- The First Lady of Australian comedy.
She may be "off stage" now but Australia's Grand Dame Edna Everage should live on .. on Television.
Some of her finest moments have been on Australia's TV Week Logie Awards over the years.
This short compile features some of her best including her appearance at the 1984 Awards ceremony with Bert Newton.
The 2012 Logie Awards are scheduled for Sunday night the 15th of April.

Creating so much laughter without swearing. Legend.
A momentous day for Australia 🇦🇺 with the passing of the beloved and talented Barry Humphrey's...rest inpeace Dame Edna😢
Rest in eternal heaven Bert and Barry.
These 2 were the faces of Australian television back in the 90s.
It’s like uncle Bert and auntie Edna
Two Aussie immortals. RIP Dame Edna and Bert.
Barry and Bert. Two Geniuses. They don't make them like that any more. Rest well funny men 🇦🇺❤
This "lady" has given me decades of entertainment pleasure. Just brilliant.
So incredibly sad that He didn't even get a proper send off because the government didn't want to take the focus of voice. So much laughter so much enjoyment but absolutely nothing .
The best thing about this is when she gets to Bob Hawke and he says "Good on you love!"
Edna's facial expressions...And "maximum security twilight home" Priceless.
This was a who's who of celebs from back in the day, where people just had fun, where we could laugh with each other and didn't get offended by everything.
& the odd politician or two.🙂
Well said 😊
It was the Americans who come up with the political correctness thing so they could wipe out all sorts of comedy around the world so we end up on Google it's really sad
"I was a frumpy woman then......(looks around the room) I'm pleased to see that look is coming back."
This guy has to be one of the all time funniest people ever. Dame Edna takes 2nd place to no one. And I mean NO ONE. She had the BEST punch lines and could get away with anything.
The same with Sir Les Patterson absolutely brilliant what they could get away with
He is a genius! Made everyone laugh and made a fortune doing so!
And lost it all during the GFC
Apparently the wives got most of it. he often joked that they would take his paintings and he'd have to go back to the auction and buy them back
Her Ladyship Dame Edna Everage is simply adorable-an international treasure possums, she has gifted the whole world with guffaws for over sixty years now :-)
I'm grom the US and I loved from watching Dame Edna on the Johnny Carson show.
She is so brilliant and I love seeing everyone laugh so hard. As a comedian myself I know what a great feeling that is.
I have a feeling that the only funny thing about you is your name.
Im laughing at you right now
@@zapkvr0101 and many of us are shaking our heads and wondering why you even bother commenting what a miserable excuse for a human being.
I was a professional performer for 30 years and learnt so much from watching Barry. That thing of just pulling a face and having the audience in stitches if it was done properly . We were so lucky to have this sort of entertainment before Google took over
#RIPDameEdna aka Barry Humphries (1934 - 2023) #RestInPeace 😢
So incredibly sad the Australian government wouldn't even give him a send off because they're so far up their ass with their political correctness . So much laughter and enjoyment and he just passed away with only a couple of words which they say the family wanted but it wouldn't have been Barry that said that
The reactions!! Absolutely side splitting! 😂😂😂
I've just discovered the cure for my depression...Dame Edna... Oh and I'll never forget the wonderful Mr. Clive James of course... RIP : )
Hoping that your skies have become sunny.
@@melatomic thanks and blessings...
Two legends
RIP❤❤❤❤
R.I.P Dame Edna
Well as far as i am concerned, she is greater than any entertainer. i just wish that i would have known the scope of her genius years ago when i had the oppertunity to see her. a brilliant entertainer for all times!
Rest in paradise, possums.
We love you so.❤❤
Dame Edna has a wonderful sense of humor. She always cheers me up.
Always will, even though not with us anymore 😢
Priceless
Rest in peace Dame Edna
So sad that the Australian government is so obsessed with political correctness that they didn't even give him a proper send off
Two classic entertainers. RIP Burt
So many of the people in the audience I grew up watching are no longer with us.
So true. TV royalty from the 60s to to 80s.
I can't think of anyone I would love to watch more.
LOL.......there's no one like Dame Edna!
When they pan across the audience it’s amazing how many of the people are no longer with us
Yes, darling. And in some time you won't be with us either. It's just the way it is.
Its not amazing. Not even close
@@zapkvr0101 sawdust in the head obviously
@@chrisnewman7281 You know, if you use punctuation, your meaning would be a lot clearer
@@zapkvr0101 check out my other comment about you doofus
R.I.P 1934-2023
“Maximum security twilight home”......Hilarious!!
Bob hawke "good on ya love". 🤣
Comic genius. Just a great comic and entertainer. He makes you laugh until it hurts.
I love how Dame Edna whacked that guy in the head with her flowers when she was spinning around.
Couldn't get a better straight man than Bert. it's an underrated skill.
Stop with the silly American crap of copying words like underrated . he was not underrated in this country they were absolutely geniuses and everybody new that
There is only one 🤣
Love her!!!
