That line, "how wonderful life is while you're in the world" gets more and more precious as time goes by. It brings to mind those who are no longer with us and those who are.
This was actually Elton's first big hit that really launched him to stardom
Bernie Taupin is the poetic genius. Elton is piano showman genius. And to the other comments below - Taupin writes the lyrics first, then Elton writes the music.
I think like a candle in the wind was opposite, Elton had the music first in that one.
I'm a grown ass man of 56 years....and it always brings me to tears
I'm 78 and it still tears me up ❤
The most amazing part of his partnership with Bernie Taupin was Bernie would write a song and Elton John would write the music. It is truly amazing the way they worked together!
Elton John‘s melodies and music and Bernie’s songs with those lyrics are crazy good
And Elton wrote the music for “The Lion King” and Sir TIM RICE (former partner with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber) wrote the music. And they won the OSCAR.
Taupin & Elton in the 70s were what Lennon& McCartney were in the 60s
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 Did you mean to say Tim Rice wrote the lyrics?
*The Greatest Discovery*
Elton John
For your new born baby. 💕
Bernie Taupin is the poet and Elton is the maestro. Their symbiotic creative relationship has shaped modern music. Wonderful 50+ year rabbit hole in which to get lost.
My beautiful wife of 20 yrs was born in Alcapulco and we met during our freshman year of college. She was on the soccer team and I played baseball. We hit it off from the first time we met and began dating. After a month of dating, I played this song for her, she had never heard of Elton John, and I said this is how I feel about you. After the first verse, she was in tears but listened the whole way through. When it ended, she looked at me, tears flowing and said I Love You with all my heart. We got engaged and married our junior year. 20 yrs and 4 beautiful children later, we still consider this "Our Song".
Now that’s a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing it.
Beautiful story... ♡♡♡♡♡
I love this! The power of amazing music!! ❤️
COOL MEMORY!
Amazing love story!
Thanks for sharing the story....of your family and your greatest love(s) ❤
This is the song that put him on the map. I have seen him multiple times in concert. He thanks the USA for putting him on the charts. This came out in late 1970. He collaborated on all his songs with Bernie Taupin. Bernie is the poet, Elton put his words to music. Elton is classically trained. He's amazing.
This is one of the GREATEST songs of Elton John!!!
This song was written in 30 minutes. Bernie gave Elton some lyrics at breakfast at Elton's mother's house - and Elton got up - went to the piano - and half an hour later they hd their first big hit that went #1.
I've never understood this obsession with creative speed. Is creativity a speed contest? The faster, the better? Is this song fundamentally better as a 30-minute composition than if it had taken 30 hours? Is a speedy artist to be respected more than an artist who grinds it out? John Denver wrote Annie's Song in 10.5 minutes on a ski lift, all by himself. If speed is how we value creativity, then Annie's Song is magnitudes better than Your Song, and/or John Denver is magnitudes better than Elton John and Bernie Taupin combined. OR. Maybe speed is irrelevant to the value of the work, nor does any particular anecdote about how much/little time one work took give us a comprehensive assessment of the artist.
So why do these "created in 84 seconds!!!!! while hammering nails!!!!! in a hailstorm!!!!! while the baby was screaming!!!!!" items get repeated endlessly as THE most noteworthy thing about a work? My personal observation about artists is that I'm not aware of a single one who was purely a speeder or a grinder. Each work tends to have its own pace. So every artist with a fair number of works under their belt has almost certainly been through both hills and valleys -- creations that came almost instantly, as if from on high; while others had to be sweated for, wrestled with, for days, weeks, months or even years.
It's the artists who have struggled greatly and expended insane amounts of effort over certain works, who are able to most appreciate the creations that appear swiftly, fully formed, in their heads. Maybe that's why these "created in 84 seconds" stories exist? Because perhaps a speedy work is a rarity and a gift. A lightning strike of the muse.
@@jannasomewhere2889 i never believe those stories anyway, probably took them 6 months lol
Bernie wrote the lyrics before he met Elton
It’s sort of like when the spirit moves someone creatively they are super motivated & excited! @@jannasomewhere2889
@@jannasomewhere2889 No, Bernie says Elton doesn't have the patience to take more than about twenty minutes to compose. Of course a lot of the music is added in the studio by the musicians themselves, but he generally writes the tunes in just a few minutes. On the program "Inside the Actors Studio" Elton was given poems and he showed how he could come up with a melody for just about anything in just a few minutes. Someone even game him an instruction manual to a refrigerator and he came up with a tune with the instructions in it and sang it to the audience.
