Great set up, love how much storage room & kitchen space you have. I sometimes rig up some cheap material shower curtains between the shower tent & teardrop or awning. Quick to dry, lightweight, easy to adjust & can attach velcro (for poles or pegs) if needed, to keep them in place. Save Ros the nudie run 😉 Can also be useful for blocking the sun or wind, keeping the dew off chairs etc; we carry a few extras as the weight & pack down are next to nothing. Happy camping
The hunt for the best camp setup continues. I love how you are pursuing this and sharing your thoughts along the way. I understand the attraction to a full featured caravan but they obviously have their drawbacks. The drawback I see with this new setup is an awful amount of fabric and fiddling with setting up camp. After tent camping for more than 40 years we were done with fabric shelters. It's horrible to set up and take down in wind or rain. It's a mess to fold up then pull back out to dry later. We switched to an off-road teardrop trailer with a 180 degree awning. We do have the zip in awning walls as an option. The cabin has a full queen bed that can covert to sofa seating. The 180 awning with walls can sleep 4 adults and cots. The teardrop can follow our Land Rover virtually anywhere. If it's windy, raining or dark we can just unlock the doors and we're in. There is a full galley in the back with a hatch that creates an instant shelter. The fiberglass insulated shell is 100% weaterproof and secure. We keep our teardrop packed and ready to roll. The only thing we have to do is top off the propane and water tank, then fill the fridge. We do set up our 180 awning at most of our camp spots but it's not required, like a tent. Plus the 180 is very easy to manage and dry out. Anyway we tested and researched a lot of options before buying the teardrop. It's been working fantastic for us during more than three years of all season camping. Love your channel Buck, well done!
Bloody great little set up now buck, those side shades are great and so easy to set up, Rozz you and raffa certainly going to enjoy your camping again now, I reckon roz and raffa just don’t want to have to listen to you snore after having a few 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Buck, I understand you’re feelings about what Camping really is. I am glamping a bit myself by having my swag on a stretcher , hehe. Yours Looks like a outdoorsy camping Taj Mahal setup. Great setup for all sorts of camping! Well done mate , for seeing the camping light 💡…. Again.
Great setup Buck. With regards to the oztent I have an RV 3 that I have had for 25 years. When I purchased it you could only get it from the Aussie manufacturer. One thing get yourself a groundsheet for the base of the tent as leaves etc stick to the tent floor and end up getting folded up in the tent. Cheers
Good on ya buck! To hell with any haters! Great set up you have. Your in the right part of the world to enjoy the outdoors, have a beer, and enjoy the fresh air. 👍
Hi Buck great setup if a tad labor intensive suggest stay fit and preferably young (both sadly i am not). For us on the DOT we found hot water to the kitchen not most efficient. Have to change the Joolca settings from shower friendly to scalding hot for kitchen (dont forget to turn back). Plus by time hot water got through a fair bit of water had pushed through. We found most efficient for washing up was to use cold water from the tap and boil water on the stove for the hot. Works for us. Happy Camping.
Yes mate I got a good billy there to boil up. Yeah the full setup takes a bit but it is part of camping. If it is an overnighter, you set up way less. Pulling down in the rain sucks but that is the case for all camp set ups. I am still fit for my age mate. I go to the gym 5 days a week. I just got to watch my crook back. Not interested in lugging a heavy caravan around just to go camping.
Buck that’s an awesome setup up mate, in fact the idea of the Oztent RV5 under the RT is fantastic. Just showed the misses who feels the same as Ros regarding the ladder. We don’t have a Drifta camper but we have a home made which is similar ( what can I say I’m a cheap bastard) so we might see if we can replicate yours. Thanks for sharing mate and going to the trouble of setting everything up, hope your both well.
Did like my camper also liked my rooftop they have a different feel to a caravan However we like touring moving frequently and that is best suited to a caravan I think it all depends on what you are doing to what suits you no one size fits all Iam sure you ros and raffa will enjoy your current setup for many years now go and enjoy Buck Steve
great setup buck , the misses pointed out only thing is the canvas gutter might splash onto or pour into the RV5 in heavy rain, you'll be ok up in the roof top 🤣🤣
Great set up Buck. Love the Drifter Dot campers if I was younger and fit I would have bought one. At 72 I'm not allowed to climb any ladders now, so a roof top tent is out of the question. We settled on a jayco wren, easy to set-up. Ps. You forgot to start the Engel Generator for another Demonstration.
