Great review. My wife and I bought these bikes this winter and had a blast riding them on the snow. The Shimano Deore 1x10 shifter and derailer have worked perfectly even when caked in mud. We get a lot of ice on the trails in our area so I upgraded to 45NRTH studded tires which are fantastic. I also put on 170mm cranks with a smaller chainring which makes it easier to climb hills especially when the snow is deeper. Even with the added cost of a few upgrades theses bikes are excellent value.

Unbelievable value for the money. Thank you for sharing! 3 years but only about 2,000 miles on mine same thing, only regular maintenance required (same as bikes 8x the cost). Couldn't be happier with it! Have a good one, Rubin!
Noticed on Costco website last Saturday. Regular price is $449. A promo dropped the price to $349. Promo ended that night. Just before midnight, I pulled the trigger. I turned 53 a few months ago. Just looking for a fun way to become more active and drop a few pounds. Currently 6ft and 232lbs. Least expensive starter bike in a local bike shop is over $800. My very limited research says this should be ideal for my needs. Certainly hope so. I've yet to unbox it. I know nothing about putting bikes together and swapping out parts/components. Hopefully it will be simple and I wont need to swap out anything. Will post an update in a few months.
I think you made a great choice Charles! For that price you can’t go wrong. With all the instruction videos on TH-cam now bike maintenance is pretty easy these days and you can learn as you need to. It’s pretty easy to put together and doesn’t require too much tinkering except for the brakes. An honest bike shop could help you dial it in real nice for around $50 as well. Enjoy! I look forward to you progress update thank you for your comment!
Thank you for the review. Quick Question... do you know if the handlebars on the North rock can be raised. That's a big issue for me, I don't like hunching down all the time. The first thing I did with my summer mountain bike is order some handlebar raisers from Amazon. Again, thanks for the review. I spotted this bike at Costco, but wasn't really sure if this would serve as a good 'first fat bike'. Looks like it might fit the bill, provide a good winter work out on the trails.
Hi Paul thank you for the comment and for watching. Being taller I'm with you on the hunch situation. Fat biking in the snow is more work so hunching for an hour was tolerable for me, but on other bikes I do what you spoke of and got a longer stem. I'm sure you could buy one for these too, I couldn't raise the handle bars more than half an inch on mine. Giant manufactures these bikes so I'd try to go with one from them, most likely an easy fit. Hope that helps!
Speaking to the quality for the money it's a great first fat bike. I've been cycling a long time and have ridden this one over 2500km in winter, spring and over the summer. All the components are holding up well, my only complaint is the brakes but for the money you can't go wrong. Cheers
Hey man, thanks for your review. Really appreciate it, just but the bike and was wondering if the brakes were defective in mine. I know you said that they can be adjusted, but would you just replace them altogether
Hi Luis thank you for the comment! Honestly if you can I'd just replace them altogether. The ones that came with both of ours are still driving me nuts. I adjust them on both bikes constantly, after every ride it's like they need to be realigned or they rub and squeak and create some rolling resistance. Sounds like it's a pretty common problem and after doing a lot of research most people just swap out the caliper and pads. That's probably what I'll be doing fairly soon as well. Hope that helps man! Other than the brakes these bikes are sweet. We've got about 1500km on ours now and still loving them. Have a good one man!

Nice! It’s ok in the summer but where it really shines is in snow and slush imo. If you flip your bike upside down or pick each tire up individually they should spin freely with no resistance.
