Silly Earth pony, drawing wings on yourself won't make you a pegasus! Manman3872 I disagree NPC's have sidequests, rewards, and/or sell items. Excluding the nameless NPCs and Townsfolk who are there to give the player hints and backstory which is still useful. They are more important then a puzzle mechanic as Peach is in Teehee Valley. I also find it annoying that goombas can kidnap her in a few seconds when she has proven she can fight in other games and goombas aren't exactly the strongest enemy, but that's neither here nor there.
And now... it is time... for me, to reveal... The Trick.
Basically, after Peach gets kidnapped when you enter Teehee Valley, instead of rescuing her right away, kill all the enemies on screen and on the screens beyond until you reach the point where Trunkle blocks your progress. Once you're done, go back and rescue her, and all the enemies will stay dead. That's because enemies in this game don't respawn unless you enter Castle Town or I think Little Fungitown. I figured that out on my first playthrough; I thought that if an enemy touched her, she would get kidnapped, so I got the idea that if I killed all the enemies in advance, the path would be safe. Sure enough, it worked. Although, granted, Emile's method is faster because you only have to do the puzzles once, whereas with my trick, the puzzles will reset after you enter a pipe.
Now for Advanced Swing Bros. Emile has worded the quirk about the move fairly well, but in case it wasn't obvious already, Advanced Swing Bros. doesn't actually steal items. This game doesn't have a steal list like in Final Fantasy, so instead, it forces an enemy to prematurely drop one of its random drops, provided it has a drop to begin with. Now, at the point Emile is in the game, that ability is very helpful to get things like the Lucky Bros. Badge. But, slight spoiler ahead, since Emile is going for the last coffee rewards as early as possible, it won't be very useful afterward. At the very least, it does extra damage, albeit very trivial damage, but I guess it's better than nothing.
By the way, the Gritty Goombas in Teehee Valley are jerks. They aren't coded properly, so you can't get a first strike on them with your hammer, even if your timing is flawless. I have no idea why, because the palette swaps of Gritty Goombas you'll see later are coded properly and can be hit with a first strike with hammers. I don't know if jumping on them with the Spiny Badge A equipped works, I wanna say it does, but I never bothered with it.
ShadyKnight9 I definitely recall jumping on Gritty Goombas, but again, I don't know if I'm thinking of the Blue/Gray ones (which I don't believe were renamed, they're still just Gritty Goombas).
Not really much of a trick, especially if A. You know what route Peach follows, and B. You know where the enemies are. Was expecting something more. And yes, enemies do respawn when you go to BeanBean Castle Town and Little Fungitown.
***** If you looked at Lucahjin's comment section when she got to that part, you'd see that a lot of people apparently didn't know about it because they complained about how much that area was awful, even though there was an easy way out. You may also see me teaching them this trick in my own... unique way.
ShadyKnight9 Spiny Badge A does indeed work. I had that, and Great Force, equipped on Mario, while Luigi had the double exp thing on, and Mario was killing everything in a single hit, just from the pre-emptive strikes. I was rolling in exp!
'The Trick' you mentioned turned out to be pretty underwhelming. No offence, I just thought it would be something funny or a hidden detail.
You beat the bosses so quickly and easily. It took me like half an hour to fight bosses back in the day.

@@weirdkid5 There was supposed to be an entire gimmick where Cackletta split into duplicates of herself and you had to watch the attack patterns to find the right one. attack the wrong one and you get poison bats. Chuggaa with his stats, gear and chopper bros took her out before she could even use the duplicates.

The Malite Seriously, that's unnescessary. The only thing I'd say is that Goombas probably couldn't tie ropes...but Peach isn't that bad, and those who complain about her are conflating bad qualities onto her due to her demeanor-which is heroic in it's own way.

