    09:36 Update Non-RTSP Firmware
    10:01 Conclusion
    Today, I’ll show you how to enable the RTSP protocol on the WYZE camera V3 so you can view and record footage on your PC. Right off the bat, at the time of recording this video, adding this protocol to your WYZE cam V3 will not enable you to use it on the Hikvision NVR or Reolink’s NVR. If you use Blue Iris however, you’re good to go.
    In order to setup RTSP or the Real Time Streaming Protocol, you’re going to need your WYZE cam V3, access to the cam over the WYZE app, a micro-SD card and a computer or some hardware to get a downloaded file onto that memory card.
    The firmware that comes with the camera doesn’t have this feature enabled. Why install RTSP?
    The main reason for me is because the stream allows for integration into other devices to view the live feed and to record and playback footage. My preferred security camera management software, Blue Iris is my single stop to see and playback all my security cameras. I don’t want to log into a bunch of different apps to see live footage or fiddle with their multiple ways to playback previous recordings. Blue Iris does an excellent job with review play back and I want everything on one screen at the same time. Also, I have an 8TB storage drive which keeps all my footage for a couple weeks and no need to worry about uploading brand specific footage to an App’s cloud or worrying about app subscriptions.
    As they did with the V2 release of the RTSP firmware, I assume WYZE will not be releasing multiple versions of this firmware. There could be another release of the RTSP firmware for the V3 cam but this current version might be it, unless there is a major issue discovered. Developing, testing and supporting 2 firmware versions at the same time is a lot of work. They’ve added this feature for those who will use it as their primary access to the video and audio streams and (like myself) any feature within the app is just secondary.
    Before we proceed, let’s verify our current version. Go to the camera on your WYZE app and click the gear icon. Go to Device Info and note the firmware version. Mine is 4.36.8.15.
    Here are the steps to download and install the RTSP firmware:
    1. Download the V3 RTSP file
    2. Open the zip file and copy the firmware to the root of a Micro SD card
    3. The file doesn’t need to be renamed, like it did for V2
    4. With the camera unplugged, insert the card
    5. While holding the Setup button, plug in the camera
    6. Release the button once the light turns purple
    7. Wait a couple of minutes and once the new firmware is installed go back to the settings page, then advanced setting. You should now see an option for RTSP.
    8. Turn on this setting and give the cam a new username & password. This is not your credentials to your Wyze account. These are new ones for accessing the cam via RTSP.
    9. Click generate for connection string.
    10. Make note of this. Mine is 4.61.0.3.
    Next we test out the stream in VLC media player. There is a 2 second lag here but it works well.
    Next we add the camera to Blue Iris. You can add it using RTSP or the HTTP protocol. The lag is shorter and having this camera in BI is a long awaited feature.
    Next, we’re going to add the camera to my Hikvision NVR. It's also great the hear the audio works in this version of the WYZE cam.
    Long story short. I was not able to get the live feed from the WYZE camera to show on the Hikvision NVR. I added the camera and it appears online but no feed is coming through.
    It’s a similar story with the Reolink NVR. The issue here is that there is nowhere to add in the “/live” path. You can select RTSP as the protocol but the device is unable to find the camera’s stream. It gave me an “Invalid Address” error as soon as I entered any alpha characters in the IP Address field.
    If you need to revert your cam back to the previous version, repeat this process but using the firmware you want to replace it with. That can be found here on the Release Notes & Firmware page under V3.

    Hi Home Tech DIY. Just wanted to say thank you so much for your informative videos. I have 5 wyze cam v3 in total. Using your videos I was able to build myself a cheap Ryzen 2600 based system and now I have it all setup with all the cameras and the footage is being recorded.
    Only issue I ran into was I use Tenda Nova Mesh system and due to this it wasn't picking up my cameras. Perhaps you could make a video showing people the networking side of things with routers/mesh networks on how to set it up, as I had to do a bit of googling to figure it out (ended up having to switch the nova system to 'Bridge Mode' to get Blue Iris to detect the cameras.
    Other than this, again thanks alot. Very informative videos, easy to understand and in depth. I have now subscribed and look forward to more content!
    All the best 👍

      Thanks! Welcome and happy to hear you like the videos. No, I haven't done much with a NAS. I tried one about 7 years ago and the NAS couldn't keep up recording the footage from 10 cameras at once. Not sure if it was due to my configuration, but that's when I decided to move to a dedicated NVR and PC for recording and playing back footage.

    Thanks

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no way to set a static IP address from within the camera itself. The only way to do this is through your router using a DHCP reservation where you reserve an IP address for the camera's MAC address.

    I've been waiting for this on my blue iris since the v3 came out. Great video. I have loaded the firmware on the camera and checked that it is now the updated version and generated the rtsp link and tried it on VLC but it just shows a black screen and the time increments with nothing showing. Can you suggest a way to troubleshoot this? Maybe something like wireshark or such? The camera still shows in the wyze app and the rtsp selection is in advanced settings but vlc doesn't seem to be able to find it like you are saying the hikvision did. My v3 was originally on fw 4.36.0.150. I guess I'll see if there is a newer version and update if possible and then try the rtsp again.

    • @gasconader1150
      @gasconader1150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, I reverted to latest fw and redid it and vlc then gave an error that it couldn't find the stream. Tried it one more time and vlc now sees the stream and everything works like it should. Thank you very much for this video.

    Blue Iris looks great but in light of the problems that wyze has had lately maybe they should continue work on RSTP and PC monitoring software to use with it so we don't have to setup an account and give out personnel info. Regardless, I am going to give this a try. Thank you.

    this wasn't working with my v3. following the instructions here (and in the wyze support article) when booting with the .bin file on the SD and holding setup, the camera announces "ready to connect" but does not reflash the firmaware. I had to replace the SD card that had been in the camera with a fresh one with *only* the RTSP firmware. then it re-flashed. but never came back up. the purple light came on, then the red flashes. I had to un-plug, re-plug holding setup and run through re-adding the camera back to the app.

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I read a while back that WYZE updated the firmware to prevent people from flashing the firmware, but apparently that was removed. I wonder if your camera had that older version. Also, if the Micro SD card 32gig or less? I found that it needed to be formatted it with a computer as FAT32. (Don't use Quick Format). I recently bought a couple new V3's and updated the firmware and then flashed them. I did have to try a couple times. I just assumed that my finger slipped on the setup button, or I held the button for too long. In the end, after a few tries, I was able to get the RTSP firmware on there but ended up totally factory resetting the devices. Not sure if this helps.

      @@HomeTechDIY thanks for the follow-up. in the end I got it working. I think the downgrade in FW causes problems with artifacts left by newer FW. the Wyze app has some trouble connecting with the older FW and the network stability isn't as good (app kept timing out). BUT the rtsp interface, once setup, is working!

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The may be some differences in the app. The firmware is a little old and newer features may not be supported or may function a little differently. If I recall correctly, they were minor and worth the switch.

    So lets say camera is plugged off or not connected to internet. Then it wont record right?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure what 'plugged off' means, but the camera actually connects to WiFi on your local network and not the Internet directly. The local network is connected to the Internet. If there Internet connection is off, the camera will use RTSP on the local network and continue to stream to any device on the network. So, if there is no Internet, the camera will still record to an NVR or stream. If the camera is not connected to WiFi, then no other devices on the network will pick up the stream. If the camera has a micro-SD card, it doesn't need a WiFi connection to record footage. Hope this helps.
