The Aussie Ford Territory was one of the most popular SUVs when it was on sale largely due to it being powered by the Barra six cylinder engine. This is the AWD version so it's the perfect platform for a sleeper style build project. We follow Tony from Michael Js & Son as he gives the old family Territory a much needed overhaul from front to back as well as a much needed turbo upgrade.

I've got black Ghia Territory, all the suspension work has been done on it , 20 simmonds, sitting on its guts , now I just need to find a turbo engine to put in it lol , awesome video guys .
Just out of curiosity, I notice when people tune or turbo a Falcon/Territory Turbo they don't think to add in an ignition cut between shifts to save the transmission. Is it not possible to do this? We can hear it is obviously struggling to lock up as it shifts. If he wanted to extend the life of the trans it would be a relatively cheap thing to do. No hate towards the build at all, just genuinely curious.
From what I understand, the factory ECU has torque limiters in place. As this engine would easily exceed this torque under full power, the in gear (WOT) limiter is lifted. However, this isn't the only limiter. There is a shift torque limiter as well. Once the shift is completed, the torque is allowed back.
In this case, the ECU gets confused between the two torque limiters, pulls timing and throttle, and slurrs the shift.
As I have researched, removing the shift torque limiter sharpens the shift, but kills the clutch packs as the ZF from the Turbo is only designed for 600Nm. From memory, they make 480Nm factory, so grabbing an extra 120Nm from a Turbo 4.0L is very easy.
Either way, a built gearbox is the only solution for reliability with more speed.

I'm going to be working on a turbo territory this year, so this series has been great.
I would buy the 'We Love the 90's' merch, as I own an EL XR8. (So I'll probably still get some)
But it doesn't have a body kit, spoiler, sunroof or "sharkfin" wheels lol.
Also, missed opportunity with the colour scheme, the side strip on the EL should be pink, a problem all EF/EL XR owners, with 'Red' strips, know all too well.
You should make some vids on your territory build I'll be interested to see it through. 👍
I had a good friend of mine build his EL XR6 turbo, he re painted the side trims in candy apple red and they looked the part.
My old EF XR6 is going from white to green from the moss 😥 and the trim is looking worse for wear.

I love the build and I love the series of vids on it but geeze Louise zf boxes are trash, you can tell which car running down the strip has a zf because it sounds like a singer trying to audition for crap gearboxes have talent and show their whole vocal range from top to bottom in each gear like a mechanical Christina Aguilera lol
Love a nice sleeper. Strange heads up though, had an SR a while ago and some scum left it on blocks taking the back wheels with multiple further attempts all the time I owned it... turns out the SR wheels (SR1 specifically) are stupidly rare or something and it's easier just being a karnt and flogging someone elses.
Should I ask my dad to put a turbo in the territory? 👀

Surely the pod filter would be sucking some hot air from the engine bay? Especially with the hot humid conditions. Cool build, it’s been great watching the progress.
Isn't that what an intercooler is for? But yes hard to make a box without moving the battery.
