Chomsky a intellectual and scholar has been blacklisted and is on a very short leash, those that stray , lose their livelyhood politicians / media figures included. +Dymogrom China might be the country with the biggest pollution output but the USA is next on the list. You may also want to make yourself aware of the fact that a great many western companies take advantage of cheap labour in China therefore China inherits the pollution that would otherwise be domestically located. Deforestation is a big problem too which puts Brazil next on the list but last time I checked MacDonalds is an American company and soy bean production in Brazil goes hand in hand with feeding those cattle on the cheap which causes further deforestation. We can trace all that back to the USA. I therefore suggest that the USA is responsible for a lot more pollution and environmental problems than they lay claim to. When the rainforests are tampered with on such an industrial scale this in turn is a major cause of the extinction of species at the rate Chomsky mentions (David Attenborough will tell you the same thing and that guy knows what the hell he's talking about).
      You look at the surface but fail to see beneath it even at a fundamental level. Climate change is an issue predominantly forged by the 1st world. What Chomsky has to say is pretty much bang on the money here. To refute it is ignorance.

      @renjay3743 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I thought it was you who was casting blame by singling out China. I wonder if you can answer this. How much of the pollution from China is as a direct result of them manufacturing goods for companies that are located elsewhere in the world?

      +R. V.S. (Empty Sky) Pity it's pretty obvious that it's never going to happen, this concerted effort in many countries. Our politicians cannot implement long-term plans. They are in power for too short a time. Other than that we as humans can't stop making new wars , raping women, beheading journalists, organizing regime change,...
      The obvious lesson is there will not ever be a concerted effort.
      Our best bet is geo engineering, and/or some unforeseen invention (e.g. much better batteries) that allow us to create enough energy without producing extra greenhouse gasses.
      SO logically what we have to do then mainly, is invest in research.
      I'm all for conserving nature and wildlife, but not for a naive view of humanity, or for this idea of "fighting climate change". Like an ant fighting a cloud. If anything will save us, it is imo going to be technology, that is our main trick as humans, and it's what we've been doing ever since we took sticks in our hands, or mastered fire, ...

      Different skill-set. Academics are great at gathering and analyzing data. Politicians and leaders rally people into action. Sort of the difference between Spock and Kirk on *Star Trek*.
      That said, Chomsky is the best commentator on politics I've ever encountered. But... Long-winded. Overly-detailed. And not easily simmered-down to sound-bite level (another failing of your typical Spock).
      But spot-on if you've pay attention and follow his evidence and reasoning.

      Rik V Chomsky is a revolutionary MIT linguist whose theory -- that grammaical structures are inborn -- has withstood scrutiny. He has advanced the science, rescuing it from lists of words and grammar rules to a data-driven science that observes developmental cognition through language acquisition..
      In short, he's smart.
      On the side, he uses his skills at uncovering and analyzing data to perform as a Public Intellectual. He leans left, no doubt. But you guys used to have smart people like Buckley -- though now your "intellectual" leaders are yellow partisans like Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh. A considerable step down.
      Which is exemplified by your "argument." Which consists of a silly, fact-free personal attack. Against a straw-man Chomsky that would destroy you in a real debate.
      But, I will give you a chance.
      I mean, do you have any documentary evidence that Chomsky hates his skin color? Or that his testicles were removed? Or that he advocates opening our borders (FYI -- I've read most of what he;s written. He doesn't.)

      Chomsky is a liar. Even the co-founder of Green Peace no longer
      believes in man made climate change. CO2 levels have been many
      multiples higher than at present, and this was thousands of years before industrialization was even thought of. Mammals did just fine, and an added bonus is that plant life also thrived. In fact, plant life serves as a negative feed back loop for CO2 levels.
      None of the actual data (Ted Cruz trounced Aaron Mair in front of a
      Senate committee on just this topic) shows a rise in temperatures except for an anomaly of a warm winter here and there with temperatures returning to normal once that unusual high pressure breaks down. In fact, this happened in my area. We had 3 winters with near record high temperatures nearly every day, but that was because of a stubborn high pressure which caused the jet stream to flow father north. It kept all the cold air in Canada. The 4th winter and we had the normal pattern of low pressure areas, which caused the jet stream to flow father south and allowed the cold air from Canada in. Temperatures returned to normal.

Who would be the better leader and make the USA prosperous again. Who would actually have an opinion based on fact and not dictated by controllers. Who would have enough common sense and courage to do the job? I'm NOT saying we need to elect communists... but we do need to have leaders that represent the majority of people. +ted norton What we have now is a totalitarian, fascist police state. People support our government out of ignorance of the changes and refusal to see the changes (love of GOD and country?), or out of fear. My guess would be that the NSA monitors me and probably most in this room. What freedom of speech? Our constitution is dead. Our voting rights are of non-effect and represent nothing more than a ceremony expected. The government represents the supply side, big banks, and multinationals. If you think individuals have it bad, you should try small business... but, that's another story. Communism tries to make all people equal, which never has or never will work. In a fascist state, the important thing is the government. In a true democracy, the important thing is the people. No democracy has lasted over 200 years, ours included. I have bent over to kiss my ass goodby, but i'm not going to bury my head in the sand. At least I have no children.

