There is actually 2 specific things that could make sense for megamind sequel - they did neither.
First thing is "who blew up his planet" and to have it deal with themes of revenge or more likely for megamind a lack of interest in it, which would lead to endangering earth because he doesn't deal with the villain sooner. Because sometimes revenge is actually the best choice.
The second one could be due to megaminds ego him trying to do something he thinks is good on a massive scale only for it to lead to suffering because he did not think of the consequences(this one in particular would never be made by a modern studio because it is too politically relevant).
Just tossing a bunch of villains at him without underlying themes to the idea of superheroics in general is to miss the point of megamind.
Right? Megamind's character doesn't really have any reason to be interesting beyond the end of the movie: Bad guy kills good guy, gets bored of winning, misunderstands the essence of being a good person, ends up saving the day because one person starts treating him like a human being, and he learns how to treat them like a human being as well.
Beyond that, Megamind is just your average superhero, and I think it would be really hard to make a meaningful sequel.
If Megamind’s not voiced by Will Ferrell, it’s not cannon.

Another animated movie franchise that get a similar treatment was Surf's Up. It is known as one of the best Sony Animation film and got more recognizition way later than its release date, but they decided to follow it up with a directed to little kids slop that goes directly to dvd and not to be featured in cinemas, while also disrespecting their own established canon.

Oh man. I forgot about this one. The first Surfs up was incredible for so many reasons.
Surf's Up, Flushed Away and Monster House all had the misfortune of coming out at a time when every 3D cartoon movie that wasn't made by Pixar was basically a Shrek clone. Unfortunately those 3 movies ended being hidden gems under a pile of trash.
I think a better way of improving the plot would be making it so the Doom Syndicate is a group of superheroes instead still thinking Megamind is evil and he would need to prove himself of being a hero, but that’s just my opinion

Something else that has long peered my interests should MegaBoi Adventures 2 be rewritten and plug in here: Maybe the "Doom Syndicate" are not just heros under the guise of villainy, but also Dimensional Travelers of sorts seeking out that large brain individual to save many universes from their Corrupted Metroman.

I feel like a prequel would work better than a sequel. I mean he lived on a whole ass planet (for a short time) with his parents. Also, maybe we could actually hear the message he was told before they send him to Earth. I don't think you could make a good sequel for Megamind anymore, but there's a few prequel ideas. Maybe that's just me tho
The message he was told is “your are destined for greatness” but they cut that out between the trailer for Megamind and then the movie release, but you can still lip read it when his father is cut off by the escape pod.
It’s really a shame megamind got the negative attention of being a “despicable me clone” despite the only similarity in those movies being main characters are redeemed villains.
the reason the incredibles took so long to get a sequel is that the director (brad bird) said he didn't wanna make one until he had a good enough idea. ultimately it feels less like he got that idea and more like pixar wanted dat money. incredibles 2 got its release pushed a whole year earlier bc they wanted to spend more time working on toy story 4, yknow

As an animator this is such a middle finger. Megamind's animation is superb and so full of life. Little details everywhere. You can tell that the animators were having fun, or at the very least were passionate. The new "movie" looks like something I'd cook up in SFM (without tutorials) to piss off my friends. #notmymegamind
Genuinely, I think the big issue is it’s made by a different group of animators than dreamworks and something clearly went wrong during the process of transferring files if that even happened at all

When I saw that Chicken Run 2 came out, I made sure to rewatch the original and then watch the sequel.
I hadn't seen the original for about fifteen or so years, and I never realized just how incredible of a movie it was.
Then when I watched Chicken Run 2... it was just a generic kids movie. Sure it was more or less fine, but like, what happened to Aardman in those twenty years?

If Megamind got a big budget sequel instead of Kung Fu Panda 4 not only would more people would see it than an unnecessary 4th instalment, but the merchandise sales alone would print Dreamwoks all the money for 2024.....This new movie and possibly upcoming series looks worse than those nickelodeon shows for those dreanworks shows in the early 2010's.....even though animation has come so far
Finally someone that sees how dumb a fourth Kung Fu Panda film is! I swear everyone says all kind of fantastic things about Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon sequels and I just stay there like "have we seen the same movies?" (honestly Kung Fu Panda 2 was very good but beyond that I don't see it)

I'm actually willing to let this movie slide for the reasons brought up in the first 5 minutes of this video.
This movie is basically just the pilot episode for the show, in the same way that Clone Wars was the pilot episode for its series.
It took a while for Incredibles 2 to be made because Brad Bird wanted to wait until he found a premise good enough to warrant a sequel.

Years ago, I had a dream of how the "Megamind" sequel would be:
-It started in the Christmas holiday season. Everyone was happy, Megamind and Roxanne were in a shoping helping the crew with decorations and whatnot, there were kids around, happy to see Megamind, some of them were probably the couple's own children... And then the scene would cut to the town's other side, where some police officers were patrolling, spotting suspicious activity.
Unfortunately, the dream ended there. I don't know what else might have been in store.

They should have went with the theme of him trying to prove to the people that still doubt him that he is good. Then he goes through some scene where he ponders if he really deserves to be a hero or continue to be one. Then there would be some group or singular person that wanna end Megamind out of revenge or dislike. They would fight, blah blah blah, city gets destroyed, Megamind loses trust, then he tries to redeem himself in the second part of the movie by defeating the villain or some other good, or just works on it, then the movie ends. The last movie just ended with everyone accepting that he had a change of heart without making him accountable of his past mistakes, at least make a movie relating to that.
lets say instead of the doom syndicate a villain group he used to be a part of, why not have them be old minions that he had that he forgot about or didnt care for and abandoned. or maybe have a group of aliens attack the city, or have either of Megamind's or Metroman's race be evil and come back to take over.

I think the most insulting part of the sequel (for me at least) is how the story its portraying is fundamentally missing the point of the movie. Magamind and Metroman were the villain/hero only because society just told them they are that, regardless of what they actually wanted/believed. About that comment about “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, the only way it would get a 2036 release is if Phil Lord and Chris Miller take their toxic way of making movies too far. From there, Sony Pictures Animation would have no choice but to fire them and restart the entire production from scratch with brand-new writers and producers.

when a movie don't work well dreamworks makes a great sequel, but when it goes super well it gets this
