  • 12:07 if you're just looking for Dame Edna's appearance
Crowded House arrives first and performs "Something So Strong" (with the last note, this time, although Neil doesn't look happy about the harmony) and "Now We're Getting Somewhere". Then, DAME EDNA arrives to talk about her beautiful clothes and other things. Finally, Neil, Nick & Paul surprise Edna by singing the Hunters & Collectors song, "Throw Your Arms Around Me" to her.

As an Aussie of a certain age (61), this brought back great memories of live shows from long ago. Crowded House had us dancing, Dame Edna had us laughing. And all made Aussies proud. Though a few from Crowded House were Kiwis, we adopted them as our own, but Paul and Dame Edna were from my hometown of Melbourne, Edna (but not Barry) from the suburb of Moonee Ponds where as a kid I was dragged through shops by Mum and Dad and where, for a few years in my 40s, I worked at Murdoch’s Foxtel. Barry Humphries, Paul Hester and my parents (and Joan) were all still alive then, now all gone. I don’t know what my folks thought of the Crowdies but they loved Dame Edna. We went to many of Humphries’ live shows. More memories, tears of laughter replaced by tears of sorrow. Well, still some laughs. Thanks for uploading this it was very nice of you, as it was of acerbic Edna not to ask Joan why her band played the British “Land of Hope and Glory” as she entered. “Advance Australia Fair” (or even “Down Under”) would’ve been more appropriate! RIP Barry, Hessie. Joan and Avril & Arthur (my mum and dad)❤
