this hurts because it’s my actual first time seeing Frank this old, you always see him in his album covers so young, mature and happy, this honestly breaks my heart
There's no reason for it to break your heart. This is a man who lived for his audience. His performance is not sad it's inspirational. It's him, the band and that's it. No auto-tune no dancers no technicians fixing the background
I'm 76 years old. When Frank was 25, and on the verge of really breaking out, my Dad was 20, and my Mom was 15. Frank's music always played a big part in their lives, back then. It was the great swing era. And that carried over into my very early life in 1947, and beyond. No matter what musical trends developed during my life in the late '50s, 60s, 70's and beyond, Frank Sinatra's huge, powerful voice, and personality, was never too far away. He was a great singer and a great entertainer. And through the phenomenal musical legacy that he left for all of us, he will never die. There, I said it, "My Way".
I'm only in my 20's so for Frank Sinatra life had always been one of the past rather than something happening currently. But as a young boy my mother used to play this movie and keep it on the menu where it played Sinatra singing over the rainbow, and always used to put me to sleep. From then on I grew up with a love for him and his music which stuck with me much like how he did with you.
I’m only 15 now my mother was born in an era of rock, pop, and rap music in the 80s my father was born in the 70s during the more jazz and rock music but my grandfather first introduced me to singers like dean martin, frank Sinatra, nat king Cole, ray charles and other popular musicians but to this day i love Sinatras music and other.
Iam 75 yrs old and I grew up with Francis and so did my parents I got frank through them and I must say he did it HIS WAY R.I.P. MR. SINATRA LOVE YOU❤❤❤
Even though Franks voice was becoming more slower in his later years due to his Alzheimer’s one thing will never change he never ever lost his quality Frank we miss you, you’re forever the greatest crooner in my eyes may you rest forever in peace with Sammy David and Tony Bennett ❤️
I don't know whether it was Alzheimer's or the Elavil his wife was giving him, or maybe a combination. All of his kids said they could tell when he was on Elavil. That stuff will slur one's speech and cause all sorts of memory problems. Whichever, he's still A number 1, king of the hill, top of the list.
I actually think it's incredibly well done. It's almost closing his cycle. My way is about recounting his way, and he knows it's far from perfect at this age, with mafia involvement and whatnot, so he knows he has actually done it, his way. And he's almost just laying it out, in a simple tone, and simple cadence, just emphasizing what he personally considers important... It's a really personal rendition. I love it. To think it actually was his last, and part of him probably knew it... What a legend
As a long time Sinatra fan, seeing this makes me bawl my eyes out. The thought through his old age he could still preform in this fashion only 4 years before his death. God, the power, the strength. Even though he has forgotten almost all of his lyrics he still kept singing. You can see in his eyes as he recounts his life and how he lived it.
I was under the impression he changed the lyrics to give himself more chances to breathe inbetween words, which fits the theme of the song heartbreakingly-well - an admission of old age.
@@coreyeverett5500 In this particular performance, he literally forgot & it sounds like he skipped those parts...I don't know why he didn't have lyric monitors this time (he usually did) but the best way to tell is to look at the lyrics while watching this & also, you can see or hear other performances during this time & his 80th birthday concerts & hear him sing all the lyrics correctly
I saw Sinatra twice in the mid-80s, and even then he was struggling with his voice and dropping lyrics. By the time this performance was recorded, I thought he was long overdue for retirement. Yet when I watch this now, I absolutely love his performance, flaws and all. The way Sinatra's frailty contrasts with his defiance makes this so much more interesting than if it had been sung by someone in their vocal and physical prime. Only someone of Sinatra's age and with his life experiences - and all he was able to conjure up emotionally looking back at them - could pull off a performance like this.
I also saw him in concert in the 1980's. It was sad to see him forgetting words and his voice cracking but it was still great to see him live in concert. Not one of my favorite Sinatra songs and he did not like that song either.
Man… There’s no words to describe how I feel about this man. Such an inspiring and uplifting performance. It isn’t perfectly sang, but seeing Frank so emotional, and struggling but yet delivering this lovely song is heartbreaking. Sometimes when I feel low I come back to this performance, and it always brings me positive, warm feelings. I love Sinatra, and always will. Rest in peace big legend. Hope to see you up there someday.

