    This shows how popular Waldner is and it was a great farewell. Thank you for all nice matches in TV, the great finals versus China in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Again thank you J-O.

    Thank you, Waldner! You give me much wonderful memories to play against almost all top players for more than 20 years. Without you, international table tennis tournaments have been absolutely dominated by Chinese players.

      Waldner .. God . He could have beaten him even at his age .. he don't care .. he has a go for fun .Jan ove was why I started playing .. love watching him

      Waldner style of play was/is unique. I doubt there will ever be another player like him.

      Yes. it's unique but unfortunately TT today is a lot more powerful and faster (even when they change the rules: eg ball size, to slow it down), and so his style won't be successful. You've got to be an outright fast attacker to win. Similar in Tennis - gone are the days of Serve-Volley-ers like McEnroe and Edberg to win. You've got to be strong baseline drivers to win these days.

    With new bigger plastic ball, waldner service is not a threat anymore.

    Waldner was actually happy for losing the last match, if he had won, he would have played another year and he sort of felt like it should end now.

      +Mohammed Marei its his last official match with a team and in official competition. he will stop practicing and only play in ittf legends and exhibition tournaments

      Don´t worry, I´m sure he won´t stop practicing. And I´m looking forward to see him in the ittf legends. Let´s say against Saive (a true classic constellation), Persson or Kreanga etc. That will be awesome. I´m absolutely sure.

    just goes to show how much of a legend you have to be to blatantly get away with illegal serves, anyone else they would have got many warnings. love seeing him playing still like this though, much enjoyed the game

      Bluestar A1 that is what he using now. I'm.pretty sure he had tenergy 05 on one side here and would say m1 the other rubber.

      Last official match on professional level. Of course he may return to the plate for show events and AFAIK he continues playing in a lower German League.

      I thought he retired in 2005 or 2006. I know he was playing after that but not competitively. Does this mean he has stopped completely? I mean will he ever pick up a bat again?

      why is it a shame? He was the best, he did not really train anymore cause he did not have to proof anything.. its amazing to see him play, never a shame

      @@Witty91 To watch the greatest man ever to hold a table tennis bat struggle at basic table tennis is a shame...a man who could make the ball sing and dance at will, now struggle to put 2 balls in a row on the table is hard to watch
