Brother trust me I get your reason into wanting this figure. I dealt with depression in high school as well and action figures and transformers were literally the only thing that made me happy. No matter how this figure turned out, I’m glad you finally own it. And thank you for sharing your story.
I also used media, like shows and movies to escape the consistent cycle of frustration in a harsh place. Hopefully things get better for me and everyone else.
Back in middle school my reading teacher went out of his way to buy me a dark of the moon Mudflap. Not a good toy by any stretch of the imagination but the fact he did that just for me made that toy a holy grail for me. So I feel you dude...the difference between you and me is if I could go back I would
I think partly people hate on it because it was disappointing. A new chapter of the movies with new designs and a whole new aesthetic. Especially coming after the complexity of rotf and the balance of simple and satisfying from dotm it’s definitely a step down
Well what he said is true. Hasbro was getting complaints out the ass over the complexity of even DotM figures. That's why they do the two separate toylines nowadays (Studio Series and mainline) because they can give collectors more detailed figures and give kids simple stuff.
@@zuttoaragi8349 that's true. I think aoe was understandable but a clear overcompensation. You can see with tlk that while not all the figures where hits, we got some amazing figures like pretty much ll the voyagers. I think tlk struck a pretty good balance. I think the modern mainline vs generations approach works great aswell.
That's a lovely and valid reason to want a toy. It's great to realize that other people who share similar hobbies/likings to me also have emotional ties to these things. As a kid I got a lot of knock-off toys at local flea markets. While they were horrible, nowadays I actually have the urge to get knock-off toys just because they remind me of those times when my biggest worry was getting the newest and coolest toy.
I think the hate comes from the change of design as well, we got evasion prime that was like what we all wanted from the start and then this, which had no truck part in the robot mode, weak toy with all in the back, excessive and over the top truck etc... all that combined made that figure look like an anomaly, a Ko kind of figure, and didn't help the design as well. Rise of the dark spark didn't help either.
A redesign couldve been cool, but they shouldnt have deviated from the design all that much. They made him more humanoid and it barely had any vehicle parts. It just didnt look like optimus prime
@@TACTIK00L completely agree on that, but that wouldn't have necessarily be a bad thing, a knight robot is a brilliant idea, but it just stopped looking like it could transform, removing 95% of what makes transformers designs cool
A simple mod to make this figure stellar is to simply remove the backpack (I believe it can be done by removing the pin or so). This does essentially make Prime a partsformer, but he looks a lot better, more proportional and more poseable. Throw on a custom paintjob (I painted the sword, picked out some details on the body, and added some weathering) and he becomes a solid looking figure
Age of extinction is special to me because it was the first transformers movie I saw in theaters. Some of the toys hold a special place in my heart. 2014 concept camaro bumblebee is my favorite, but the blue windshields on mine broke, so I had to get the tlk rerelease.
totally get where you're coming from with why you wanted this. I myself was going through a pretty tough breakup when I managed to get Black apple's mpm prime and it actually made my whole week since the bayverse prime was my whole childhood. Enjoy the figure my dude and I hope you're doing much better nowadays!
1:41 you did not just call my boy Alternity Convoy bad. That thing is awesome! Also that’s Alternity Convoy you put on screen. GT-R Convoy is different.
Thanks for sharing the story about your high school experience. I always find it interesting to hear why people collect toys, comics... anything really. It's cool to think that something positive came out from a negative experience. Certain figures in my collection are important to me, but not like this. Glad you picked Transformers, because your reviews are really well done! Looking forward to the next one!
