The UK government want a slice of the Chelsea sale, that's probably why they'r doing this plus they're getting pressured by the US government who dislike Abramovich and want to eliminate Oligarchs
So, you think you're clever? The oligarchs play essential roles in Putin’s Russia: They provide invaluable public support for the regime, lead key companies and institutions, and distract attention from and, by some accounts, help conceal the president’s own enormous wealth. As the jailed anti-corruption campaigner Alexei Navalny has been arguing for years, Putin’s continuing ability to exercise power requires the cooperation and support of others. Need I say more?
I dont understand hiw the club can continue business as usual financially especially with revenue drying up, and if sponsors cancel contracts, Sky tv money will likely be placed in escrow. So the club is being asked to operate on expenses with no income surely a recipe to go into administration. The UK government has essentially exporpriated Chelsea from Roman without compensation. The level of hypocrisy stinks. Was Roman not an oligarch when they accepted his investment into UK? For decades we take money from these Oligarchs...and saudis and others ...only to turn around and play holier than thou.

I've been a Chelsea fan since I was 12 and living in Zimbabwe and, way before I was savvy enough to know who the owner was. I remember watching Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba in one Champions League match and falling in love. Beyond the owner being a Russian oligarch and his ruthlessness in regards to managers I never knew about how he made his billions or cared really. I was purely invested in the team and its success on the filed as most fans I'm sure. In the back of my mind I guess I just figured if he was allowed to own a football club in England then the people in charge of that sort thing thought he was fit to do so. If the authorities and big wigs gave him a pass why would a fan care beyond the actual performance of the team? I ask this because I see a lot "sudden expects" pointing the finger of blame towards Chelsea fans as to blame for ignoring Abramovich's dodge activities and colleagues. Do you think the average NUFC fan will two figs about the controversies surrounding their new owners if their team is moving in the right direction? Ask them if they would rather have Mike Ashley back...... Anyway please stop shaming fans for who the owner of the club is. Rather, question those who approved the sale in the first place. I don't really care what happens to Abramovich personally, all I want is the best possible outcome for the club I love.
If a country can arbitrary do that, surely other investors will think twice before doing the same, Abramovich is the role model of club ownership in football, his early success is an example and as the uk agenda against him.
Abramovich has only got himself to blame. I told him repeatedly. "Roman, old chap," I said, "You will have to do more than just own Chelsea. well, the sanctions are only being applied (as I understand them) to people who are propping up and aiding putin. So, given that RA is being sanctioned, it seems reasonable to conclude that he's somehow helping putin, be it monetarily, known friendly associate, however. The more pressure put on the people who depend on putin for protection, for bonuses, for perks, for special treatment, then in turn it is hoped they will exert pressure on putin to stop his war. There's more to it and many different facades to what is going on, but that's the basic idea.
@@blackenedsprite8542 That seems like a bit of stretch. But I think Putin and his associates must have foreseen measures like this being taken and are prepared for it.

Little to none of his UK assets are held in cash. The majority is held in property and businesses which can't be easily moved in 10 days.
Yea. He is a genius.
Oh wait. He has 3 bil tied up to a football club he cannot sell!
Yeah that's why he also acquired Israeli and Portuguese nationalities.
Dude these are war time measures. Every Russian asset is under microscope. They are even monitoring crypto flow.
The latest I've just read is that the club can be sold as long as Abramovitch doesn't gain any financial advantage from it. What will happen to the money paid is undecided at this time.
he said he will donate all
Why would he sell it if he is not gaining anything from it! I don't trust he will be donating 3 billion in charity trust 😏

It’s so stupid 1. Roman had nothing to do with Russia’s decision sin politics and war 2. Chelsea an English football club has nothing to do with Russia doing war and stuff 3. The UK know chelsea haven’t done anything so why are they sticking by the same strict rules when they know they should let chelsea carry on as the same football club they have always been with Roman staying in charge
Roman has bought Putin a $30m yacht… Roman has a lot to do with the person who made the decision to go to war

Im a Chelsea fan but stop being a moron. Roman recommended Putin as a successor to Yeltsin… If you support the economic sanction against Russia, it’s only fair that Oligarchs with political influence are sanctioned.
Sounds like it would also mean they're not even allowed to sell players, so for players who want to leave can't unless their contract runs out or Chelsea agrees to terminate the contract.
Half of their defence are out of contract in the summer. They won't be able to sign extensions and the club could lose them for nothing.

I am so glad that Roman abramovich's assets have been frozen and that he is not allowed to get any money out of selling Chelsea! The one thing that I think would be an even bigger slap in the face to a brahmovitch is if the government allows business to go on as usual when it comes to spectators and fans and selling tickets. That would go over well with supporters who purchased their tickets
@@AQUIENLASALA yes i understand it, but i asked this question more from a legal PoV, like if they want to, could they do it?
You have an interesting point. Technically the fans who have bought tickets, if you life for want of a better term have paid for a service, which includes food, etc. So they have a contract with the club.
Say you give tickets away, you are now allowing fans in who can buy food and drink, which would be a new transaction. Where one not has existed before. Which could be argued breaches the terms.
Also would this apply to away fans? If you allow for home supporters it would be unfair to not give a free allocation to away support.

This man as it has been said time and time again, two years ago, instead of furloughing the Chelsea staff, continued to pay them in full, gave the NHS exclusive use to use parts of Stamford Bridge and during his 19 years at Chelsea, away from the club has helped provide investment into the West London region (e.g including our three other WL rivals. These good things that one person does are completely ignored by a group of idiots in their parliament house, because they hate Abramovich and believe that he is either a terrorist or illegal oligarch. Maybe the politicians should be banned from from coming to Stamford Bridge if this is what they want. They are completely out order, attacking the staff who work at the club, the players and the fans. If this had happened to Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Spurs or Man City, there would not be any huge booboo about it because they believe they are a special case or something, but when it comes to Chelsea - they have an agenda.
But Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs are not owned by a man who launders money for the Kremlin.

It’s because all of a sudden the UK Government needs their owner’s oil now more than ever
I don't know who handles this in the UK, the Home Secry? In the US I would think it would be the Justice Dept. I think BOJO could put together something, that the club is sold, and the money goes into trust. Some would rather topple the Gov't than see Chelsea not make the Champions League. Affter all this isn't a home or a yacht.
Yes, this is a business, not a luxury toy, many businesses will be affected and people's income, but that's the clowns running this country.
