    I can't begin to explain how much I hate touch controls on everything. Why do manufacturers think that's a good idea? Why not just replace the steering wheel with a touch screen while you're at it.

      I agree, this is for the GLE buyer that doesn’t want to be the center of attention or at least doesn’t want others to envy them. However, I always quite liked the Tuareg bcs even tho understated, it always had it’s own identity. This looks like Atlas and Tiguan had a baby, and most of identity is in my opinion lost.

    My parents have a first gen VW Touareg and it still runs like new. It's great for long drives, has amazing acceleration for overtaking and is suprisingly very capable off road, especially given that my parents live in Kenya and have taken that car to some of the most remote places, fording through rivers and not once has it ever stalled or broken down. The only drawback is fuel consumption, but all in all, the Touareg is one of the best SUVs you can get out there if you want style, practicality and capability without the overinflated price tag of a Range Rover.

    condensation: when reported as a fault, on a Skoda Octavia (2021), it was explained (in the service), that this isn't a bug, but a feature. in order to match the external atmospheric pressure, VAG headlights have "breather holes" (similarly to airline double/triple sheet windows). as long as the condensation is on the surface, like a misty layer, it's ok. the heat of the headlights should evaporate them and it'd not cause any damage. but if the water/condensation amount turns into a "puddle" in the headlights (or any lights for that matter), it needs to be addressed and it's probably the result of a crack (and not just the breather hole).
    this was a Skoda Service explaining this issue.

    • @Artemisfo
      @Artemisfo ปีที่แล้ว +12

      same for me at the VW dealership. When the droplets started to finally form, the car was still under the warranty, they said that they found micro fractures or a number of them and these started to cause the issue. I have had my front lights fogging up from the moment i drove off the dealership after i took the delivery of my car in late 2018... they said i am to blame for the cracks/fractures even though the headlamps were not damaged, did not have any signs of any accidents, not to mention i have never had a front collision what so ever. great service

    • @omerta2002
      @omerta2002 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This can be the cause for some 'condensation' issues. If it corrects itself after a few minutes or is not an issue at higher temps, your golden, if it persists, it's clearly a fault.

    Honestly I don't mind the new styling because at the end of the day it is subjective to your personal taste. However what bugs me most about the new Touareg is that it strayed so far from what VW intended it to be when it first launched: a very comfortable, luxurious but must importantly CAPABLE off road vehicle. I considered a previous gen Touareg for purchase and it hat low range, rear and center lockers and you could even disconnect the sway bars. Saw many reviews online and it's off road capability was so underrated. Sadly VW went a different route with the newer gens and now they're thinking just upsizing the Tiguan will make the cut. Kind of bums me out because it used to be a serious contender to Land Rover and even some of the japanese off roaders like the Pajero and such. Seems the Touareg has lost it's identity.

The Q5 has buttons and switches for aircon and several other key functions that are far easier to use the touchscreen ones. And thankfully doesn't have the soft touch capacitive buttons on the steering wheel which are awful!

    People complain about VW's haptic buttons on the steering wheel. After driving our VW ID. for a year, I've come to appreciate the haptic buttons. Their main advantage is swiping. You don’t need to look down or fidget when you swipe. Simplicity. It took me by surprise when I realized how swiping works on the steering wheel. It’s very intuitive. When you need to adjust ACC cruising speed or sound volume or skip songs, you just swipe your thumbs across the middle of those panels , effortless - no need to look down or find the right buttons. It’s a pity those buttons are misunderstood. Coupled with AR-HUD, you never need to take your eyes off the road.

      @@Enko063 Interesting, just checked and not to my surprise the Q7 has a smaller boot capacity of 740ltr vs Toureg at 810. ‘Luxury’ difference is subjective. Agree that Audis brand is stronger because of very effective marketing. That is my point, you pay £15k more for a badge. I like Audi, but was shocked at just how far the manufacturers are pushing the price of their premium brands - too far in my opinion. But we are all different.

    • @simonc3911
      @simonc3911 ปีที่แล้ว

      Completely agree that the Q7 is not in any meaningful way more luxurious than the Touareg, and that anyway will be greatly affected by how you spec the car, such that a fully loaded Touareg will feel more luxurious than a Q7 with no optional extras. And a point to note on that is that there are optional extras that are available on the Touareg but not on the Q7, such as Nightvision and the All-Wheel steering that only comes as standard on the top Q7 Vorsprung model - you can’t get it as an option on the other Q7 models. Audi it seems playing the same marketing game as BMW with respect to the Integral Active Steering on the X5 - the 2024 LCI (facelift) - that in the UK at least only coming as standard on the M60i - not available as an option on the M Sport or xDrive models despite that the IAS option still appears on the UK configurator but is not selectable, which is just messing people about in my view - where has their respect for customers gone?! Hence I am now buying a Touareg Black Edition TDI 286 hp (fully loaded) not an X5, and with discount including hefty VW manufacturers deposit contribution (with BMW only modest dealer discount available) the Touareg comes out at about £20,000 less than an equivalently specced X5 3.0d! As for Audi Q7, that is a good car and I did consider the Vorsprung model but would not ever need 7 seats - rather have the additional space under the boot floor for a spare wheel, which I need to have when towing, but which Audi can’t supply for the Q7 (there’s no room for it) whereas it a factory fitted option for the Touareg.

    Fron the Philippines here. I'm a volkswagen enthusiast. I drive a restored 1971 superbeetle as a daily driver in Tacloban City, Leyte. At the height of the covid pandemic May 2021, I bought a 2004 3.2 gasoline engine Vr6 VW Touareg. I was a low mileage import from California. The car had issues which my mechanic solved by replacing with genuine parts. In my own honest opinion, first generation Touareg was the best in terms of looks, luxury, and off road capability. The first generation Touareg was muscular looking and the body styling was conservative and the lines had that flowing classic look. I hope that the first generation touareg will become a classic. The one I have is a solid car and I feel safe inside considering that it is almost 20 years old.. The new generation has lost it's distinctive VW look. Unless you look at the logo you will not know that it's a VW. I hope that VW will go back to the concept of the original touareg. Just sharing my thoughts.

I've had to upsize a few times, as the potholes are so bad, but my current 3-ton behemoth just glides over the worst road surfaces in Europe like they're not there. Brilliant! Don't have to think about them any more.
    Of course, when my 3-ton SUV "glides" over those potholes and broken surfaces, it leaves them just a little bit worse. But I don't care - I'm alright, Jack. This is Britain! Someone else can deal with it for me.

      It's like that in the US as well. Automakers back in the 20th century made sedans, and hatchbacks with a lot of ground clearance.
      Now they are all trying to be as low and impractical as possible. It's baffling how Automakers think we all live in areas with pristine flat roads. Even if your roads are good, if you life in a area with hills or mountains you can hit something on roads connecting to each there at different angles.
      You can be careful but after driving a car for years or thousands of miles mistakes will happen.
      Not all crossovers are much better but the ones that are make it a no brianer. Plus the plastic cladding being hit doesn't look as bad as the painted metal.
      I would like a lifted up station wagon. But will probably go for a crossover or suv for my next car.
