guy roughly my age (I assume) and with a really similar build to me talk about how this is something I can do and the way you calmly demonstrate all of the skills I want to master, just really made me feel positive and hopeful. Thanks for making this man. Excited to add skating to my city commute repertoire.

Great video, thank you! I've started longboard just 2 weeks ago. Most tutorials are from short skinny men, and it's definitely inspiring to see a big dude (about my size) riding the board and giving advices.

I’m a 36 year old dad of 3 and I bought a longboard to get out and be more active as an alternative to jogging. I’ve been getting out every day and boarding. My gf ordered herself and her daughters one and my oldest bought himself one. Can’t wait to get out and skate!

This is hands down the best newbie instructional video on YT! Well done. Especially the advice that it doesn't really matter what kind of board you learn on. The car analogy is a good one. So many people (like me, 53) get hung up on the gear when they should just get on with it! Well done!

Update! I Bought a board called a pantheon trip and all the pads. I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to stand up on it but to my amazement I can just about. 53 yrs old, a metal hip and not very sporty. I an taking it slowly day by day at lunchtimes at work and it's really great fun! I wish I'd tried to do it for longer than 5 mins 40 years ago. Give it a try if you can it I'd so much fun :^)
