I can only endorse everything you say about the modern Maserati. I bought a 4 year old 2007 Quadroporte with 40000 miles on the clock for £28k. Ferrari 4.2 litre Ferrari petrol engine and all the extras. It’s now got 111000 on the clock and it’s never let me down. People mutter about electrical problems - mines been left out on the street in all weathers including Scottish winters and never failed. A couple of new batteries required and new front discs/pads but that’s it. Find a good independent mechanic to service once a year and it’ll be completely reliable. And that engine …. 😘
In my youth, I would have given my eye teeth for a Maserati!! Now I’m 67 years old and have wanted a campervan for years, I’m more excited by looking at campervans so that I have a choice!!
I bought a 2 year old XK8 Convertible 24 years ago, apart from a manufacturer timing chain tensioner fault it was completely trouble free. It took me 10 years to part with it as I loved driving it from day one. I replaced it with a Hilux to transport my dogs about, it was horrid in comparison albeit also uber reliable.
Really interesting to hear your comment about Pirelli Tyres. I owned an Audi R8 for 12 years and always put Pirelli P Zero tyres on it. When manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces it did that crabbing action with a horrible graunching noise and jumped about. The first time it happened I thought I was driving over a load of rubble.
The crabbing action is called the Ackerman effect and is a consequence of the suspension geometry. Cold tyres exacerbate, and there might be something about the Pirelli compound that makes it more noticeable, but it’s normal and nothing to worry about
Learn something everyday! 20 odd years ago I bought a 2 litre Alfa Gtv coupe and it did exactly that. It was on pretty tired Pirelli P Zero. I preferred Goodyear at the time, new tyres and it was fine. I had assumed it was simply the Pirelli being heavily worn.
Like others have suggested it’s Ackerman angle . It’s actually Anti-Ackerman that causes this effect. This is how formula 1 cars are set up and you can see it on TV where the outside wheel on a corner turns in more than the inside wheel. This is the opposite of what a normal road car is set up. To give a sporty turn in , manufacturers have set up their road cars with Anti-Ackerman . The trade of is at slow tight turns the outside wheel will now drag causing it to skip. This becomes more pronounced as tyre tread wears down and then closer it becomes to being a slick tyre. People end up putting new tyres on which solves the effect for a short while but it’s not for the reasons they think
I'm gettin you fella, all the stupid/sarcastic comments about buying this. Makes it easier for the sensible an passionate to buy cars. Nice work fella ;-)
Thanks david, I can be critical of vehicles but I only do that with knowledge / experience of working on them or driving them. Lots of misconceptions about a lot of cars today
Had my Ghibli diesel (2018) for just over a year now and I absolutely love it. 2nd best car I've ever owned. Changed the tyres to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and it's a totally different animal. Never thought just changing the tyres would make such a difference. If in doubt, test drive it, but know if you do test drive it, you will buy it!
@@andymoore9977 Best handling car I've had is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce Ti. Unfortunately had to sell as getting too tight for the growing kids in the back. Driving the Giulia around winding country lanes at speed, immense handling, such a joy. Some day will go for the QV once the kids get their own cars. Plus in 3yrs of ownership, zero issues.
Thank you for showing us around your Ghibli. I would much prefer this over any BMW M-Sport. It's much more interesting, the engine sounds better, and the bodywork looks MILES better. Most importantly, it would be a lot easier to find a well-maintained and responsibly-owned Ghibli, too.
how times have changed. back in the early 80s I used to service an original Ghibli (AM115) at our garage when I was a teenager. few cars were as exotic or unreliable. it used to come in coughing and farting and leave sounding like a symphony roughly every 2 weeks.
A beauty! Someone will be very lucky to own it after you’ve looked after it so well. Never thought I’d say this about a car salesman but I’d trust everything you’ve said!
We had a 2016 Ghibli S and ran it from 39k miles to 80k. Never a problem. Decent economy and superbly comfortable. Ours had the top spec leather which is important. Easy to live with and really reliable. The infotainment isn't the best but the soundtrack is......
60 or so years ago, as a kid in junior school, I had a Maserati Dinky toy, the best playground racer I ever had - I've loved the name and the marque ever since. Lovely car sir, wish I had the readies!