According to Billboard Magazine, Elton John is the most successful solo artist in music history😮😊Your Song was Elton's first Top 10 single.
Someone Saved my Life Tonight, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Bennie and the Jets, Pinball Wizard, Levon, Funeral for a Friend, Grey Seal, Rocket Man, In Neon, I Guess that's why they call it the Blues, so many stops down the rabbit hole that is Elton John's music. He's a genius!
Pinball Wizard is a song by THE WHO.
@@hk45c62 Agree! Elton performed P. wizard in the movie, "TOMMY" the rock opera by The Who.
@@hk45c62 Yes, should have clarified Elton's version of Pinball Wizard 😊
and Roy Rogers.
Candle in the Wind, Island Girl, Tiny Dancer.
Elton wrote the music to The Lion King .. Tim Rice wrote the lyrics .. Can You Feel The Love Tonight won the oscar for best original song.
Elton was a child prodigy. He was given a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London when he was 11 years old. Elton had top 40 songs for thirty years in a row. Elton wrote the music and his partner Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics.
I use to sing this song to my baby daughter. I took her to his final tour, floor seats, ($1200.00) and I broke down when he played this. In fact the whole concert was one of the best ever. He is a professional!
My husband is such a fan. In his final tour, he got early tickets. Took my daughter. We don’t have much, but he needed to go. Could touch the stage. 6:07
Yes and he had just had his cancer operation! Amazing
Yes! Me too. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour, 2019. We had floor seats too, he played for 3 hours. Most expensive tickets ever, but worth it!
@@user-calm_salty I didn't get to see him until 2021. First COVID shutdown hit the tour, then he got sick. Dame concert in the end though
@@Karen_in_Canada I only know that it was 2019 'cause that's what the t-shirt(60$) says, Jan15th 2019! 😅 I couldn't remember what year but I remember the price of the shirt! 😆😅😂
Their first and greatest hits. Bernie's words (poetry) and Elton's music talent were so amazing together. Gay empathy and open vulnerability changed music forever.
Bernie Taupin's name should be in all the videos, right next to Elton's. He doesn't get all the credit he deserves. What an amazing writer!!
Bernie wrote the words, which are as important as the music.
@@marianclough8577 exactly. In this song, I love the music and the voice, but the lyrics are what make me emotional every time.
I’ve been seeing Elton John in concert since the early 70’s. My wife and I were married in 1982, this was our wedding song!
It's a love song dedicated to love itself. That's why it's universal.
Thank you! I was 13 when this song came out and it was my favorite. My brother really liked " DANIEL".
"Top of the Pops" is a British television show featuring music. It's been on the air since 1964.
Real music from real musicians who don't need auto-tune, they write thier own music and play thier own instruments, not like todays posers. There are a few good ones today, but in general they don't have a clue what it takes to be a real musician/music artist.
Bernie Taupin was the writer on most if not all his songs - Bernie the Lyrics Elton the music and vocals - I think one of the most iconic partnerships that lasted almost 50 years - I listened to him since the 70's to now - always loved him - My adult children bought me tickets to his final world tour in Australia in a country town just before Covid shut it down - I was overwhelmed - at 70 he sang and played as well as in his youth.
Elton is one of my favorite artists. I’ve seen him in concert twice. The 1st time, I was nearly on the top row, in the back, couldn’t see a thing and I loved it! The 2nd time,y husband won front row tickets off the radio; I could see every note his fingers played on the piano, I got his autograph, it was like being in a dream, and I loved it! ♥️
***CANDLE IN THE WIND***, ***GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD***, ***DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME***, ***DON'T GO BREAKIN' MY HEART***, ***TINY DANCER***, ***SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALL RIGHT FOR FIGHTIN*** and ***THE BITCH IS BACK*** He is a mega artist that plays for presidents and royalty and he's knighted "Sir" by the Queen...ya have to hear his biggest hits, ha can't be missed.
AND......... ROCKET MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BENNY AND THE JETS.....
My personal favorite!@@jamesbondbond8388
Goodbye yellow brick road is fire 🔥
Let's not forget Bernie Taupin who wrote ALL of the lyrics for the early Elton songs. Elton is musical genius but not a lyricist.
Cool fact. Bernie Taupin has given him lyrics for a whole album, and Elton wrote the music to it all in an hour. He's a musical genius.
Bernie Taupin. 🎉lyricist
Elton musical composer vocalist
~ a match made in heaven , imo
Bernie Taupin writes the words. Elton adds the music. Never in the same room. Mindblowing.

My favorite song of Sir Elton John is
🎶🎵Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding🎵🎶
>> Original sound track
He won academy award for the Lion King. This song is on his first album.
