    💻💻💻💻💻 Blue Iris (Security Camera Video Management Software): hometechdiy.com/buy-blue-iris/
    Today we’ll look at how to set up your WYZE camera so you can record footage on your PC or Network Video Recorder using RTSP or Real Time Streaming Protocol.
    As you have probably seen, the Wyze cameras have gained a lot of popularity doing to their easy of setup, tiny size and fantastic price point. Wyze is allowing us to take their connectivity a few steps further by opening up the camera’s configuration so we can record our footage on computers or Network Video Records or NVRs or DVRs.
    For me, my computer and NVR stores footage for 10 days. I also like just going to one central location to see all my cameras at once and not have to open multiple apps.
    I’ll show you how to enable this configuration on your Wyze cameras. It’s not something available on the camera when you buy it. I’ll then show how to setup recording footage on Blue Iris. You could use any software that supports RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol), like iSpy or Zoneminder. I’ll then connect my Wyze camera to record on my Hikvision NVR. Lastly, I’ll show how to revert the Wyze cam’s software on the camera to disable the RTSP feature.
    1. In order to use the streaming feature from the Wyze cam, we’ll need to update or flash the camera’s firmware. Wyze cam has 2 versions of the firmware; the regular one that is installed on the camera when you buy it and the RTSP version. Maintaining both firmware versions is a lot of work, so they don’t release as many updates for the less popular RTSP version. To do this firmware switch, we’ll need to download the latest version of the RTSP software. I’ll add a link to this page in the description. (download the zip file, open the downloads folder, open the zip file and copy the firmware, paste it in a new folder on my computer) While I am at it, I’ll download the latest version of the non-RTSP firmware so I can revert back. (Go to that link, download the zip file, open the downloads folder, open the zip file, copy the bin and paste it in a special location)
    Wyze RTSP Firmware: support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/...
    Wyze non-RTSP Firmware: support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/...
    2. To see which version of the Wyze app you are currently running, open the Wyze app, selecting the camera, click the gear icon in the upper right, and scroll down to Device Info. 4.9.5.36
    Let’s jump over to Blue Iris and add the camera to a channel.
    Here is a quick sound quality test. Here is the sound from the app. And the sound through BI. Hardly any difference.
    Using this Hikvision NVR, let’s add the camera to a channel. The NVR is connected to my home network and has an IP address on the same subnet as the camera.
    Here we add the camera to the NVR
    The NVR does not pick up the audio and when I try to see if it’s included in the main video stream, I get a message saying the function isn’t supported. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in a future NVR firmware update.
    Switching the camera’s firmware back to the latest copy of the standard version is the same process. Rename the file, drop it onto a micro SD card and start up the camera. In the app, you cannot just check for updates to get the latest non-RTSP firmware, you have to switch the firmware, then check for updates.

    Tried this whole thing a number of times and never could get it to work. Apparently there was a chipset change in the later model cameras that kills this. I flashed the firmware at least a dozen times and never got it working. Sent them back as they are worthless to me without the ability to connect them to a NAS.

We do not recommend running Cam Plus on the RTSP firmware." and "it is recommended to only use it if you plan to use RTSP full-time".. so can the video stream to the wyze app be disabled? and if so, does it resolve the lag issue and the video jerkiness compared to the normal wyze app video stream?

    Edit: Went ahead and ordered a V3 to test it out with that dafang firmware so we'll find out! :) If not i'll just order a few V2's and wait for the V3 RTSP firmware to become available from wyze

    This is a good video for a poor piece of equipment. The two Wyze Cam 2's and two Wyze Cam 3's can never stay connected to the wireless access point, even when it's positioned 10 feet away! Time to sell them on ebay and buy ethernet cams with POE. It has never became disconnected in 3 years. Nothing beats direct connect.
    Oh, and according to several other users' posts I'm not alone to fighting the battle to keep them connected. 😬

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that nothing beats a hard-wired PoE camera. Does you access point allow you to see interference on different channels/frequencies? The current channel/frequency may be busy with other devices or has interference due to non-wifi devices (cordless phones, microwaves, etc). I had to make changes to my setup to accommodate for poor signal strength. Also does your access point have signal strength settings? I had to lower my access point's strength. Lower power gave me better connectivity but less range. It took some trial and error before finding the perfect balance.

    Also I blocked the flashed wyze cameras ip in my Net-gear router from inet access, lost the “CCP” stream from the Wyze app...and the “local” stream. Unfortunately the flash gave no options to block inet access. While there might be a way to accomplish this, privacy is not a concern at wyze. Sorry if I sound overly concerned but in just a old network engineer that remembers privacy, those days before the “smart” phone (lol).

    Excellent video! If you stream to Blue Iris on your PC, would the mobile app stream come from your PC instead of Wyze servers? If so, how would that affect quality/lag? Keep up the great work!

    • @HomeTechDIY

      Glad you found the video helpful. The mobile app would continue to function as it did before the firmware update, meaning the camera would stream directly to the mobile app. With the update, the camera can now stream to 2 places; the PC and the App. Hope this helps.

    would putting like four of these cameras put a strain on my network?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they should cause congestion on your WiFi or a noticeable impact on your router/network.

    Does this mean I don't need the monthly subscription at all?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      This process will allow you to record your footage to another device and you will need to use this other device to playback the footage. The monthly subscription keeps all your footage accessible through the WYZE app. In short, it's a matter of preference where the footage is stored and accessed.

    I use a rio link system because the cameras work without the internet. I flashed my 2 “public” wyze cameras ( they are called this because the CCP receives the video of my yard ) and was amazed I was still getting wyze notifications even after the flash them. Please include a warnings in the video because the general public is ignorant about security. Although I really like my 2 “public” wyze cameras I don’t consider them as “mine”. The private password and username are worthless and have to be considered compromised by the vendor or whoever hacks them. Best practice is to have a wired security system devoid of inet and a “public” wireless system that is considered hacked the day you enable it ! I enjoyed the procedure and appreciate your sharing but please include security.

      I mean, wifi based cameras can be secured as long as you aren't an idiot with networking and port forwarding.
      Now, if there is not a way to disable cloud connectivity to wyze, then yes, you should not use these cameras inside your house. Outside would be fine with me to be honest.
      In terms of reliability, wired is the way to go, without a doubt.

    anyway that i can block remote access to the camera?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not through the camera's configuration. Maybe via the router. This should help: forums.wyzecam.com/t/is-it-possible-to-livestream-on-lan-only-no-recording-no-cloud/25047/3

      @@HomeTechDIY thanks for the reply. I found a simpler solution: just block the internet access using Access Control or Parental Control via the Router like you suggested. Blocking the ports wouldn't work and a bit more complicated.

    As of March 11 2023, Wyze does not officially support the RTSP firmware for Cam Pan v1 so they do not have it available on their website. It's so sad what Wyze has become after starting out with so much promise.

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's too bad. Sounds like the maintenance of the additional firmware versions were creating a lot of overhead and they were getting a lot of support questions about how to the RTSP functionality.

    Ridiculous. This is consumer dishonesty. They sold a product is needs to work with out an IT EXPERT. THis is very dangerous and not reliable product. When you ask for help they will keep you calling and spend hours a week. I am disappointed after 10 camera purchased. the launched an inferior product. no concern for customer
