Well Joel. Review was spot on. Well done. They charm at outset and you saw through the thin veneer. They don’t drive out this world , just ok. The review was very very accurate. The MC is a diff prospect. They are gorgeous, all the Gran Turismos.

      Maintenance cost?

    • @robertm3730

@@sleepeatdrive7619 ONE SET of brake pads are Ferrari priced at around $600 PER wheel. God have mercy on your soul if you need a strut replaced, which is over $1500. Other than the amazing growl of the 4.7 liter, a BRAND NEW BMW M240i blows this away on nearly every metric. I have seen guys drive these Maseratis and they are not forgiving when the rear end spins out. Plus, they are slower than newer cars of most any other performance car from 0-60.

    1. The 4.7 Sport was quite a big improvement over the original 4.2 for performance and sound 2. The sticky buttons - that's a fixable issue, and not all cars get it. 3. There is a third party company called AuCar who sell a replacement Sat Nav system custom fit for the GT - It's about £1000 but gives you a modern touch screen sat nav - changes the car completely.

I’m loving my QPV and although similar to the GT, is a different proposition. Amazing cruiser, double glazed and electric seats in the rear. Practical car to swan around in with a Ferrari engine up front. Also read that the exhaust frequency of the Maserati Quattroporte is 333 HZ, which is a frequency level that supposedly stimulates the sexual arousal in women.

I have a 2013 and I love it. Exhaust is awesome and i love listening to it every drive. Looks fabulous and people do notice it. M3s want to race me and I've beaten them easily. The only con is the entertainment center with the out dated looks and tech. Plus the damn sticky buttons. But I didn't buy it for the tech so I'm good. Mite add apple car play next year. That will drastically update the interior and give the car a new feel.

The sound!!! What an amazing sound that car makes. I love the spec of that one, and if you want a stylish cruiser then surely it has to be up there. Those problems you described on the 6 series were only really prevalent on the V8s 4.4 and 4.8. If you could settle with the slightly slower 3.0 630i it was a much more reliable block

Joel. It's a year after you uploaded this video. Yesterday, 18 Jan 2024 I test-drove a 2011 Grand Cabrio 4.7L S with 39000 miles on the clock. It was a short drive but my take is that this later version does look inside and out better than the earlier models and inside lots of improvements regarding buttons and controls. It was priced at £30k. It's quite a hard drive, and this particular car badly needed a deep clean. I didn't buy it, but could be tempted to buy my first Maserati but a later model maybe 2013 or 2014. Not sure if Cabrio or Tourismo.

I think your expectations were too high of it to be honest. It’s a GT cruiser with a lovely exhaust note, it’s not a sports car. They’re also typically Italian in that the engine has to be REVVED(!) to get the most of it. They don’t have any low down torque. The sticky buttons is annoying for sure but ultimately a minor gripe when you compare to the Germans with their dire issues.

Hey, a bit late to the party, but I have had similar problems with the sticky buttons on my Jag XK. It's not really all that expensive, you can get a pack of makeup removal wipes (either buy or steal some from the missus). I've had a couple of really badly affected buttons, but even those cleaned up nicely after 3-4 wipes. If the disgusting buttons are something you are bothered by, it's worth trying out before you take it to a professional.

Kinda twitchy with too much power. Sounds awesome but not on par with 5cyl or v10 v12 or other v8s. But after the inch scratched sadly it’s a no. The brand is all image. Saw one of these on autotrader for 13k the other day, Ridiculous amount of car for the money, regardless of reliability issues. However I agree with you on the driving experience. And that £13k example would be never ending misery. I too saw a purple one on Autotrader that had a bad body kit and had done 160,000 miles for £13k. The body work was utterly shocking. C'mon Joel, a Maserati 4.7 Granturismo S is not slow. Most modern 5 series BMW's aren't faster. 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds, 0-100mph in 10.6 seconds and 0-124mph in 15.4 seconds is still pretty quick by most standards. It's certainly quick enough to enjoy on British roads without being so quick that you run out of road in a couple of seconds.
Performance cars are now too quick. I was in a McLaren 720 S fairly recently and if you put your foot down for 6 seconds after exacting a roundabout at 30 mph, you're doing 125 mph and deep into ban territory. Driving a 720 S and trying to keep close to speed limits is just no fun at all.

In normal mode I do find the car a little hard work and less enjoyable but press the Sport (my button is completely worn away and I can understand why) and put the windows down and it's gorgeous. The steering on mine is quite light so not sure why that one is heavy. In the 4 months of ownership I've never used the media system due to the sound but the sat nav is a bit dated. Banshee Motorsport are working on an updated system and is due anytime. As they came out in 2007 the whole thing was probably designed in 2005 or earlier ! Yes the Porsche etc is likely to be more user friendly but going in the Mas is a proper event but do agree the drive could be more exciting but you have to remember it's not a hunkered down sports car - it is a GT long range cruiser. 0-62 is 5.2 seconds from memory so not a slouch but it does have to shift 1.9 tons ! The sticky buttons are annoying but I've had that in many cars - especially Mercedes. Using a lemon and a plastic trim tool and a lot of time/elbow grease gets rid of it and make more a better experience. The amount of compliments, smiles and stares is incredible

I have been seriously considering one of these. The straight line grunt was a concern and I think you have just confirmed my suspicions. I'd be looking at a 5.0 xkr instead

Always wanted one of these but a Jaguar XKR is much better in almost every sense. More power, more performance, better reliability, cheaper maintenance etc...

Ghibli owner. I tend to feel that all the downsides to a Maserati (and there are a few) can usually be countered with... yeah but it's a Maserati.
And that's what is keeping me from buying another car.

Bit of an odd review for me. Seems you are looking for sportscar performance in a gt car. Vantage would be exactly the same with same engine options. I guess my thoughts are decide whether you want lighterweight performance or Gt. 997 porsche would bridge the gap between the 2 worlds or 20k buys a great caymen but is it to close to your boxster.

    • @RyneLanders
      @RyneLanders 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

While I agree with your sentiment on understanding the differences between a sports car and a GT car, actually, the V8 Vantage is much sportier. I've got a lot of friends with them, I've had 2 Jaguar XKRs and a Ferrari, and I've got friends with these Maserati GTs, which I've extensively test driven as we've rotated cars on drives. The Maserati GT and the Jaguar are pretty similar in weight and traditional GT feel, with the later 5L getting better suspension, and of course the XKR-S ones having the best. And the Jags feel much more powerful thanks to their superchargers and higher horsepower and torque output. But the Vantage is much stiffer and sportier, more akin to the F-Type. With only 385hp the Vantage isn't super fast but it's more than capable, and it feels good launching forward.
Definitely agree that the Porsche is the best all around option, which is probably why they're so common. But you buy these cars specifically to have something different from the default option, and accept that it will excel in some areas, but fall behind in others.

For £20k I would get a BMW F10 M5...for that price it would be a slightly higher mileage 2011/2012 example but a bit of fun at the weekends and you could probably use it as a daily driver too.

There is one of the nicest spec'd 4.2's near me. Grigio on extended red leather. It's priced really well but the 4.2 just doesn't deliver hence why Maserati scrapped it and for the money I'd take the e63 m6

Prefer the GranCabrio, as the very generous back seats mean you could take three friends out comfortably all day. Tiny boot takes away the GT element though.

What does the sport button do apart from usual throttle sharpness, what does it change on the 4.2? Does it stiffen the suspension or change steering?
