So- in theory… John Aldridge scores… Eire on 2 wins Holland on 1 win. Soviets on 1 win Next matches, Eire beat Holland 1-0. Holland stuck on 2 pts. England just need to beat the Soviets- 8-0 and go through in second place on goal difference. Mark Hateley becomes Top Scorer, returns to AC Milan, Van Basten returns home to Utrecht to sell clogs
Why the footage so dark
"That was a much better stop than Southall''s"....what an absolutely stupid thing to say!
Great win for United, as Jim called them.
What a team ☘️
Sadly, Howard died a while ago and Viv Busby very recently. Both brilliant people.
Absolute silence at Anfield...bizarre having just watched so many matches from the 1970s with YNWA echoing round the park. Alan Kennedy really was splendid, though - no wonder he kept getting important goals.. Reminds me of Fergusson's Man United in the early 2000s, grinding out big wins without seeming to try very hard, just patiently unpicking the opposing defence then a glut of goals near the end
I was in the North Stand for this one and remember the game well, particularly for Mariner's hatrick and the penalty saves by Bailey. The Man U defence was terrible and we really should have had 10 gials
Toon fans got lost
A great night, I was at the game, full of drama to comeback and win , honestly thought we would the title, we were so close. Great memories and also run onto the pitch from the north bank.
AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaalbion.
Those Norway jerseys are absolute rocking!!! How about cracking rock star mullet on 14 🎸🎸🎸
JUG EARS LOOKS WHITE AS A GHOST 💙😂TOSSPOT IT IS 💪💪
CHELSEA HERE CHELSEA THERE CHELSEA EVERY FEKKING WHERE 💙💙💙💪💪GREAT DAYS 💪💪
Nothing like the 80's
I wish I could go back in time
The Ipswich Goalie played in goal for the German team in Escape to Victory.
@20:26 😮
Dirty tuckers weren't they ?
Would of loved to see him in a training session Roy keane got to see him train once, as ireland were using the ground that maradona was playing for, and got to see him training To see maradona, or messi train must be better then watching them in real game
Wednesday 9th September 1981
I’m behind the goal (blue jacket)to the right at the front clapping the Beardsley overhead kick
Remember it well 😒
We had 10,000+ at WHL & got fucking slaughtered .. ⚒️
Even by the low standards of groundsmanship there were back then, that is a shocking football pitch for a game in the first couple of weeks of the season.
Stood on that scoreboard end terrace a few times in the '80's. God how I miss 'old' football stadia.
I miss the atmosphere, grounds and football from the 1980's. I would take the game from back then over today's rubbish, every time. Just remove the hooliganism. Mind you, in all the games I went to in the 1980's, I probably saw 2 instances of trouble. If you went looking for it, you would probably find it. If you didn't look for trouble, you wouldn't really see any.
So this is what football looks like without VAR 😀
`........and United are in the dark shirts´ Still catering for those with black and white tv´s.
This Everton team were massively underrated. Southall was the best keeper in Europe by a mile in this era.
I'm not convinced they were underrated! I've heard it said many times that they probably would have gone on and won The European Cup if it hadn't been for Heysel. They were certainly a better team than Steaua Bucharest team that won it in 1986, and the PSV team that won it in 1988.
steve wicks was shagging the chairman's daughter them days😂
Top class !!
Remember that game me and my mate's got tickets in United Road..soon had to get out because it was on top ..got escorted round the side of pitch and slung in scoreboard paddock
I remember watching this with my grandad on Sportsnight, and he was laughing his head off by the sixth goal 😂
1 substitute ? What's that about
Hard to believe that a year later Alex Ferguson would finish out the season as manager.
Ref was awful and no, l am a fan of neither club but he made decisions that cost Forest the game.
Great listening to Jimmy Hill's wise and measured words , so much better than today's blah blah blah
Because live football on tv was still very rare at this point in time the excitement felt when programmes like this started was incredible. Even if it was just a friendly v Saudi Arabia. The good old days
Who is watching in 2024
Ally Brown when he gets the ball he's bound to score...
Gosh didn't they have loads of obscure tournaments back then
England should have beaten Chile. These day’s the team would get booed off.
That goal from Woodcock should never have been disallowed
Just outed as a fraudster
Used to regular in those days ,some great games ,midfield then compared to now ,and the wingers they are looking up who to pass too ,not any more ,its all selfish make me wonder what do the coaches do at United.
In the 80s and into the early 90s Forest frequently beat United home and away - the 4-0 wins in 1978 and 1990 spring to mind - and several more in between.
Those were the days
Nice, very nice... Let's see Paul Allen's goal
Moses was on the bench
Villa won the league this season. Last time they won it was in 1910. This season cost United manager Dave Sexton his job after his expensive buy of striker Gary Birtles , a Forest hitman, failed to find the net for the club, despite finishing runners up last season and buying great players in Joe Jordan, Gordon McQueen & Ray Wilkins.
