    Great tips vid. When packing the tent into a bag, we fold up the tent right where it was pitched - don’t lift the tent - just put the bag over the tent where it lay then roll everything over and zip it up. 😊

    Tip for setting up awning as Peaked on your own and in wind! Unroll awning and attach centre poles and spreader while leaning it against erected tent at an angle then attach front poles and spreader pole while still leaning against the tent, attach front guy lines, pull front guys forward one at a time and peg down, the entire awning erects peaked, you then just need to adjust it! Also with putting in the bag leave the packed tent "On the ground" put unzipped bag over tent and just flip and zip. Always great to share and see RV tent tips&tricks so keep them coming.

    Much appreciate your efforts in curating these tips Dan, always something of value to try! After several "rookie errors" not attaching fly before putting up tent have tied a thin piece of nylon rope (1.5m) to the zip so fly can be installed solo. We have also had success with a square piece of marine carpet (from Bunnings) that protects base/ inflatable mattresses , provides great insulation & very comfortable under foot. When packin
    g up , we remove carpet , roll it up & along with a 2m length of pine floorboard attach to surf racks providing structural support to Oztent , preventing bowing of tent in transit. Cheers

    Thanks Dan , I enjoyed your very informative video and all the great tips .
    I have owned an RV4 OZTENT for a little over 12years and absolutely love it . Over time , I have developed some useful modifications and also necessary improvements to help with heavy rain . The biggest initial problem was the roof ponding with fully enclosed setup, so I installed 3 aluminium spars to the front low pitch roof . ( sourced from an old outdoor umbrella) They simply attach between top & lower spreaders with cable ties and I’ve never had any more issues even in violent storms .
    You mentioned the spreader bar under the rear fly which is something that I tried once . After a night of very heavy rain , I ended up with a huge amount of water ponding on the roof. ( it bent the oztent frame) I will never do that again ! Spreader always goes above the fly !
    A simple tip for fitting the fly by yourself is to extend the small alum pole , fit top into zipper tab and slide across, very easy !
    Another issue common to all alum poles of this style ( top portion sliding inside lower section) after much heavy rain, a small amount of water always gets inside some poles and causes unsightly staining to the anodising if put away wet . ( Supapeg poles are similar but can be simply pulled apart to dry out properly)
    OZTENT poles are crimped at the base , so I had to open up and carefully reform the alum so that I can take them apart . Personally, this is the only way that I have found to properly dry out all my poles before storage . ( my friends can’t be bothered with this process and I have seen the results in a much newer tent , not pretty ! ) I do understand that not many will want to go to this extreme .
    I have lots of other OZTENT stories but that’s enough for now .
    Happy camping and keep on keeping !

    Good tip with the occy straps on the back edge of the fly ! The standard fly guyropes are way too long and are a PITA - I was going to cut them shorter, but will go the occy strap route now. Question - do you do the same with the guyropes on the sides of the fly ?
    In a similar vein .... an easy way to get more ventilation with the front panel on, but still maintaining privacy, is to unzip the front awning panel and just run 2 occy straps from it's bottom corners out to the front guyrope pegs (rather than rolling it up)

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great idea with the front panel. I will remember this if I ever want that front privacy. I haven't gone the occy route at the fly sides, but maybe I should. It's biggest benefit is the rear because of the exterior window hatch access. Thanks heaps for watching and sharing you ideas! Cheers.😁

    If you anticipate snow or perhaps hail, put the fly spreader bar on the top (outside) of the fly. If you put it underneath then snow or ice cannot slide off and the weight may bend the spreader bar and eventually collapse the tent.

    In heavy winds the front of the tent can catch a lot of wind, and then the horizontal frame part in the top of the tent tends to bend quite scarily at the hinge points. When I expect heavy winds I brace the upper frame part with one of the awning poles and some pieces of velcro.

    Do you or others have any tips for sliding the rv4 onto rhino roof racks. Like a slide panel?. We got rid of steel tradie racks - too heavy with all the other stuff.
    Tip - loading the tent onto a tradie roof rack- We used to simply rest it against the rear Steel rack and lift and slide - but to assist i also cable tied vinyl floor tiles to the rack and looped them over the rear rail and the tent slid on easily.

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Brian, great tip, we do something similar putting it up on the rack. Wouldn't want to do my back before or after a trip trying to put the tent on the roof! However, not sure whether it would work with just roof bars.... If you could add a set of three bars you may be able to do it the same way. Otherwise, maybe a two person lift at the side of the car and place on top is the best way to go. People have said they use rolled up carpet as stiffener, or ply wood/lengths of woods to help support the tent on the roof bars, but not sure that would help with getting it on/off the roof. Cheers, let me know if you figure it out!

    Hey mate well done on the video....I'm getting a rv3 oztent and I was wondering the hockey strap trick would it work on the back window part instead of the guy ropes ?

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey mate, Thanks for watching. Do you mean the canvas zippable cover on the window (without the fly) ? If so, I think it just has the two eyelets - one each side - to use as tie down points. The eyelets seem quite small, I would tie a loop in some cord (say 50-100mm loop) then hook the ockey strap onto that. Tieing down at an angle (ie. toward the tent corners on a diagonal rather than straight back from the tent) will probably help, but I think there will still be some slack and it may flap around. Maybe it will work for what you want! Let me know how it goes. Importantly, you won't have rain protection on the sides angle (because the canvas flap lifts perpendicular to the tent only with no side protection).. SO if it rains - its probably getting wet inside. Cheers, Good luck.

    Hi Dan, we recently got ourselves a Oztent RV4 for South Africa camping. Love the easy setup and space in the tent. My only concern is the light that shines through early mornings with the hot south african sun. Not sure if we should get the fly sheet to help with the light block out? Any tips to make the tent darker inside? I was thinking to make loose side flaps (with block out material) that you can attach on inside of tent frame for sleeping time. Do you think this can work?😊

    • @OTWD
      @OTWD  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Madeleine, where is the light coming in exactly? Do you mean the tent lights up too much as soon as the sun is up? I think the fly will help for sure, it is opaque and will create another light barrier. It will also help keep the tent cooler for longer. I'm sure if you are concerned about the light...it will probably heat up in there quick too :) DIY blockout sounds like a bit of work to make and attach/detach each time - but why not try? Suggest windows could be the biggest pain, you may need to think about which ones you may want to access regularly and how to manage that. Could you droop bloockout material over the canvas, between the tent and the fly? Whatever you try, I'm interested to hear how it turns out. Cheers.😬