His reason for wanting the figure, hit me right in the feels bc my cousin got me the Netflix soundwave on the day I graduated. And she knew first hand how much high school made me stress out
Appreciate your openness about why you wanted the figure, it takes strength to admit that, and just makes me respect you more. And I'm not sure if you realise it, but I think most of us are here for YOU, not because of the toys that you choose to review. You've reviewed some awful figures for sure, but I come here because I like hearing your story, thoughts and POV on something that others may probably feel differently about. I just relate to you in lots of ways; I love toys, Transformers, Marvel, the Raimi Spider-Man films, I'm a smartphone nerd, and I'm brown 😂 So it's awesome to see a brother make a big name for himself in the community and on this platform. High school was interesting for me too, exams made me feel the same way. I would do so well throughout the school year and in practice exams, but real exams had a weird effect on me and I'd not score as highly as I should've, even if I was one of the smarter ones in my classes. That shot with the 3 trucks in the semi circle is so good! I'm Captain Broface on Twitter and Malgus_Prime on Insta, so if you ever see any comments from those accounts there, itsa me!
I’m glad you finally got the figure, I personally would never get it as it wouldn’t scale well with the collection I got going now. But it seems like a decently fun figure at least. It’s cool to here about your high school experiences and I’m glad you’ve made it through alright.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I can COMPLETELY relate to different Transformers figures and/or toylines being associated with incidents or episodes in childhood related to depression and/or other mental health circumstances. For me, characters like Starscream or G1 Onslaught have similar associations. W/o getting too much into it, I literally cried when I got Coronation Starscream recently, because the base figure (w/o all the armor) color scheme and molding reminded me sooo much of my Pretender Starscream back in the day when I used to have it, which was there for me in some DARK times in my childhood. Anyway, very happy you found what you were looking for in that figure (even though it by itself is kinda poop😄)!
AoE gave us one of the best Movie Primes ever made (Evasion Mode Prime.) and the worst one (This guy.) I think the problem about the AoE knight-style Primes is that the new knight-style design is over-complicated, and the toys were made to be simpler. Maybe if they still had engineering like the ones from ROTF, we could've gotten a good Leader Knight Optimus Prime. But it isn't really the toy's fault that the designs are overtly sleek and really hard to make into a good toy.
I guess all of us collectors have one or a few figures that they really wish to have because they got a memory from childhood with it. I'm really glad you were able to get him! :D
When I got my version of this toy during my birthday party (Silver Knight Platinum Edition Optimus Prime) it was when I really hated school to the point that I just started failing it out of boredom and distraction: drawing and Transformers interested me more than maths and whatnot. Every single time I got back home and got to play with my Silver Knight OP I felt so much better and it just made all my worries go away. I still have it to this day and I even have it with me right now as I'm typing this; this figure means a lot to me and the shitty childhood I had.
1:41 damn, you just unlocked hidden memories to another toy review channel from years ago that liked to hate on the snowballs as a running gag, even though he was sponsored by them iirc. Can't remember who it was. Edit: Found the video I was talking about. It was Emgo316, and he wasn't sponsored, he just said that they're never going to sponsor him because of it. My bad.
It’s a fun toy that has meaning to you, so I appreciate this video. Personally I sort of like the second leader class figure that came out for this movie….well the Takara Tomy Armor Knight Optimus Prime. Beautiful paint applications and a swap able face! I see that you have the Nemesis Prime one. Nice!
I was about to sell mine … until this Video that is. The chrome is tacky as Ffuuuhhhh. Great review! Thank you for what you do! Brings my day some joy!
I kinda know how you feel. There are absolutely awful figures that I like a lot. Like that ss01 Bumblebee, some people hate it to the point of hammering it to pieces, but it the old camero bee was my first introduction to the character and into transformers in general.
The non-standard peg holes are definitely a pain. I was one of the poor saps that actually got the Silver Knight repaint of this toy (I did get it on sale, though) and I've been spending this past month adding more paint apps all over his body to make him look more finished. I also decided he needed the triple-barrel cannon that he had in the 4th and 5th films, but because of his massive size and abnormally large hand holes, I had to commission an eBay seller who supplies third party upgrade kits to upsize his model for the AOE/TLK cannon and make me a one-off version. It was a great addition to my figure and definitely helps give him a more "complete" appearance, but it's a little sad that I had to go the extra mile to make it happen. (I also got the gun to "stow" on the truck by shoving it into that giant gaping hole in the back of the truck between the two triple rows of smokestacks.)
