Do piston rings affect engine temperature? In a recent dyno test session a surprising difference in engine temperature was observed when the thickness of the piston rings were changed.
The filter with the melted label showed just how hot the motor oil became in the controlled test session. Lake Speed Jr. and the guys at Shaver Specialties Racing Engines measured the impact of changing piston ring size and tension on the operating temperature of both the water and oil.