First I ever heard this. I had tears in my eyes listening to it but ' Happy tears " I have listened to Frank since I was about 5 yrs old, since my mother adored him. At 78 he could still sing. one of the greatest entertainers of ALL TIME God bless you frank. You did it " Your way "
I love frank Sinatra, people said his performance here wasn't very good well his voice was fine for an aging legend, but at times he seem not to know the next lyric to the song, but like a champ ,he came through R.i.p.sir francis.
OMG! I've never seen this before. It's an amazing portrait of a great artist and storyteller. The brushwork might have been a little dodgy but the overall image he was creating was 100% in tact. What is perfection if not truth and authenticity. This performance used both these elements to tell us a story that truly mattered. And - but oh my! The fragile beauty of his elderly voice retained artistry, elegance & incomparable truth until the end. I mean - what a blessing!
Oh my god, I cried a lot while watching this performance. Mr. Sinatra was old, his voice lacked the high notes, but I could still feel his power in every song he sang in his later years, particularly "My Way". Although he was facing his "final curtain", I believe he didn’t regret anything at all, because he did it his way! He lived a life that's full; he had everything life could offer, obviously. Thank you, Frank Sinatra, for all the things you did for us. Thank you!!!
I can only pray and hope every waking moment to have my voice half as strong as his when I'm 79 man, as a singer that truly is an aspiring thing to even fathom

Listening to him shows me how far we’ve come as human beings. To think he passed away in 1998…..so close to 2000. Truly a man at the edge of the last millennium.
This is the anthem of every man. Summed up in a four minute song. Nothing sad about this, we celebrate his life and his greatness. I hope I go out singing.God bless Francis Albert Sinatra.
The few times he forgots or mistakes on the lyrics, I like to think it was him remembering life and trying to make the lyrics more accurate of what he really felt about it.
I am 15 and not really old enough to say that I remember when he died or when he published his last song but even though he’s dead his music still brings joy not only to me but to my grandfather whenever it comes over the radio
I truly felt his soul in every word, he seemed like such a sad man, completing his legendary journey is such an ironic fashion, truly, it might seem depressing to some, but for me this serves as yet another source of a boundless fountain of respect I have for this man, he really lived this song out, all the way to the end.
What a fantastic and touching moment to hear this wonderful singer doing a last performance! I hope you rest in peace Frankie Boy and the world will miss your wonderful voice forever!
Sinatra always said Lady's phrasing inspired his and the older he got the more you could hear it because when his voice wouldn't do what he wanted he would use that Lady Day-type phrasing to his advantage and it sounded so natural coming from him because he had always used it just not to the same degree as his much later years. Sintra was and still is a vocal giant.
I’m 20 at the moment but when I have kids and they then have kids I’ll make sure they know of the late great Frank Sinatra and of his beautiful melodies
Listen to the last words that he said when he was done singing he wasn't singing for money he was singing because he had a talent that he wanted to share in doing it to please his fans. What modern singer do you know that is that devoted to his fans
It's insanely ignorant the way that the general public judges performers as they age based on what they did when they were in their prime. This is the Frank Sinatra I WANT to see at eighty years old. He'd lived it, he was preaching it. As he always did. And the audience sat with rapt attention. As they always did. This performance should be celebrated! The last My Way? Are you kidding me? It's fucking epic. Please understand what you're looking at and listening to before you make idiotic comments like "this breaks my heart." Maybe your heart wasn't working properly to begin with.
I disagree, the reason this breaks my heart is that his singing embodies the message of the song so well. I can hear the pain from it and its beautiful, maybe its not the objectively best singing but it sure is hell the best at making someone emotional.
Out of all his #1 hits, this is by far the best choice he could've made for the final performance. Even though he died after I was born, his music still lived on in my childhood and many others. Thank you for everything Mr. Sinatra
I believe owed himself these last years on stage with Frank, Jr. right beside his Dad coaching him and encouraging him to still give the best. Each of us can give our best to the end.
Love him - and thank God there is video of this performance... with his Son conducting the Orchestra, and his loyal, longtime pianist Bill Miller, there at the keys....
Thank you for all the great music memories you was a good man and is missed. If there is really a heaven may you RIP until the end you did it your way. ❤
Nothing wrong with this performance, it's amazing that man was still on the stage at nearly 80 year old. He's one of a few singers that could actually sing not like today's computer tuning crap. Frank and Dean are my favourite crooners 😊
This is very moving. Shortly after his death, I remember hearing on NPR a critic saying that when you saw Sinatra perform, you could see what a great actor he was. When his voice wasn't as good as it was in his youth, he could keep the audience mesmerized because of how he could interpret the song. I believe he had a unique way of doing that, that few singers can even come close. I believe that he put across the feeling that his life was nearing the end. I also don't believe that he got enough credit for his acting roles. He was a great comeback surprise with his performance in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY '54. He was considered washed up, and begged for the role. His final interpretation of My Way shows the resilience he had. Like many others in the comments, I grew up with Sinatra. Friends I had in NYC told me of their parents, as teenagers, seeing him at the Paramount in Brooklyn in the 1940s. Frank Sinatra was very much the entertainer of the mid 20th century to the end of it.
When one loves a legend like Sinatra it does not matter if it is not perfect - life is not perfect - massive salute to stand there and give his beautiful best to his fans !
This hurts my heart so much to see him like this, seeing him struggling to sing feels so not right. I really loved this guy, he was a true legend. Rest in peace frank
I watched the 1974 Madison Square Garden performance of this which I believe is on the Greatest Television Moments list. The list was a Television Special if I remember...many years ago. Watching this performance, it certainly does create a Photo Album in your mind. Here, with missing lyrics He still certainly made His Statement, this performance that evening and forever, undeniably HIs Way.
Had a chance to see him years ago at the circle star theater, San Carlos, California. Didn’t make the effort, and always regretted it 😞 - Frank Sinatra played three of his last four Bay Area concerts at the Circle Star, in 1989, 1991 and 1992
this hurts because it’s my actual first time seeing Frank this old, you always see him in his album covers so young, mature and happy, this honestly breaks my heart
Age really affected him after 1990, so sad.
Well, that's life after all...