I think the hate stems from the fact that the ROTF and DOTM (almost) lines have hit it straight out of the park; balancing screen accuracy and transformation sophistication. The AOE line was shifted more to cater to the younger audiences who can't handle 30+ steps of transformations. This, if thinking about its intent, was actually really good. But for the mature market that the line has spoiled, it was a shell-former with an addiction to chrome. There's also the fandom wanting a more sleek design for the movies rather than robots created by piling junks on top of each other; becoming a nightmare for the toy designers/engineers, but that's another discussion. Also, I think the first almost screen accurate Prime was done by Alien Attack and not Unique Toys.
I have a similar connection between high school and AoE. Back when I was in 8th grade (8th grade is considered part of high school in my country), I still hadn’t adjusted to the atmosphere of high school and I got really nervous and anxious a lot. AoE came out on the first week of classes and my family saw it first day. I didn’t think the movie was good but I did want to at least get a toy before we went home. I initially wanted either this or voyager Galvatron, but my parents said they were a little too much so I got Drift. To this day he is the only AoE figure I own, but I still have a fondness for it. I’ve been thinking of getting one of the AoE Optimus figures recently, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for a decently priced one.
that....that end part i think i got some rust in my eyes. anyways on a serious note buying bots was theraphy and doing my own stories helped me out during my awkward jr high years an high schol
I have a certain soft spot for this mold. I've had approximately 3 knockoffs of the mold, and loved each one of them. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. If I'm going to get one of this, I'll try to get the Silver Knight re-deco, cuz I love the colour.
The main reason this figure and the other release of this design get hated on so much is because evasion mode prime really set everyone’s expectations high… and said expectations are DEFINITELY not met so be default it was and will always be seen as the inferior AOW figure to most. But you did make some interesting points about this figure and why you wanted it! (Also combiner wars prime is far from being a bad figure. Not perfect but it’s still loads of fun. I got him back in the day and I still love em.)
I got this guy as a Christmas gift awhile ago, so I have a bit of a soft spot for him. He's not too bad, has his flaws but still fun to mess about with. Currently he's standing on the top of my shelf alongside some other figures. Also with the rotf preview wave, it wasn't just Bumblebee, there was also a soundwave in that wave.
I still have this Leader Prime figure and even though I have no problems with his robot or truck mode, his transformation is still not that easy for me no how simplistic it is and it still feels like he's gonna snap.
I remember my little cousin had this in 2014 and I remember hating it so much lol. I remember the torso wouldn't tab in securely so it's body would just fall out of the back kibble constantly
I feel like the designers knew that TLk was coming out not too long after and knew the design wasn’t going to change much so shelved the better mould for the second film and as you say were then stuck with a a deadline to meet.
A underrated figure in my opinion. Was prolly Hasbro setting a small deadline which is why this figure is less then great, bit bad though. Also glad you did this instead of the video that prolly would of been rushed
I just happened to find like 5 of these in a store in Vaughn mills next to an anniversary beast machines optimus primal with the transmetal 2 deco, also they had some vehicle mode only rotf missile thing starscream and ss rotf starscream
While this figure might not be the best, I think the reason behind getting this guy outweighs any ill will for it. Love your stuff, keep making videos man.
I'll never understand people's hatred of high school. I mean, I spent my high school years actively watching my mom wither away and die, and I'd still take that over my life now.
got this figure for my birthday back then,it was before the movie was release and i was super hyped for the film and everything in my life was about TF,fond memories and apparently the one i got was directly imported from China due to the shopowner came from China(btw my figure is genuine),these days the figure looks horrible for me but it reminded me of a better time when i dont have to worry about money and jobs etc. :)
3:40 i will NEVER forgive the parents who complained. It is not the toy's fault that YOUR child couldn't figure out how to transform it When your kid is frustrated you can't just call the manager I was tiny when i figured out ROTF prime Played with it until it broke

The black Takara repaint of the other Leader Prime has maybe the best paint-job on an official figure.