Yes! Composed is the word!❤
I was in tears listening, haven’t heard this song in many years. My Dad loved Elton John amongst so many other artists, music was always playing in our home. I heard this song just prior to him passing, we knew he didn’t have long with cancer. The words “how wonderful life is while you’re in the world” I associate that especially with my Dad, it’s his song to me 🙏
This song was written by Bernie Taupin, who is Elton's primary musical partner. The two have been writing songs for decades now. Bernie writes the lyrics, Elton puts the music to it. This song was written in the late 60's when Taupin was just 17. No one is sure if he wrote it for someone or not. Bernie won't say. Bernie has said that the love is viewed from a point of innocence & naivety. Classic song!
Howdy... I am 45f and Elton John was the first concert I went to back in the day :) Blessed!
Elton John is such a DEEP rabbit hole. Great song!
My personal favs: 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word', 'I guess that's why they call it the blues', 'Don't let the sun go down on me', 'Honkey cat', 'Saturday night's alright (for fighting)', 'I'm still standing', and 'candle in the wind'. I loved this reaction, I would definitely love to see more reactions to Sir Elton!
All songs are composed by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice. All scores are composed by Hans Zimmer
Elton John was writing partners with Bernie Taupin. They had a very unusual way of writing songs. Bernie wrote lyrics, presented them to Elton, who was inspired to write the music and vocal melodies. Most all songs are written as a musical piece, then lyrics and melodies are added.
He was great friends with Princess Diana & wrote a beautiful tribute song to her after her death. Candle 🕯️ in the wind. 🥲🙏💔❤️✌️🤙
His original version was about Marilyn Monroe. Much later, he changed the lyrics to be about Diana.
Saw Sir Elton John at Gillette Stadium (home of the Patriots) on July 4th 1976. He came on stage on top of his piano dressed as the Statue of Liberty. During Pinball Wizard there were fireworks in the shape of a hand holding a ball. I waited every song until he sang Daniel. I was determined not to leave until he did. ❤❤ thankfully he did perform it. Most amazing concert ever, and in my 67 I've seen over 40 bands including Queen, Boston, all the way to Elvis.
one of the best brands ever. 100s of killer songs. Thanks
I am a huge Elton John fan.Your Song is my favorite!!! I have been a fan for years. My sister who I lost in 2017 was a fanatic fan. Every t I he an Elton John song I think about her. I get v .
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics of the majority of their songs and Elton wrote the music... Captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy is my most favorite album, not very well known by most. Curtains is a good song to react to 😊
"Wise men say, it looks like rain today; it crackled on the speakers and trickled down the sleepy subway train.
I was in junior high school which is called middle school when this song came out. I’m a 63 year old grandmother now
Bernie Taupin was 17 when he wrote these lyrics and all of Eltons lyrics
He didn't write the lyrics to all of Elton John's songs. 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' is one example.
@@lumina1104 Taupin wrote all of Elton's lyrics through most of the 1970s. Then they decided to go separate ways. "A Single Man" is the first album Elton did without Taupin, and there's some good stuff on there, but it's different.
@@ruthlafler5622 No Bernie is still working with Elton to this day. They did take a few breaks through the years. They started in 1967, they had no money Elton was living with his mom and stepdad and Bernie moved from north England they hung out writing songs got a band together recorded the music, Elton writes the music to Bernie's lyrics. Once Elton made it Bernie moved to the U.S. and became an American in the 70s. He lives in California with his wife and kids.
@jdenino6022 didn't mean to imply they never worked again. But they went from working together exclusively to not working together at all, before they eventually started working together and with other people.
@@ruthlafler5622 Elton wrote in his book that he felt jealous when Bernie started working with other people like Alice Cooper...and Elton John's music wasn't as good till he had a few eighties hits. (I'm no expert on their careers). I get sidetracked a lot by other bands music all the time!
Bernie Taupin deserves much of the credit that Elton has had. The two, were one of the best song-writing and visual artists in all of rock.
Elton John, nobody comes close for me. My hero for sure. He's done so much, not just music. Bernie Taupin , his lyricist also no one close ❤❤❤❤❤
Elton John writes the music, but Bernie Taupin wrote all the lyrics, not just this song, but all of them, to go with the music. They were always a partnership. Check out Tiny Dancer some time, it's exquisite.
Love Elton he is magical ❤
Saw him back in the 90s, after the Lion King came out, and it is still one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
Sir Elton John is a huge rabbit hole to dive into. Arguably, his most acclaimed music spans most of the 1970s. But he had a huge career comeback in the 1980s with hits including "I'm Still Standing" (great 80s video!). While he has written songs in the past, his songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is one of the most successful in history. I'm not kidding.