    My synopsis of the video:
    Species destruction accelerating right now - global warming / climate change initiatives have been blocked by congressional Republicans. Trump outright denies the existence of climate change. Trump wants to violate international law by conducting torture at least equal to but preferably more severe than waterboarding.
    People in Central America fleeing results of military coups and destructive policies spearheaded in part by the US. Global public opinion poll actually identified United States as greatest threat to world peace. Spectacle of Republican primary is frightening people around the world.
    You can understand why some people in the US are flocking to Trump and rallying to his standard. Trump is kind of a wildcard, some things he says makes sense, some are crazy. US is a very powerful state; do we want a rash, impulsive, person with their finger on the (nuclear) button? Ted Cruz probably even more dangerous though.

      +dkmeller1 Is this some sort of strange joke? Capitalism always sees capital focused into the hands of a small group of people, creating a capitalist elite. As money is power, these capitalists have power over the powerless. With no government, this power is absolute as mega-corps can literally form militaries to maintain control. Capitalism leads to what is essentially an "absolute monarchy". In response to your strange critique of libertarian socialism, I think your understanding of what it stands for is wrong. We are people who are sceptical of hierarchy, like the state and the workplace, where the government and the bosses have unjust power. All this means is that we don't want a government and that workers should all equally and democratically own their work. I am really not sure how you came up with the idea that under socialism, everybody owns each other. The whole society and the individual communities is based on voluntary human relationships. No human is 'owned'.

      +Timothy Roper No, no, it is not for that. I am from the neighboring state of West Bengal of India. We accepted millions of Banladeshi refugees during war( when Bangladesh got liberation from Pakistan with the help of India.) That was so huge that crippled the economy of the state for a decade. They still come in huge numbers. The fence was to prevent terrorist activity. Bangladesh has problems with terrorist organization like Jamat(branch of Laskar-e-toiba), we do not want that in India. It just like what Turkey does as they border Syria.

    • @lorcanbonda1241
      @lorcanbonda1241 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Timothy Roper If you get a chance, watch John Oliver's take on the border wall. A couple of things:
      1) We already have a fence and a river.
      2) For various reasons, the fence can't always run alongside the river, so there is usually a few hundred yards of someone's personal property which is split in half by the fence. There is actually a golf course in this no-man's land. To get to the golf course, people have to drive through the fence.
      3) The fence does absolutely zero benefit at keeping people and contraband out of the US.
      4) The cost of a wall will be ~$35 billion with about the same amount added every year to our spending for maintenance.

How do you not see this?

    • @elGenioWalter
      @elGenioWalter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Empire of Chaos At least we are having a mostly cordial discussion in contrast to the "adult" GOP presumptive nominee. Merely suggesting "working with Russia" will accomplish little to nothing except for Putin pouncing on such a statement to proclaim Trump the "absolute leader" (see google: US and Russia working together). Putin, of course, modified what working together means, saying that such a partnership extended to ISIS and Syria. Putin is aware of the problems Russia potentially has with its large Muslim population and wants nothing more than to clamp down and defeat all militant Muslims. But relations with Russia have been, and always will be, dicey at best. The Crimea, Ukraine, Iran, Russia's petrostate status, the corruption in the Russian Government, Putin's reliance on "systema", the crashing ruble, all presage continuing problems that threaten any attempt to "work with" Putin. Perestroika and glasnost went only so far. A good read on present day Russia is in the current bi-monthly issue of Foreign Affairs. Sanctions over the Crimean and Ukrainian affairs have further compromised the Russian economy. Perhaps you would want a President Trump to lift sanctions in the hope of "working together" in the future? I would think that would be counterproductive and would only further embolden Putin. As for the hawkishness of all who sought the nomination this cycle, they really are not very different in their approach. Liberals or Democrats, in general, seem to have been moving to the right on the issue of our military power and its uses. Obama has conducted a Yuge drone campaign with barely a whisper from the traditional Left. His promises to extricate us from foreign entanglements in Afghanistan and Iraq have gone by the wayside, and we could have a Yuge discussion about what happened in Iraq and the birth of ISIS, but that is fodder for another day. We have spun to the East and China in an effort to trade with/contain that country, both economically and militarily. (Don't you just love their building of islands in the Indian Ocean to further the reach of their navy?) So really, it's not a question of being the smartest liberal sitting on his duff, or the dumbest liberal in the same position, or the smartest conservative, or leftist, or tea partier, or independent. It's whether our electorate can extract enough information from Trump or Clinton as to their foreign policy positions (with a little more clarity that just saying that we will kick ISIS's ass or we'll make America great again, or you'll "love it, I promise you"), their economic positions and all the other important issues facing our Country. And, by the way - what does Make America Great Again really mean. It's like a slogan on a license plate. Trump, the license plate candidate. When did America stop being great? Was it when Bush 2 was elected? Obama? Clinton 1? Carter? If were are no longer great, where would Trump chose to live so that he could be a citizen of a great country?
