I have been an Elton fan since I was a kids d . If it had not been so expensive to fly back home, I would have been there when his farewell tour was in my hometown. Luckily one of my friends went and shared videos. My favorite song is the duet with him and George Michael.
Elton John is on a whole different level. He resides amongst the Greatest of all time. So many beautiful songs and sounds. "Daniel" is one of his best.
Sir Elton John is about as good as anyone can get. He has won every award and an Oscar for best song and soundtrack with Ted Levine for the Lion King. The man was a trendsetter and rule breaker. A self-made man for sure. His musical collection is very extensive and crosses genres. In 71 he was on the verge of greatness. The song was originally recorded in 69. Elton is NOT about 1 style of sunglasses, he probably has the most extensive collection on the planet, glasses are where they are today because of him. This man is a trend setter and style breaker.
They were prescription glasses not just sunglasses, he was quiet near sighted in his young days. When he got older he didn't seem to wear glasses as much so he may have worn contact lens or most likely got lasik eye surgery to correct his vision.
Sir Elton John truly does have an immense catalog. Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting, The Bitch Is Back, Rocket Man, I'm Still Standing, PinBall Wizard with Tina Turner from Tommy. Just a few of so many great tunes!

You really need to go and look back at Elton's career, it's an amazing journey. The first Elton song I bought was "Crocodile Rock" as a 45 which started my collection of all his albums through the '70's and '80's. Elton works with his musical partner Bernie Taupin, Bernie writes the lyrics and then Elton writes the music. what an amazing duo they are. Like Billy Joel, Elton is a "piano man"
This is my favorite Elton John song ever. It's so beautiful. " Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is very special to me as well. This friend of mine that lives in London loves that song as much as I do. She came over one summer when I lived in LA. We were just teenagers then and have so many memories that include "Someone Saved My Life Tonight".