Elton John is music royalty in the UK. He played at Princess Diana's funeral on September 6, 1997.
Elton’s song “Friends” was our class song back in ‘75 and the words still get to me!
This was Princess Diana's favorite Elton John song. They were great friends!!!❤❤❤
Bro! Hook me up. I’m about to turn 70. My GOAT, Jimmy Buffett died recently. One of my favorite songs oh his is Everybody’s Got a Cousin in Miami! Kinda rap for my generation. Guarantee! You’ll love it!
Cheeseburger in Paradise was Jimmy Buffet's magnum opus, IMO. I freaking love that song.
It's just...beautiful ❤
...soothing and relevant. 😊
His duet with George Michael is outstanding.. don’t let the sun go down on me ❤
I remember when this song came out and it was all over the radio. I absolutely love it. A friend of mine, she was about 10 years old, dedicated it to her mama on Mother's Day.
This song brings back so many memories of special people. It's an extremely simple song but one of his most famous. Elton and his writing partner (entire career!!), Bernie Taupin, have the most bizarre system of writing. Bernie, a poet, writes the lyrics first, and then Elton takes the lyrics and sets them to music. They work separately, not together. It's one of the most successful, unusual, and enduring musical collaborations!!
My favorite Elton song. He played it live for us during a break when we were filming the t.v. show "Nashville."
I've seen him 3 times in concert, he is AMAZING!
He is sir Elton John a national treasure and royal confidant 🇬🇧 he sang at his great friend’s funeral, Princess Diana and did a duo with Eminem. He then called him daily when Eminem was coming off drugs as he has been there! He is a great father and now hung up his career to focus on his marriage and children ❤
Yep , Elton is his sponsor. Em just celebrated 16 years today ❤
In their later years, Elton toured with Billy Joel. What a duo!
Just posted that
I showed a giant Stadium
That was a great show
When tickets were affordable
Me too here in Philly at old Vet Stadium. What a concert. Just wish music today was better. Rock is almost dead. I’m an 80’s kid, long hair with hair metal but nothing is as good as there music of Elton, Billy Joel etc. Keep on crushing it Pegasus I’m here for it!!

Bernie Taupin was always his writer in the past & great friends ofcourse. My brother & I met him, Bernie Taupin & the rest of the band at the time, 1972, at John Lennon Airport (Liverpool Airport) I was 12 yrs old & got his autograph!! But of typically I lost it!! I'm almost 64 yrs old now & still love his songs forever. 💖💖💖😼😼😼😼
💫⚘️Yes, you are correct! According to Wikipedia, Elton John and Tim Rice wrote the songs for the original Lion King⚘️💫
I Love Elton John... I was blessed to go to one of his concerts when I was about 50. He is fabulous. He played all of the hits. Too many to remember. Daniel is one of my favorites and I'm Still Standing. I would like to see your reaction, I'm sure you will love it.
Sir Elton is the epitome of perfection
Elton John's first big hit and it was beautiful and what a classic.
Your Song" is a song written by musician Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was John's first international Top 10 chart single.
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and Elton John Composes all the Music. Elton was our generation's Amadéus.
Since you have a newborn react to his lullaby,
*The Greatest Discovery*
It is beautiful.
For your new born baby. 💕
The 1970 version at BBC is good. He introduced Bernie Taupin as having written his most beautiful song.
I don't know how many times I've listened to this song, but you just hit upon probably one of the most brilliant aspects of it, a hidden gem. It is "your" song, as in whoever is listening to it because the lyrics are so generic. EJ's lyricist is his partner Bernie Taupin, and this isn't the first time I've been amazed by his lyrics. For example, there's a song titled Levon, one you need to listen to if you love great lyrics. At one point, the lyrics state "He shall be Leveon, and he shall be a good man. (ritardando) He shall be Levon." And as the last line is slowed down, you can hear it stating that "he shall believe on", as in his faith ensured. Great stuff. Keep going with Elton John, massive rabbit hole.
Elton is among the greats.
Bernie Taupin is the lyricist who writes the words and Elton puts music to them. They've worked together and been best friends for over 50 years.
Glad you like the lyrics - written by Bernie Taupin. Dude, you need to acknowledge who did what in the Taupin/John partnership
Amazing Song!! So many!! Good by Norma Jean, he remade it for Princess Diana’s Funeral!! All of Yellow Brick Road!!
