  • A thrilling matchup between Mono Black and The Deck. Who will win?
    Special thanks to Lukas for having such an amazing game together.
    Disclaimer: using proxy decks in order to test the metagame thoroughly.
    - Mono Black (original deck)
    - The Deck (proxy deck)
    I own the cards to build the decks, perhaps some of them in different expansions. But I don't have enough copies to build two decks at the same time.

    A great match! The Deck was just too much for the mono black to handle. Great channel. Subscribing now!

      @@mtgoldschoolworld1460 Hmmm... probably land destruction, which I don't really see a lot of discussion about. That's what I played a lot of back in the 90's. I haven't really played any Old School since then, but this year, I've been buying back into the Old School cards that I had sold off, so I'm itching to get some Old School games in soon if possible. For now, I'm scratching the itch by watching your videos and others. :)

    Has anyone ever played The Deck against a Tier 2 standard deck? Even having Power available in Old School, the level of threats and answers is so powercrept nowadays.

      @Rorschachqp 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know about The Deck but there are many decks that would destroy Tier 1 Standard decks. UW Permission may be a bit too slow and it would all depend on the draw on Swords and drawing to 4 mana for Moat/Wrath/The Abyss, etc. However, most people who play 94-ish formats now, like 99.9% content on TH-cam, play it wrong and instead you get this slow, plodding format that looks weakass with people running stuff like Mishra's Factory. The original The Deck is slow but runs 4x Power Sink, which most 94 players don't even get.

    guys guys,,, you are making me cry right now.... i have had to sell 3 major collections in my life to pay for bad times... beyond the money, the game is so diluted now and there is no art in the cards. this brings me back so hardcore... i will be watching all content that is magic when it was a war, not decided in 1-2 turns

    • @mtgoldschoolworld1460
      @mtgoldschoolworld1460  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is also the kind of games we love. We usually play control or midrange and every decision feels so important. Games that are decided in the first two turns feel not so exciting ☺️

      There are plenty of formats where the games don't end in 1-2 turns. I started playing magic since 1996 and still enjoy it to this day and I play Modern where games can end between turns 2-3. Trashing the game for its evolution just makes you look salty

    Unfortunately no MonoB deck in the mid-range could ever hope to fight an endless stream of removal and counter magic from Weissman. I am impressed from the MonoB player trying his best but it was just not going to happen. it would be a miracle for that deck to beat Weissman. Sadly.

    GG why no Mind Twist? Also, the Hippies are really good against the Deck, I would also add 2x Greed.

    • @mtgoldschoolworld1460

      Thank you!
      I think the main reason why Lukas doesn't play a Mind Twist or Hypnotics is because they would be anti-synergistic with the Black Vises and the prison strategy. The cards are super strong by themselves anyway, so i get your point :)
      I would also recommend the 2x Greed! That's another amazing card :)

      Because the guy who built this deck picked the wrong color/s for his strat. Mono-black was not even tier 3 in 94 but, if built correctly, was a solid casual deck. This mono black is wtf.

    • @vedounamanicadimasochisti
      @vedounamanicadimasochisti 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Rorschachqp I assume it goes all-in into accelerating for a heavy 4 drop into nether void. Then, it also tries to deal extra-damage with Black Vises. Can you imagine post-sideboard games with 4 Gloom and 4 Nether Void? That's very hard for white, I don't think The Deck can deal with that if this monoblack variant does what it's supposed to do.

      Other than early, unanswered The Abyss.

    • @Rorschachqp
      @Rorschachqp 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vedounamanicadimasochisti I know what he's trying to do. I played tournaments in 94-95 when tournament rules became somewhat standardized. Mono black was either casual (Icy, Royal, Sengir, Imp, etc.) or mono black weenie (budget tournament deck, get scrubbed out 2nd round). Only when Hymn To Tourach was printed in FE did mono black become seriously dangerous. Discard is the best strat for black, not Nether Void.

    15:30 Why did the abyss get destroyed due to the nether void? 15:50 Why did casting an abyss destroy the nether void?

    • @mtgoldschoolworld1460
      @mtgoldschoolworld1460  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is due to the "Enchant World" rule. There can only be one Enchant World in play at any time. So if there is any existing one when you cast a second, the earlier gets destroyed. The Abyss and Nether Void are both Enchant Worlds. So every time one it's played, it replaces the previous one, regardless of the player who owns it

    You definitely need a lot of work on playing The Deck. You disenchanted a black vise you were already under. You sideboarded in red blasts or are playing them main deck. You are playing lightning bolt? You don't shuffle your hand after drawing with the Tome, giving away that you drew the Mishra's. You attacked with the Mishra's without a lock, and no counterspell in hand...
    So much wrong...
