Noam definitely did not have a harsh enough criticism of Russia. He does make a good point that israel was probably a larger player in our election than Russia, but he fails to categorize the latter as explicitly malicious. the american fixation on russia isn't about russia itself or hacking or interference for a lot of people. it's about angling to get rid of trump, until which time the US is effectively crippled in attempts to address larger issues, such as climate change. this point somehow escaped the conversation.
This problem extends beyond trump, at the federal level especially. The two major parties, as they are, without major reform, are too near-sighted to even approach the scale of issues chomsky deems priorities. It's just not in the capacity of this government. Look, I'm an African American from Detroit, but now I am confused at the Liberal position on having a border. Do they think people should be screened at all? Do they think everyone should be able to enter the US?
I don't. Our country has gone through labor pains to effect justice in the last two centuries, from a deadly labor movement to the civil rights agenda, protesting wars and fighting for justice for women in the home and workplace.
So, we're not some magical democracy. Our predecessors fought and even died by the millons (in aggregate) for societal betterment.
If everyone comes here and refuses to fight for betterment in their homelands, do they think things will magically get better at home? We don't have unlimited resources as they seem to think.
