    The good old days of match of the day before money and foreign investors ruined football as we knew it....miss those days

      Check the crowd,all those empty spaces and I think this was the match on the ICF programme.Not everything was great back then,many things but not everything.

      I'd choose the games of the 70s and 80s every time,....muddy pitches, hardtackling,...warm beer, grounds had their own charm and quirkiness and identity,...now they are soulless bowls without any real character or atmosphere.........now the game is so money obssessed,.ruined by agents and mercenary greedy players,.....no the game may be awash with money,...but it's definitely not a better spectacle

      @pbr streetgang thanks,my mistake although the point remains the same,I loved football back then but it had many problems.

      @suffern63 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @pbr streetgang Of course you're right in so many ways but if you have kids today would you have been very happy with them going away to Millwall,watching a match in the stand at Bradford,and many others,or a semi-final at Hillsborough?I think,if the will existed,we could have decent atmposphere at games today with safe standing and owners who cared about their fans and didn't just want to squeeze them as "customers."I,too,preferred the game in my youth but it had many bad aspects.

    Got to love the Cobblers's Bukta kit, with its flappy collar and nipple chafing material.
    While Villa and several others had flashy V-collar and thin material, Northampton valiantly battle on with a kit supplier who were making designs for future TOFFSco products....

    Interesting camera angle at 39.30 seeing the old Sixfields revealing the empty 4th side of the ground, which was, in fact, a cricket ground as well. Cameras never showed this side.

    remarkably good pitch at Northampton for february, especially when you compare it to the mudbath at Old Trafford. I remember that Mark walters goal, classy player he was, great first touch. It's a shame that english football is dead now, sold out little by little once Sky got the exclusive rights and all the sheep followed and bought their satellite dishes.
    Owned and played by foreigners now so no longer representing their communties, diving all the time, ultra light beach ball, human chess pieces moved by foreign managers and coaches, seems that german managers are the latest fashion, can't watch it anymore.
    Money changes everything.

    Northampton Town playing at the old County Ground and getting just over 17K in terms of supporters. Now, you're lucky if you see 5 to 6K at Sixfields.

    Alan Devonshire young and with a head of hair !! See him at Maidenhead these days where he's the manager, he looks like a "Get orff of my land" farmer with a flat cap and worn out jacket and pants ! Strangely for a footballer (of any era) he doesn't drive. Does a great job at Maidenhead though.

      That's a sad story. Brian Clough will always be the greatest manager in the history of football ⚽️ (in my opinion) but so much credit has to go to Peter Taylor for his scouting genius. Together they were unstoppable and the first 2 people to do it as a duo. They invented the assistant manager role 😎⚽️❤️