No superlative adequate enough! What to say .. about the person to whom there is virtually no compliment which has not been paid?? Australia's gift to the world.. Dame Edna Everage!
Ok, I lost it the second time she hit the dude in the face while spinning 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😭😂
RIP Australian television:
1956 - Reality TV.
in the rush for equality a lot of stupid women got jobs who weren't qualified and they believed that if somebody didn't get a joke they would be destroyed for life so everybody had to miss out
She's even NOT a comedian. She IS herself.
Just brilliant
I was half-expecting her to lose her way to the stage after spinning like that only to accidentally walk back out the way she entered.
I remember watching her show it was great luv her
My mother and I enjoyed Dame Edna's show. She always made us laugh and we liked the way she dressed.
I watched with my mom too.
She’s got even funnier with age.
Un beatable the best
Comedy genius!!!
I was born in 1989 and Dame Edna has always kind of existed in the background of my childhood. Its so nice seeing people laughing and enjoying themselves in this video but I've never really understood why the character is found to be so funny.
have you ever spoken with a rich, old, snobby woman before?
that's what it's paying out
more specifically, it's paying out the grandiosity of 1950s Australia, who, because of their victory in WW2, spared no expense in living out their largess and their sense of (earned) superiority (since they're literally: The Greatest Generation).
@@jackbrady9738 Not really these days. Like the glasses and the outfits and the loud ridiculous voice...doesnt really resonate anymore.
@GG The character was born from satire (not stand-up) and evolved over time. Are you familiar with Kath & Kim, Chris Lilley, Sharon Strezleky? These are also some examples of Australian character satire. The American comic Amy Shultz has also had immense success in parodying a white, privileged young trash bag character, and is considered very funny in todays day and age.
@@melatomic Having been born in 1989 of course ive heard of those people... That comedy was of my generation of people. Dame Edna was dated and old by the time Kath and Kim etc came of prominence. No one my age (30s) ever talks or has talked about Barry Humphries being funny or entertaining.
Barry is a genius
Bob Hawke got a hug.
I Saw Tony Randall in the audience! Then it cut off.
A comic genius.....from a pom.
what a simple little dresS
Barry was so good people actual spoke to him as if he was a Dame.
We had a rich tradition in Australia of doing that with all these type of characters ,that's what made it so funny that everybody pretended they were real
Classy and naughty 🐩🐷
RIP, Bert ❤️
not sure if it's an Australian thing but it's great the way we give awards to the character not the person who created it the same with Norman he got a logie
You probably won't see this but I'm going to write it anyway .I was just watching a clip of Norman Gunston . I said something using Norman Gunston , this young guy said no it's Gary McDonald not Norman Gunston he had no idea the why we allowed the characters to be real
Dame Edna.......... now that's a celebrity's salad I would never toss !! said a waiter that night.
She came on to the song "Jesus Christ, Superstar"?! Well, no one ever accused Dame Edna of excessive modesty....
the song was *"Dame Edna, Superstar"*
Sadly its gone because the yanks insisted that we all be entertained by mindless Google instead of laughing at Australian comedy. To all the people that made us laugh especially Dame Edna thank you so much you will be fondly remembered
Dame Enda of Mooney Ponds Victoria for our pleasure.
God, was this 1984?!
Comedy + Intelligence wins every time ----
PMSL. I do not get half the jokes. NO problem. We all need folk like Dame Edna who come from another planet entirely, in our lives. xxx.
The Mr. Hawke that Dame Edna refers to was our Prime Minister at the time (83-91). The Norn person is Dame Ednas husband.
Rich little in the audience
The only guy in drag I actually after awhile could almost forget it was a guy in drag lol!
Lots of deadens there.
yep, I see dead people
Janet Street-Porter at 1.31 :-))))
Jeannie Little, the other great Australian femme fatale to give the Dame a run for her money.
Marilyn at 2:59
Lolol I'm a Yank and don't get some of these references. ❤
Possibly because they were aimed at Australian audiences.
Her grimaces and facial contorsions always remind me of Lady Gaga for some reason.
2:11 LOL "I'm afraid Norm is DEAD, Darling....To THe World. He's DEAD To The World."
Adam Costello FUCK OFF!
Is that a Lloyd Webber parody in the music of HouseWife SuperStar ?
Loong x ago
3:45 an incisive comment many Australians lack self awareness of.
Please explain @James French
As long as is this dame does not sing, I love her. She is incapable of singing. When she sings....for Christ sake, i feel so sick
Why do some english speakers add a R when they say Dame Edna(R) Everage?
It's strange, because they don't pronounce the r's that are actually in words. You can hear a lot of Brits pronounce "I saw it" as "I sorrit."
That is very interesting.
phonetic vowel pronunciation
Bert Newton out staged.
Because he knew how to play the perfect straight man, & they paid Barry huge money at the time to appear.
Sorry moon face your not the best ! Go Dame!
God is coming back soon pls all repent of your sins