This has consistently topped polls as Elton's most loved song. It is written in such a simple way and that is the impact it has,, I can imagine someone sitting on their front porch sitting in the sun happy anyway but really happy with a grin on their face thinking of the person this is dedicated to. As U say it could be your love, child or friend. As he says there is not much wrong with the world with you in it.
This still gives me all the feels even after all these years
Iconic Elton song was one dedicated to Marilyn Monroe and then amended to honor Lady Diana during her funeral. If interested...it's "CANDLE IN THE WIND". One of his most beautiful and endearing songs. Means so much. 🥰
He was flawless.
Candles in the wind, everywhere 👁️👁️
Norma Jean was Marilyn Monroe.
He's got one of the largest hit catalog in music history more than most artist. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. With a few exceptions when Elton helped.
Beautiful! Elton John wrote the melody of the song and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Went to an Elton John concert January 2023 in Melbourne on a 38C day outside and Elton & the band played their hearts outs and never missed a beat 🔥🔥
Most of Elton's hits were collaborations with Bernie Taupin.
Elton and Bernie are all time goats...GREAT writing analysis!!! never thought of it thatway!!!
Saw him live in Dallas. It was worth every penny.
He actually wrote this at an early point in his career when he was opening for Three Dog Night. They liked the song so much, they asked and he gave his okay for them to record it. They released it first in March 1970 as an album track on It "Ain't Easy" but had agreed to not do it as a single, so that Elton could do that. It appeared in April as the first cut on his self-titled second studio album. Great song!
He can do anything. In the 70s, I watched him do this song solo in the piano then rock out on the following song and do handstands on his piano during a guitar solo. He has done it all!
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is worth a listen.
He is just a legend, great song, like all his work. Tiny Dancer is one of my favourites.
I have always loved Elton John, I was lucky enough to be a teen when his awesome music came out!
This has to be my favorite song. Have loved Elton forever. I use to say his song The Bitch is Back was my anthem. Lol. Love this man so much.
This is his second studio album he released (1970) and it immediately established him as a major international star! This record has always been one of my favorites, must listen would be Take Me To The Pilot in addition to this song. There is a wonderful movie out about Elton John that was released in 2019 entitled Rocketman.... took a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor (Taron Egerton as EJ). Got to see EJ at Virginia Beach Ampitheater in 2014 and even though he cannot hit those high notes like he used to, he absolutely CRUSHED Rocketman..... I can't even fInd the words to describe that moment, but it will live with me FOREVER! Nobody has a right to be this talented! Great reaction, TY.
This was Eltons first song. Bernie wrote the lyrics and Elton wrote the music in minutes. Both were incredible in the space as a lyricist and musician. Watch the movie Rocketman...must see!!
Im pretty sure this was his first hit, so he was not rich yet, but i loved this first time i heard it on the radio, and yes he did write it.
He was one of the most outstanding shows I've ever seen. In San Jose, just him, his piano and a single percussionist. It was truly amazing the sound that a man and his piano can make.
He was knighted by the Queen of England played in her Jubilee Sir Elton
I love this so much, I am commenting twice!!! Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics and Elton composes and sings all the music. Songs to check out from his old music.. goodbye yellow brick road, brown dirt cowboy, Daniel, someone saved my life tonight or 80’s Elton Bitch is back, I’m still standing, I guess that’s why they call it the blues… so much amazing music to choose from
Saw him in the 90's with Billy Joel in the Orlando FL stadium, just about everyone we knew and were related to us came to the concert. We took up almost a whole section!! We had a blast!!!😍🦩🦩🦩🦩
Not sure of the why, but damn the first time I heard this song it just put a sort of tether in my soul. Every time I hear it I'm just transported back to where I was the first time into some wonderful memories. Thank you Elton.
One of the greatest pieces of all time! Sweet, kind and beautiful human thoughts and feelings! Thank you for reacting to this and reintroducing this music for everyone to experience. It's important to keep this alive ! It matters. ❤
You had it right, Elton sang "Crocodile Rock." Such a dang catchy song! I think you'd like "Benny and the Jets," "Philadelphia Freedom," and "I'm Still Standing"
You should listen to, even if you don't do a reaction, Elton John and George Michael singing "Don't let the sun go down on me". I have only watched the live version, but it is beautiful. Love your reactions. Congratulations on your new baby girl!!!
This song is over 50 years old and is one of the best ever written.
Elton is for sure goated in my opinion
Albums were made to be listened like a journey. You put them on and listen to them through like watching a movie . They were relatively expensive compared to other eras so artists put a lot of work into them. They were usually driven by a single released on radio but many of the songs on the album were as popular as the single and would be requested.