Age of extinction is one of those movies, that the movie is decent but the figuers look nothing like the characters, yes the vehicle modes look good and thats it
This movie was the first movie I got to see it’s midnight premiere of and I have so much nostalgia for this toy bc it was the first exclusive anything I ever got I still I’ve it to this day but sadly mine was damaged during a flood and while cleaning it to ensure it didn’t develop mold the joints rusted and the Crome disintegrated off the figure also I know I saved that box bc I loved it’s art and I’m pretty sure my dad threw it away all that to say I love this figure and he’s my guilty pleasure Optimus
I got this figure but it was a kind of bad K.O, and I though it was an original mold for the K.O but now... I know that it is just a direct copy of the original. Also, the shield and the sword are painted on this K.O
Definitely a favorite. Only cybertron autobot I still need is wheeljack and of course cliffhumoer. But with him dying he is way to expensive for a repaint of bumblebee
I'll tell you which hate will never be justified: all the hate on Hot Rod all because... A. Optimus Prime fell for Megatron's mercy bait, effectively getting himself killed. B. Hot Rod taking a sneaky approach to stop Megatron from killing Optimus, since using his chrome exhaust blasters means he'll get spotted. And C. The '86 movie is literally a passing of the torch (from old to new, if you will), and the fan's response to Optimus' death pretty much ignores the entire purpose of WHY THE MOVIE WAS MADE. Seriously, the hate on Hot Rod is about as dead as the hate on Sonic '06. *_GET IT OVERWITH._*
I had a varient of this figure, it was silver with red and black highlights. I always used it as an Ultra Magnus since I had no Magnus figure and I still don't.
I got the platinum eddition of AOE leader 2 prime, and it's really cool. Also, I have that AOE deluxe white prime, which isn't great at all, I git that pack for the grimlock
if you were disappointed with the mold they choose with the premium finish prime why are you eyeing an upscale of that exact mold? also yeah thats kinda my reason for wanting a primus/07 leader optimus because they were my childhood and they mean a lot to me so i wanna have them in the best forms possible (although i hate the fucking light blue hastak uses for movie primes he is a dark blue not light blue)
The thing that you did with the laser pointer is very cool. Now about the figure, looks okay i didn't own it or anything but i could consider finding it.
I managed to get one eith the better painted weapons but still my issue isnt eith thrle transformattion or lack of articulation but the plastic quality, its very weak plastic especialy in some of the clips, my chrome issue is with its first edition grimlock wavemate which is also brittle however since they use the same chrome plastic i worry for the optimus for that in future
Yes the hate is justified. There's no paint applied where it counts in the robot mode, the chrome isn't bad but has strange application, and the face sculpt is kind of weird. Transformation doesn't feel all too satisfying either. It also isn't fun to play with because it lacks the articulation you'd want from a sword wielding figure. The truck mode is fucking great though. I own it but every time I pick it up to mess with, I'm reminded why I don't do so very often. TLK Voyager was a big step up, but articulation isn't that much better. Eh. But if it makes you happy, that's all that matters.
Any time I hear someone say a mid tier figure is "The worst ever" of that character, I can't help but wonder just how in-depth their knowledge is. Especially the very popular characters who have lots of obscure toys. Classics Ironhide was a fricking disaster and deserves that (if you don't count his original toy, at least). But he's the only one I can think of where the immediate knee-jerk "worst thing ever" reaction was true. But if a character got a BTR toy, that's almost certainly the worst version. EDIT: All of the chrome used on the robot mode should have gone to the vehicle mode instead. But that's just another good sign of "they ran on a tight deadline."
For Revenge of The Fallen the preview figures were a remolded 07 bumblebee with a new missile launcher plasma cannon arm and a new head, and deluxe Soundwave.

Yep my hounds in pieces barely holds together in alt mode
the takara version has better molding and paiting
and the backpack can be remove
also i think the silver shield version is from the sdcc
Very good information, thanks!