There's no reason for it to break your heart. This is a man who lived for his audience. His performance is not sad it's inspirational. It's him, the band and that's it. No auto-tune no dancers no technicians fixing the background
But i saw it happy, he had a great life and is proud of what he did and he’s happy to leave this way
We all get old! It shouldn't break your heart! He was a living legend at that point! Seems happy to me!

Maybe he's just getting emotional.

I’m 20 at the moment but when I have kids and they then have kids I’ll make sure they know of the late great Frank Sinatra and of his beautiful melodies
A gem of a man, his voice is a part of us all
Listen to the last words that he said when he was done singing he wasn't singing for money he was singing because he had a talent that he wanted to share in doing it to please his fans.
I can hear the pain from it and its beautiful, maybe its not the objectively best singing but it sure is hell the best at making someone emotional.
looking for something to be mad at clearly lol
you are completely disregarding the emotion in his performances, which is arguably the reason why Sinatra made music in the first place.
Even at this age he still has a beatiful voice
Love him - and thank God there is video of this performance... with his Son conducting the Orchestra, and his loyal, longtime pianist Bill Miller, there at the keys....
The One and Only .... A lifetime of exceptional entertaining. Thank you for the memories you added in my lifetime.
Thank you what a legendary voice💜🧡❤️💗💖💝💘
Thank you for ever for your great art
Dzięki za taką pieśń i wspaniale wykonanie thank You danke merci Ryszard Kulesza
Thanks Frankie and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Coming from a Gen X metalhead. Always loved ya and your era of music.
The man who god created to sing! Thank you for the treasure you left for us, Ol Blue Eyes 💙
So sad, so beautiful, amazing talent, thank you Sir. Rest In Peace.
Obrigada,
Deus o abencoe,descanse em paz
Beautiful song reminds me so much of my childhood listening to this and now I’m 20 years old
Frank was such an inspiring Artist to so many
I love Frank Sinatra. I love this man.
This is an incredible performance in spite of its flaws. It has this incredible honesty that really makes it resonate in a unique way for me
I watched the 1974 Madison Square Garden performance of this which I believe is on the Greatest Television Moments list. The list was a Television Special if I remember...many years ago.
Watching this performance, it certainly does create a Photo Album in your mind. Here, with missing lyrics He still certainly made His Statement, this performance that evening and forever, undeniably HIs Way.
Sad to hear how his voice was towards his end and how he would forget some words, RIP bluey
I am glad to have been there to see him live in concert several times, not this concert
but others.
A GREAT SINGER , ACTOR, AND MAN......REST IN PEACE FRANK. ALWAYS REMEMBERED ..ONLY WILL EVER BE ONE FRANK SINATRA...YOU...
This hits different... R.I.P Sinatra🕊️
Beautiful,gave us beautiful songs 👏👏🙏❤️
My Biggest Respect is still to Mister Frank Sinatra. My best movie of Mister Frank Sinatra is : Suddenly. Rest In Peace Mister Sinatra.
Truth be told, the lyrics to this song is quite hard to memorize 😅
I was in Las Vegas the night they dimed the lights for Frank Sinatra on the day he died.
I saw him and Bob Hope and Grace Kelly, in 1970, at the Royal Festival Hall. London. What a thrill. I get chills thinking about it. The Master!
This chokes me up just like when Elvis sang unchained melody
Had a chance to see him years ago at the circle star theater, San Carlos, California. Didn’t make the effort, and always regretted it 😞 - Frank Sinatra played three of his last four Bay Area concerts at the Circle Star, in 1989, 1991 and 1992
After all those years, his voice was still so symbolic