Fun fact: Teehee Valley is INCREDIBLY easier than Chugga makes it out to be in this video. Instead of immediately rescuing Peach after Toadsworth screws up, go through the level, KO'ing every enemy in the level until you get to Trunkle. Then go back and rescue Peach. The gates may be locked, but the enemies DON'T respawn. If you can time yourself, you'll get through the level easily. Then again, I was an EXP hound in this game...
I just started watching and just got to this episode. I want to personally thankyou for showing the music of teehee valley. It is my absolute favorite and as a kid I would stay in teehee for hours just to listen to the music. It was my favorite spot by far! And I was sooo happy to see you pay tribute to it

Did anyone notice the symbolism near the end? When Peach steps on the lift, she stands on the big mushroom with the crown, and Mario and Luigi stand on the blue mushrooms wielding spears. Pretty fitting, considering how they're basically acting as her personal guard.

I love this section! It's really fun rescuing her. Also seeing the bond and love that she and the Mario Bros. have for each other is so sweet when they rescue her.
This boss however was the bane of my existence when I was first playing this because I didn't know you could upgrade anything other than Heart Points. I also didn't know you could attack the tree on his head. I died so many times here.
Lol, reminds me of myself but with Partners in Time when I was younger, I never figured out I could upgrade anything besides HP, yet somehow got pretty far on my first play through.
I sure love escort missions. Still have nice memories of bringing Cinderella to the ballroom on critical mode in Birth by Sleep.

truepixartronphan Those aren't quite that bad, they're bad, but not to bad. Imagine an entire game that's an escort mission. That is the game Ico escorting a girl that's only use to you is to move statues with magic that you probably could have climbed over. She gets attacked by every enemy you ever see, moves incredibly slow and climbing takes forever, and if you leave her alone for too long there's a chance you might lose her and if you lose her instant game over.
At least that's the main goal of the game ... But how about a game where you can kill Parasites at the pace you want , and then get rewarded with THE most annoying escort mission character ... Damn you Ashley .

I always thought of the TeeHee Valley as an example of how to do escort missions well. The rules are very well defined. Don't let peach touch enemies and don't let her out of your sight. In a 2d game like Superstar Saga, that means just off screen, no bullshit about keeping her in camera or within an arbitrary distance from you. She also meets the perfect middle ground between a NPC that must be lead and one that moves on it's own. She doesn't have to be at your hip, but she walks in a specific pattern every time. If one fails and peach is kidnapped, there is a pipe to retrieve her on ever screen, and enemies don't respawn. All in all, if Peach gets caught, you can only blame yourself. There's no RNG, and you immediately understand what you did wrong when you fail, and fix it.
Soo thankful I hit a save before that boss battle, because I beat him last night and saved by doing a save state on Nintendo Online Membership on the Switch but I saved after fighting this boss without getting the Lucky Bros. Badge but I tried just restarting the game to see where I last saved in the actual game save. And thankfully I saved directly before the boss battle lol and I got the badge on my first try! Thanks for these let’s play playthroughs it has helped me a lot and your upbeat personality and love for this game is a nice plus too!
This boss made me quit the game. My cartridge is still at this point. But of course, I was playing without any help. I didnt get any coffee, barely ever used bros attacks. So i got to this fight and was doing single digit damage the entire time.
The best way to do it is to only attack the tree on top, not the body. Use chopper bros and knockback bros on the tree (jump attacks do just 1 damage). It has just 60 HP, so it goes down fast.

Yeah, I did see this part in the other LP of this game. You're right about this part being annoying, but as annoying as this part is, you actually did a good job with this part. You make it look so easy. You didn't get her kidnapped even once, so really good on you to do that.
I remember getting stuck here the first time I played this because I came here early and saw Trunkle just sleeping there. Wasn't sure what to do really but now I appreciate the detail

Teehee Valley has probably my favorite Mario Desert theme of ALL time! Gritzy Desert is amazing, don't get me wrong, but Teehee Valley is my number one favorite! And the remastered version in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions is even MORE awesome!

This was one of the few games I played when I was in middle school.
The thing was, I gotten the Bonus Ring from the cafe, which made me literally go through every boss, save-scumming trying to memorize every boss attacks without a guide and trying to not take any damage. Trunkle was one of the harder parts until I hit the berry part.
Took me so long to finish the game that my friends were amazed on how much time I spent on it.
Then again... I also did collect all the battlechips in Battle Network 5 legitimately (and painstakingly), which was another tale to tell...