One of my favorite love songs. What a line: "How wonderful life is while you're in the world." And, along with "Tiny Dancer," one of my favorite songs by Elton John.
Absolutely beautiful song, such a uniquely talented performer, musician and a prolific song writer, a genuine legend for over four decades and deservedly so.....😃
Sir Elton John has been performing since 1969 and recently had a No.1 single, a duet with Dua Lipa, in the UK. I have seen him 6 times in concert and to me he is one of best performers/songwriters of all time. A remarkable musician who pays it back in the fostering of new musicians on his Rocket radio hour with Apple Music as well as his philanthropic endeavours with AIDS and other charitable causes. 'Your Song', from the self title album from 1970, is a brilliant melody which helped him break into the US charts. This early period of his I find to be most rewarding. My favourite album is 'Tumbleweed Connection' yet 'Elton John', 'Madman Across the Water' and 'Honky Chateau' are equally as good. I do hope you explore these.
Fun fact, Elton John (Real name; Reg Dwight!) Born on a council estate in London poor, but was a virtuoso on the piano could play anything by ear Classical Pieces at 3 years old flawlessly like Bach and Beathoven etc.. but once he heard Blues and Boogie Woogie, Jazz and Modern Piano he got into pop music! He writes all his music and his writing partner Bernie Taupin something or other writes the lyrics so he writes a tune and his mate writes lyrics to it.. been the same his whole career they've ALWAYS worked together exclusively as far as I know solid writing team. He's also The Director of a fairly major Football(Soccer) Club, here in England that he's been a life long fan of since he was a kid! Top man and he is talent! Proper English National Treasure. You need to review "candle in the wind" Great Classic Song! (He wrote that about Marylin Monroe!!) And another great song he did was "Guess that's why they call it the Blues" also a good tune! He's had loads tbh.. but these are Good ones! Cheers from London England 👍🏴
Elton was one of those acts I overlooked growing up the 80s because - you know, he was 1970s and uncool. But now - talk about classic! His music has aged so well; and I guess my ears are better!
His first hit. This & Benny & the Jets - my favorites. I was 11 or 12 when this came out, it touched me. His voice was so great when he was young. It’s beautiful.
Some people can sing and play an instrument at the same time. It is called talent. Reginald Dwight aka Elton John, has this talent. And by an order of magnitude.
Reminds me me of being a teen, sitting under an old oak tree with a friend with a cool breeze blowing on a warm summer evening puff puff passing listening to smooth soothing songs by Elton John.
Elton is an amazingly talented vocalist and musician and performer. Blows me away. You should watch "border song" by Elton. Live version from 1971. Amazing.
I was probably 5 or 6 and this this song is how I learned to rewind a cassette tape to specific spot. The entire Don't Shoot Me I'm The Piano Player album is great. I had a particular curiosity with You're Song and it unlocked something in my young mind.
What a wonderful artist, thank you for reacting to this piece. Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is one of my favorite from Sir Elton John though you can't go wrong with any of his and Bernie's ( Elton's long time songwriter and friend ) masterpieces.
Agreed, Brad seems to get a lot of shit for being less emotionally affected but I really liked the mutual immersion and recognition of the influence of Elton John 's music.
His most memorable song is Candle In The Wind (it's about Marilyn Monroe)/Goodbye England's Rose (sung at Princess Diana's funeral). Personally my most recognised Elton song is Elton John and Kiki Dee - Don't go break-in' my heart. That was a big hit when I was a kid
It's worth noting that in the '70s at least, Elton John never wrote lyrics. His writing partner Bernie Taupin would write lyrics and hand them over to Elton, who would then set them to music.
Apparently Bernie was just 17 when he wrote this. Years later in an interview Elton described how amazed he still is that a 17 year old could write such a beautiful lyrics about love.
@@betsyduane3461 No he didn't. lol He got his lyrics from several songwriters/poets, most notably Roger Christian, a local DJ acquaintance. Brian would call Roger up saying he needed a song, and the two men would meet up and Roger would give Brian the lyrics. Brian would then race home and write the music to accompany the lyrics. This happened over and over again, with Roger co-writing many Beach Boys songs--including two of my favorites, "Little Deuce Coupe", and, "Don't Worry, Baby", which I believe to be the Beach Boys best song ever.
Elton John was one of those unique cases. He didn't make it big in England then come to America. He was a near nobody when his manager brought him to America. His musical partner was Bernie Taupin who wrote all the amazing words and lyrics for the songs. Elton was the 'Mozart' like musical genius that could literally read the lyrics while sitting at the piano and create a song. He came to America and a band was formed around him here. You guys should check out "Your Song" from the movie Moulin Rouge. The whole movie is great but Ewan McGregor does an unbelievable job on this song. Also, the reprise of "Come What May" is one of the best songs ever.
I agree with you on Ewan McGregor's rendition. I like it better than Elton's. While not a popular opinion, I feel that the way Ewan paces and phrases the lyrics fits better with the music. Elton's always seemed a bit abrupt with the phrases, like he was rushing the words so he could focus on playing.
I saw him in concert on Halloween 1980 at the Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas. When he sang the lyrics "I don't have much money" the whole audience started laughing like it was a comedian telling the funniest joke .
I had a friend who had a friend that worked at the "Loss Leaders" of Reprise/WEA records. They built compilations of obscure recordings, mostly artists covering lesser known works of other artists. On one of the LP's he gave to me was a recording of this song, but not from Elton John, instead, by the group Bread. Equally, if not more so, as beautiful as John's. For years, I thought this was their song, and that John covered it.
@@brucedillinger9448 The only place I have seen it is on that LP. These albums weren't really sold. For the most part they were given to those in the industry, just as my friend's friend acquired it. Imagine David gates singing it. I do wish I still had it, along with all my other LPs from the time. I left over 300 LPs, my Kenwood 600C amplifier, Technics 1200 turntable, 2 AR10 bookshelf speakers and 2 Bose 201 bookshelf speakers when I left Hawaii because I had no clue where I was going. I figured they would all be relatively easy to replace, but CDs happened instead.
Playing and singing at the same time is such an underrated skill. Executing one set of rhythms with your hand while singing another is so GD hard. It’s like “pat your head and rub your tummy” x10 for me. But you’re right, when you’re doing it well it’s because you’re not thinking, the second you think about what comes next you mess up. Or, at least I do. 😇🤣
Elton was HUGE in the 70s, with 19 songs in the top 10 either in the US or the UK (or both of course). Plus "bottom 30" songs galore. And he kept on, albeit not with such huge success, pretty much ever since. He is huge (oh, I said that).
His catalogue is immense. "Tiny Dancer' is another standard.

I saw him perform in Syracuse '92,great show!
This is my mom’s all time favorite song ever ❤️
Playing and singing at the same time is such an underrated skill. Executing one set of rhythms with your hand while singing another is so GD hard. It’s like “pat your head and rub your tummy” x10 for me. But you’re right, when you’re doing it well it’s because you’re not thinking, the second you think about what comes next you mess up. Or, at least I do. 😇🤣
This was his first big hit, his breakthrough. Very quickly his career took off in USA, the 70s megastar.
Elton had all kinds of glasses, all different and cool
Elton was HUGE in the 70s, with 19 songs in the top 10 either in the US or the UK (or both of course). Plus "bottom 30" songs galore. And he kept on, albeit not with such huge success, pretty much ever since. He is huge (oh, I said that).
Hasn't he just broke a record for top 10 hit in each decade since the start of his career...
@@shaneord7527 That I don't know. I do know that Cher has had a #1 hit on one chart or another in every decade since the 60s.
Great song! This one of my favorites of his.
Still standing🤘
Hard to listen to without getting teary eyed 🙂
Bernie Tomlin always wrote the lyrics and Elton wrote the music. This was an amazing collaboration between the two!!
Daniel, Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night, and Rocket Man. Just to name a few. All his songs are great.
Beautiful Team Colors
This as the first song of his to really chart in the U.S. - from that point on the early 70's were full of Elton John songs.