It is not the toy's fault that YOUR child couldn't figure out how to transform it
When your kid is frustrated you can't just call the manager
I was tiny when i figured out ROTF prime
Played with it until it broke
The black Takara repaint of the other Leader Prime has maybe the best paint-job on an official figure.
I have nothing good to say wait hes red and blue great colors haha
Him being visible in vehicle form looks like he is in a dodgem car.
Age of extinction is one of those movies, that the movie is decent but the figuers look nothing like the characters, yes the vehicle modes look good and thats it
Nice video dude, subscribed!
Also, the shield and the sword are painted on this K.O
i remember owning a KO version of this, the backpack shell just gets so floppy at times
4:07 "Kinda reminds me of 2007 Lego"
What do you mean? 2007 Lego pieces were finee...
*Vietnam war flashbacks to the lime green joints for Bionicle*
Definitely a favorite. Only cybertron autobot I still need is wheeljack and of course cliffhumoer. But with him dying he is way to expensive for a repaint of bumblebee
1:22 i actually got this before and i loved it
The lad actually got one! Nice
I will not take the slander being spoken about my main man GT-R Prime. How dare thee.
I didn't think I would hear anyone mention Snowballimus ever again.
Where can I get this for a good price? I wanna get one cuz it looks amazing.
If parents didn't complain, this figure would have been better-
Lovely, personal review. Tempted at all to get the Silver Knight or Platinum Edition versions? ;-)
if you were disappointed with the mold they choose with the premium finish prime why are you eyeing an upscale of that exact mold? also yeah thats kinda my reason for wanting a primus/07 leader optimus because they were my childhood and they mean a lot to me so i wanna have them in the best forms possible (although i hate the fucking light blue hastak uses for movie primes he is a dark blue not light blue)
The thing that you did with the laser pointer is very cool.
Now about the figure, looks okay i didn't own it or anything but i could consider finding it.
It looks like a over sized McDonald's toy. I have one.... lol
Great video. ❤🎉
just got him, has every issue a transformer can have, but somehow I still like it??
Personally the voyager TLK version is the better official version but otherwise Challenger takes the cake for me
I managed to get one eith the better painted weapons but still my issue isnt eith thrle transformattion or lack of articulation but the plastic quality, its very weak plastic especialy in some of the clips, my chrome issue is with its first edition grimlock wavemate which is also brittle however since they use the same chrome plastic i worry for the optimus for that in future
I actually had the figure that had the silver painted weapons. Lost the shield though ):
I had that figure, it was part of the end of my childhood
Lmkmkmkmk
Lol
I have the platinum edition that also came with a trailer and sideswipe, but the set was broken and my optimus prime’s top of the truck snapped off
I wonder if the 6mm ports indicate this was a hasty upscale of, say, a large Voyager.
That's something I was thinking too. Cause it feels upscaled
For Revenge of The Fallen the preview figures were a remolded 07 bumblebee with a new missile launcher plasma cannon arm and a new head, and deluxe Soundwave.
I knew it was a bumblebee! Lol. But I didn't realize Soundwave was also the preview figure
@@ThatToyGuy yeah, and in my opinion he's better then the SS version.
After DOTM the engineering got sloppy. We still had good toys, but it was horrible seeing ROTF engineering fall so far.
i think snowballimus prime is the best optimus prime figure ever even better than OP-Leader or Optus Pexus
Great vid as always btw
Me who eats Snowballimus as well as Chocwave:
I'm wondering, why would you your ROTF Leader Prime? Just curious.
9:17 can anybody give me the link for this guy I can’t find it
So are you going to review Bayformers Nemesis Prime in the future?
optmus prime in my mind
g1:good
t4: good
alternaters:.....
this one: hmmm
Love you man BUT did you say that Alternity Convoy was one of the worst???
It is pretty mid.
I had this figure when I was very young so I destroyed it but I have nostalgia from it so now I am getting it again on ebay.
....wait...snowballimus?? Gotta have that one
Combine wars is a great Optimus prime
I suspect this mould was intended to be a smaller figure, hence the hands and ports being larger than 5mm.
