- The Aussie Ford Territory was one of the most popular SUVs when it was on sale largely due to it being powered by the Barra six cylinder engine. This is the AWD version so it's the perfect platform for a sleeper style build project. We follow Tony from Michael Js & Son as he gives the old family Territory a much needed overhaul from front to back as well as a much needed turbo upgrade.

I’ve always loved the Territory, definitely something that Ford should’ve persisted with as I think it would be popular in today’s market of SUVs like it. 👍🏻

I would love to have that one of those here in the US, i have several 5.0 explorers 1 is a 2wd but they are everywhere here so i want a plain NA Barra SUV with a sweet interior like that

I’m shocked. I can’t believe I’m watching another fantastic video from FullBoost because that guy from Benchtalk said the channel was finished.
Not only was there the Ghia and the F6X Luke, but there is a STANDARD Territory Turbo aswell without the luxury seats and stuff. I have already seen atleast half a dozen different ones over the years, including an old next door neighbour who explained it all to me. Most I've seen were in shockwave blue, but I've also seen a black and a maroon one. 👍

I have a standard '06 Silhouette black turbo with cloth seats.
The SZ 6 speed auto non turbo is a nice car to drive. The 6 speed really wakes up the sleepy old Barra.
The wife said it was too slow!

I have a factory 2006 ford territory turbo non ghia there weren’t many non ghia and they have in my opinion a better seat option with sporty alcantara seats instead of the leather. Has 245KW turbo Barra from factory they make wicked power with a tune injectors and front mount intercooler. They came factory AWD with zf 6 speed and they also had the bf turbo rods and pistons very good platform for some solid power!!! From factory there not a slug either but you definitely feel the weight still. All turbo territory’s including the F6X came with a bung in one of the factory exhaust pipes after cat which is quite restrictive once removed the turbo spools quicker and pulls a lot harder with some fuel savings aswell.
We had a similar version here in South Africa with leather ghia trim , 18 inch alloys and was called the ST. I still own one. I removed the bung and quickly realized that it had to go back in. This motor needs a tune after its removed. Awesome turbo spool.

Bought wifey a AWD territory for the young fella and more spacious car for prams etc
Over all it’s a pretty good car
Aside from some quirky things like the ignition barrel not springy back on start up and having to manually doing that it drives pretty well and the air con is super cold
Not a bad thing to drive and pretty comfortable
I've got a 2006 Ghia Turbo and I reckon it's a POS. Very low kays for age it drives well, plenty of power. I can wholeheartedly say if it wasn't for that engine, Zf tranny and AWD system the rest of it reminds me of buying a loaf of bread expecting to be able to eat it but it still needs more baking.
The steering buttons aren't backlit, the fuel flap & lock buttons are in a position you can't see, the 'Premium' sound system is utter junk even by standards of the era, the pedal adjustment gears are striped, the steering column adjustment is there for looks since there's no meaningful range, the high beam dip requires pushing the stalk with the back of your hand (which I find ridiculous) and then there's the rattles, the blendshaft in the A/C, the bonnet release cable the door trim and tailgate rattles - oh did I mention the rattles. This is my first Ford and I bought one with a genuine 156,000kms on it and I can say compared to other makes of the era it is completely outclassed. FFIK why people love them. A very average car - bland and mundane.
I mean owning it is like seeing the potential in a relationship that never ever be realized for one reason or another.
When these came out, Wheels lined one up against the BMW X5 and the Territory drew about level.
With a car 3-4 times the price.
When they put the diesel in them, they went with the shit-arse 2.7 litre single-turbo 140kW 440Nm gutless heap of shit. What they should have done was drop the Jaguar 3.0 twin turbo 202kW 600Nm diesel in them and owned the entire family SUV market with ease.
I think I speak for everyone who counts when I say " All Barras all the time, big chooching, low revving, bad sounding, V8 humiliating, send it 9's for less than a family trip to Ulladulla, no brakes on the barra train".

As a barra swapped AU owner, I'm so tempted to use stock turbo set up on my rwd 2014 territory. Since the SZ Terrys weren't ever a turbo petrol.
The RWD Terry diffs are insanely tuff

I had a 2 wheel drive territory brand new it was a pretty good car but I ended up getting a bf wagon instead, the wagon is a bit longer and once the seats are folded down you can fit so much more in it. I wonder if you could put the awd parts on a wagon that would be a pretty cool machine.

I found with my awd box is that if you leave the front half locked up it'll slowly burn out the transfer case, for what ever reason the front part is also the lubrication process as well, if that stops working you'll end up burning it out, I ended up changing my gear box to a rwd one, and if you're wondering why i didnt just use the auto from the awd, the output shaft on the awd gearbox doesn't have a threaded shaft where the rwd box does, you need that if you're going to be reusing the front tail shaft from a rwd falcon and the rear half of the awd territory, at least that's what i found on mine
Yep if you are going to do a turbo swap . Best to just have the 2 wd version.

@@plumbs7199 wish i wrote down exactly what we did, biggest issue was a gearbox mount, no where would sell us on separately from a 2wd box as the mount points on a awd box are different
@Deathbase The transfer case has planetary gear in with chain drive which is why it will roast itself if the front wheels are locked for an extended period of time. As for the ZF not having a threaded shaft (pretty sure you mean splines) on the output shaft, it does as that's how the transfer case connects to it except it's obviously shorter because transfer case...
You should have just welded the planetary and be done with it if you wanted rwd.

The boys down at maxx performance were the first guys to weld up a transfer case for rwd dyno work
I was hoping we'd hear what the mod is, but I guess it's a bit secret squirrel! 😪
If your going to do something do it properly. Love the fact he's doing it better than a stock upgrade
What can be done with the front diff and driveshafts??
When I made my territory awd I kept the chain in, so that I would then go awd again by just putting the front shaft in
Also as it’s what lubricates the internals, splash oil type thing

Since its the lion V6 you can easily get the twin turbo from the range rover and convert it to a TT. they left the holes and everything on the diesels as is. Minus the turbo housing. I looked into it myself. I Ended up with a rebuilt turbo from GCG and custom intake/ downpipe turbo exhaust and a tune, must say it pulls like a freight train now with 700 nm of torque and almost 200kw atw