That’s a cool setup with integrating the RV5 and it’s true camping. We use a single ensuite joolca shower tent which are very easy to setup and solid. Also, instead of climbing out in the middle of the night I use a pee bottle. I use a naglene wide mouth water bottle 1000ml. Believe me it’s a game changer.
Great set up mate. I'm with you. I prefer to be outside then in a van, I get claustrophobic in them. Our small hybrid camper has a bed and a small lounge in it and that's it so as soon as I'm awake I am straight back outside. That's Camping plus the DOT will get you into a lot more (better) campsites around FNQ alone, then a van.
Thats a very smart looking set up Buck. 👍 Im sure you'll have lots of great trips with this. Im looking forward to getting out camping again once the humidity from Wet Season subsides a bit.
Yeh, I prefer towing a trailer to a big bulky caravan, get into more places too. But I prefer not towing anything at all and that's what my roof top tent is for. Maybe you could set up the BT50 to do some solo trips without all the gear hanging off the back. You could choose some more remote destinations that way also, spoiled for choices, like your camp cooking.
Hi Buck, Didn't Steve give you a canvas room that fits under the awning of the Crazy Dog RTT. Why not use that for Ros to sleep in, instead of the Oztent.?
Very similar to my set up mate, the rachett straps that you use where dis you buy them they seem more sturdy that the standard ropes , would they work with a standard peg
Yeah you can use a normal tent peg but make sure it'sa decent one, not a pissy little one. The ratchet straps are about 300 kg breaking strain and get fluro green or orange so people can see them. Bunnings or Supercheap Auto mate. Sets of four. Maybe get the 2.4m or 3.6m size. 1.8m too short.
@Mrbuckaroonie.. cheers Buck, yeh I reliked that idea,, the standard ropes with the wooden handles to put tension are Pk but cone loose and in bad wind the ratchet will be way more sturdy appreciate the reply
I love the setup, being a girl I like complete privacy from shower to tent for dressing room, so I would make the shower tent private for run to tent for your beautiful wife Ros. I'm just saying as I have a similar setup but with a Sunland Mini. I came back from Victoria at Christmas time to Brisbane in 38 deg heat. Jans shady wall dropped the heat by 7 degrees under the 30-second degrees awning. You were instrumental in me choosing shady gear. Just love it. Being 4ft 10 the screens are so light for me to put up without effort. I get why you sold the caravan as I sold my 20ft 6in Sunland and went down to 10ft. Although I do have aircon in my Mini.
Yeah I got new Ironman suspension on the BT50 with foam cell pro shockies. Trailer has double shockies and airbag suspension from cruisemaster. Very goo.
@jerryrubinek8905 there is a huge difference between camping and caravanning. Caravans are more suited if you are travelling and stopping over for a break and on you go. If you are going camping taking your caravan, if it rains etc, you’d be stuck in your caravan doing shit all. That’s correct but in this new set up there is the Oztent RV tent which weighs nearly 25 kg plus stretchers and so many other bags that take time to set up More and more bags Who needs it
@@jerryrubinek8905That is the whole idea when you want to camp isn’t it. Going unpacking, erecting the tents etc and creating that camping vibe, that feeling of camping. If the person camping doesn’t mind the baggage they have and are ok spending time setting up their camp, I don’t get why other people should have their opinion. Nobody should be telling anyone what to do. I am pretty sure Buck is aware how time consuming it is to set up his camp and if he is happy than people should zip it. He has been camping for so long and it’s a piece of cake for him to set up his camp and from what I see, I think he enjoys it cos it’s also mentally stimulating doing something rather than having it easy and just being lazy!
@@jerryrubinek8905 And you wanted to know the reason he sold his hybrid van, it’s because he loves this type of camping.