You know a song is memorable when you can hum along to the tune after not hearing the song for 10 years.
It is interesting to me to see what things from this series were cut out by the time Dream Team, the only one I have fully played, came around. The peppers and hand attacks are nowhere to be seen, switching Luigi to the front, hammering Luigi into the ground, and I am sure there will be more to come. You don't even upgrade your hammer in dream team! I still love it, but it is fascinating to look from the first to the most recent game, excluding Paper Jam, which I am SO excited for.
If you're wondering "who is the composer for this game with amazing music" I actually just remembered today it's yoko shimomura, who did the music ALL the Mario and luigi games, ALL the kingdom hearts games, and was one of the composers for a game that most of the people on this channel probably haven't heard of, as it's kinda obscure and yeah it's xenoblade.
How can people not have heard about xenoblade on this channel when chuggaa made an lp of it and its his all time favourite game ever?

When I played this game as a kid, I actually did go all the way through Teehee Valley without Peach. I'd finished the airport but hadn't gone through the event in the castle that has Peach join you... for some reason.
Also, I had trouble with Trunkle when I was a kid. I'd read a walkthrough that said "use Bros attacks on the tree on his head for an easy win." It took me a few tries to realise that should have specificed HAMMER Bros Attacks. Trunkle has a massive resistance to Jump Bros Attacks, and I found that out the hard way. Then I decided to try Chopper Bros and he went down in two hits, I felt like a idiot. (At least I got to see his splitting attack the other time. It's interestingly similar to an attack Mrs Thwomp uses in Partners in Time... only Mrs Thwomp was WAY worse. Soooo much HP...)

Yeah, she's just one of those random Mario RPG bosses who's not really "evil" or anything, they just attack you randomly over some misunderstanding.
Nearly ever boss in Partners in Time was brutal, but Mrs Thwomp really stands out in my mind for some reason. I think the Japanese version heavily nerfed her HP because the fight would always take too long.
Hey Chugga, if you are afraid to save your game during a recording, why not make a save state on the Wii u where your recording begins, and save on the blocks when they come by. If something happens to the recording, you can still go back to that spot but also save the traditional way.
If Peach wasn't a stereotypical 50s woman, the games wouldn't work as well. Also, holy carp. How this place has evolved since 2008 with Captain Voice Crack Emile to the super LPer pro we have today almost makes me want to cry. Keep up the good work with entertaining all the fans. c:

Chugga, you were not the worst at this game as a kid. I could never get past teehee valley when I was little because the princess kept getting kidnapped. And I could barely defeat those goombas in that area. Pretty sure the worst player award would have gone to me.

I think that Trunkle was surprised to be woken up by Princess Peach, and then defeated by Mario and Luigi. He probably thought: "Stone the Bros., these guys are tough!"
Funny enough, when I was younger, I actually saw this game on youtube(to be more exact, I clicked a video that had TeeHee Valley on it, think it might've been a walkthrough, but whatever), and they were on this exact level when the video started out, and then I heard this song. Believe it or not, that's what made me wanna buy this game, seeing this section of the game, and hearing that music.

I feel like if I ever started a let's play of my own on this game, I'd start every episode with me having Mario punch Luigi in the balls as soon as I unlock Mario's "squash" ability.

Teehee Valley. I'm not afraid to say that this part took the better part of three years to beat, most of that spent on the trunkle.
Trunkle has an attack that actually scrolls the screen to the left a bit, so you see more of the battle field.
It's not until Dream Team where they exploit this to the extreme.
It was the summer of 2010, I was on a trip through the dangerous land of Australia. During the 7 hour bus rides between cities, there wasn't much besides chatting, foreign scenery and the occasional movie. All I had was my GBA and a recently purchased copy of Superstar Saga.
I had gotten to TeeHee Valley somewhere in the Outback of Queensland, so for miles off the highway was nothing but bushes and the occasional kangaroo. But dear God, I copied my file over just so I could listen to the music until we hit the next city or the batteries died.
I still beat the entire game during the long bus rides, but I dont think I can remember Australia without TeeHee Valleys music anytime soon
You and I had the exact same difficulties with Trunkle as kids. I didn't find out that attacking the tree would beat him easy until my third run of the game.