Nice car, never been in one personally, but it looks great in the blue too! I’ve owned lots of cars throughout y driving life and never really had issues with any of them (mechanical wise). But then I was obsessed (still am) about getting my car serviced regularly and just looking after the car. Some people treat their car as a tip and run them for years, it breaks down then they slag the car off! 😂
Enjoyed watching this, thanks for sharing! Makes a change from watching a channel like Hoovies that keeps buying knackered editions (the v6 petrol) and complain about it, although the Levante he got ended up going well. Also totally hear you on the buying something different, I ended up with an Infiniti Q30 because its that bit rarer and different compared to the Merc GLA its based on. Reactions are always fun, those that know, know, lol and those that dont, their confusion is amusing to see. But again thanks for sharing this, always been Ghibi curious!
I do like the Maseratis and that is a beaut. Interesting to hear just how well you got on with yours, most reviews I've seen are of the oldest, highest mileage examples that have been abused.
Never knew Maserati did a diesel & i've been in the motor trade for years....but we never did high end car in that area. Another thing never knew Brabus was diesel till a mate picked me up in one when i was in Ibiza back in 2017. 😮Only one in ibiza at the time.
Thanks for your prompt reply, I recently had my 2014 Peugeot 508 2ltr tdi in for attention and was given a list of findings after diagnostics. The garage said I should take the car to an authorised Peugeot dealer to fully understand and attend to the findings as they didn't have full access. The garage is part of a large franchise and well equipped but not enough apparently which is disappointing, such is life.
Beautiful car... if I was in the position to buy another car and was looking at that price range then I would have yours because your honest and present it well and know your stuff.... hope someone snaps it up quick...its a great car
Hi Lee great video as usual, I’m not being big headed but I’ve always had nice cars ie Mercedes, BMWs and Alfas…but the Maserati is absolutely beautiful and it is a lifetime achievement for me to actually own one.
Thanks for watching nervo, I like a Merc to be fair. Ran a CLS320 for a couple of years and then sold it to my dad who ran it for few more years. Great car
Hello Lee Would you make a video about : reliable automatic cars you could buy ( 10k pound and under ) and talk about both gasoline and diesel options ?
Wow,had no idea that was diesel Lee,I remember you turning up one Saturday morning at your previous business and thought it sounded really nice, also completely agree with the uniroyal tyres,I've been running them for years on my cars started with rainsport 3,obviously have the rainsport 5 now fantastic tyres done nearly 20k on the set on my old car, track use included and still have around 4mm of tread, very underated tyre in my opinion!good luck with sale and the pitch👍👍👌👌
I bought a brand new Mito and within days it developed gearbox oil leaks and recurring electrical faults ! Long story short, got shut and bought a Mercedes which has never gone wrong in 8 years of ownership, in fact best car I've ever owned !! ( Former motor mechanic for 45 years )
Lee I get the same with alfa romeo I've had alot of cars in my time .but I've always had a big love of Italian cars mainly alfa .my giulia quadrifoglio is a dream to own and drive.but as I say people the 1st thing I get is reliability . Most of these people have never been near these cars Italian cars are amazing.
Nice Motor Lee and as it's been looked after it shouldn't be any further problems ( DPF's? ) . I've been scarred as my neighbour had a 4200 cambricorsa (08 reg) which despite being well maintained threw up a different issue every month . He finally sold it to WBAC and cut his losses.
Brilliant video Lee, and I'm now sold on the car. Been looking at both the Ghibli and the Quattroporte for ages. The usual worries were forefront after some of the TH-cam videos out there (have you seen the Doug Demuro review???). Thanks for putting my mind at rest.
The levante is a totally different vehicle and rock solid. A better used vehicle value..as a mechanic and engine builder for 45 years I can't find fault in mine
Great review Lee. Always had Italian cars and had few issues. Get a good one, do your research, search out the generic parts and they are fantastic value and great fun to drive. I really enjoy your pods.
I have a 64 plate DV6 and park it outside my 'terraced house' - in Liverpool! Still there as no one truly understands what it is 😂 - just go for it, you'll be surprised.
Very interesting take on the Maserati, which as you say have a very bad, perhaps undeservedly, reputation for reliability. It will be interesting to see if your new Maser will turn out to be as reliable as this Ghibli.
Fantastic video, I’ve been waiting for a while for you to talk about your Maserati’s. I’ve had a trouble free Granturismo for the last four years. Every drive is sensational, never had any issues. It’s an exclusive club I’m happy to be part of.
Thanks! I agree and love my ghibli diesel with a good remap 312hp. The hose you mentioned (min 17) from the intercooler/ intake did you order it from Chrysler? Regards from the Netherlands.
Bearing in mind the fact that you have owned and driven the car for so long, as someone who is in the trade, is a testament to the vehicle.

@ silver blue, surprised how tiny it was next to all the modern stuff.
Great advice for a prospective Maserati purchaser, looks and sounds great, enjoy the Quattroporte👍