Back in my day your ol' uncle conroy listened to this music forever.
So as a note regarding Advanced Swing Bros and it's ability to steal items, it's actually possible to get multiple copies of one of a kind boss drops by using it.
First you successfully steal the item you wanted from the boss, (like Lucky Bros or Spike Badge A) then instead of beating the boss you purposefully let yourself be defeated.
Then once you get to the screen asking how you want to respawn, select the option to respawn at Beanbean Castle instead of restarting from your last save.
Since you didn't actually reload the game because you warped to Beanbean Castle instead of restarting, you will still have the item you stole in your inventory and the boss will still be alive, allowing you to repeat the process to get as many items as you please.
Chugga, your child self can rest easy because I suck at this game too (played it last week). Here's a list of things I never knew about.

-invisible blocks
-hidden chuckle beans
-Half of the mole guys locations
-That hidden bros attack
-How to use advanced bros attacks
-How to beat 90% of the bosses (the fights took me so long I needed to google how to beat them)
With the recent passing of Satoru Iwata, I feel like after this LP is done, it would be a good tribute to rerun Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings.
Yeah Teehee Valley was my initial reason for hating Peach. I also like how both of us thought the same thing about Little Fungitown (with them being fugitives escaping Peach's rule).
Anyways thank you for unequiping the Great Force as the double damage was making the boss battles too short. The Truckle battle was significantly better than the Popple and Rookie battle where they didn't even get the chance to show off their Bros Attacks.
The Teehee Valley theme is defiantly one of my favorites in this game.
I'm pretty sure you can only get the Lucky Bros. badge with Swing Bros. Advance (or the Gameboy Horror SP, but I don't think there are 35 Hoo Beans accessible at this point); the "rare" drops don't actually have a chance of dropping normally.

Slowly catching back up... a little something to note, I'm playing along with my own copy of Mario & Luigi: SuperStar Saga in time with each episode of the series that I watch right now.
On a different note, you can only steal one item at a time from each enemy (just in case no one has said anything) including bosses... Trunkle is an odd one because you can technically steal from him multiple times... but it is advisable that you allow him to reform after each time he splits, not only so that the item he carries resets so that you can steal again, but also so that he doesn't die from Swing Bros. move in his more vulnerable split state.

Letting Peach get kidnapped in Teehee Valley a few times is a great way of farming for EXP.

Ok,I played the remake version of this fight...and discovered you can no longer strike the tree,so it once and he will guard it afterward and as a result you can no longer damage the tree

Chugga, I think that once Peach moves on ahead of you with that dialog, you can literally leave her to explore other areas, or stay in that area you're in to dig up beans, go back to where she went, and she's fine and starts walking on cue. Does not get kidnapped at all! I once did that when I saw a few places I could branch off to in my childhood and refused to have to go back through again after the whole Peach segment and end up re-fighting the enemies and whatnot when I could get them right then. I was patient with video games, but not THAT patient! :P

also chugga you said that the cobalt necktie is an item you generally don't put onto luigi, but seeing as he naturally is a tank with his stat increases each level, people would give him more stache so he can make up for his lack of damage with critical hits

It's a shame that Luigi using thunderhand on a water-filled Mario was only used twice, and one of those times being optional and kinda hidden. It would've been cool if it was used more, such as if you filled a bucket by filling Mario and using thunderhand as Luigi, then Spin Jump into it to move it across a line or something, then hammer it to extinguish a fire or grow a plant or something.
I HATE the escort mission. It is tedious and boring. Plus, the princess is like "Let me walk as slow as possible so someone can capture me and so Mario and Luigi can rescue me again". TBH that is why I hate Peach in Mario and Luigi games…
