Yup! The 4r70w transmission is actually quite tough and will last for hundreds of thousands miles, IF you change the fluid every 60-70k. I also HIGHLY recommend doing the J-Mod, as it helps shifting and longevity.
If you're buying straight from a PD/auction higher mileage might actually be better as fleet management may have fixed a lot of these things. I had an 09 CVPI got it with 44k miles and nearly all of those issues you mentioned happened before 85k.
the way some cop cars and other vehicles get sold in a large city is by the cost per mile..a new car is say 1$ a mile to operate, if a car needs repair and that repair puts the cost per mile at 1.30$ per mile the car will be sold without being repaired..all municipalities will sell vehicles as is, and will not disclose any damage or repairs needed..buyer beware..
This was a great video. Covered EXACTLY the things I wanted to see prior to looking at my first Crown Vic. You're a charasmatic, funny and informed content creator. Consider me subscribed!
I wonder why a 2007 was on the stay away list? The only problem I have had is when I changed the trans fluid and lost 3rd and 4th gear with 122K and 6K idle hours. Had the trans rebuilt for $1,100 with a warranty. At 135K it still runs great after new plugs, coils and fuel filter. Anybody know of tires that don't cost a fortune for these cars? Thanks Steve
I really appreciate you, I’m getting my first 1999 crown Vic this month and this was very informative, gain a lot of knowledge and feel comfortable on getting one.

I just ran into your channel a day or two ago. Man your last line about these cars being addicting is so true. I bought a 99 vic about 11 years ago. Got it at 130k and surprisingly the transmission never gave out on me. Did have to change the fuel pump and the manifold went out at like 155k lol. Sold it in 2018 after I bought my 07 mustang gt. Fast forward and I have a 2014 5.0 and I’m about to pull the trigger on this 2011 PI. Man I’ve missed my Vic the day after I sold it. And I beat the hell out of that car all the way to 270k miles. But I’m hoping to be back in the game with the panther next to my coyote
i'm still on my 1st transmission in my 2008 crown vic 212,000 miles, i don't know if its the original or not, the police department could have replace it, who knows
We should all form a national Crown Vic fan club. I am going through the dreaded intake manifold experience right now with my 2008 crown vic lx. It is only a small leak, but just smelling the coolant and seeing a bit of a wet area in the back of the intake manifold makes me sweat with fear, but I think it should be all right. if everyone has survived this experience I am sure my crown vic will not let me down.
After driving a 1996 and a 2001 and replacing similar things on both cars. I was just driving a LX model car that was upfitted for a police department and then never put it in service. The crown vics I had where very quick off the line and got really good mileage driving around the city and on the interstate. I was happy to get 25+ mpg on the regular. The cars where very tough cars but rust on the frame by the steering gearbox was an issue and caused a lot of problems. The engine and trans where never an issue for either car and they both had a ton of miles on them and a lot of hard miles also.
First car was a 96 stock engine and trans crown handled everything I throw at it. Drifted right into a 10 inch oak tree, and pushed my rear axle 6 inches to the passenger side. Pounded it about straight and drove it for another 50k and I only lost 800 buck
Top 5 problems owners have reported to experience on the 2nd generation Ford Crown Victoria, years 1998 to 2012. 1. Loose Spark Plugs Symptoms: Loud drilling noise from the engine, rough idle and steering wheel is shaking, acceleration problems 3. Idle Air Control (IAC) Solenoid Failure Symptoms : High RPMs at idle, erratic running engine 4. Intake Manifold Leaks Symptoms : Ticking noise when the engine is cold, smell of exhaust fumes 5. Heater Mode Switch Causing Vent Problems Symptoms: Heater mode switch is not working and no audible vacuum noise from the vents when the switch is turned
Any advice for someone who just got an 07. It says on this vid that 07 were no good. I bought mine with 140k, and 1200 idle hrs. As soon as I bought it, I did plugs, coil packs, fuel filter, belt and oil change. I heard if I buy an extended trans pan, it'll help the life of the trans. Anything else?

Not planning on abusing it. Just like the comforts, space and of course, the look.. Let's keep in touch.
I have a 2004 Police interceptor and a 1997 LX with that deep forest green with the sparkles in it 😁 I'm going to get a 2011 Police interceptor possibly with a street appearance package, but I prefer the normal police interceptor black interior with no carpet.. so I might just get another regular police interceptor again. it's so easy to get these cars.. Even though they no longer allowed them to sell in America after 2011, there are so many of them for sale everyday.
All of the pulleys on the front of the motor are susceptible to fail due to the idle hour. My 07 with 120,000 miles, the water pump was the first to go. great video, thanks. 2 questions: 1- why is idle hours so bad? 2 - is the intake manifold problem inherent in the modular 4.6L engine? so it can affect the other panther body cars and the mustang?
I found a vic 2006 160 thousand kilometers with 500 hours of idle time? Body not perfect peeling paint and little bitnof rust on wheel well. Should I jump on that over an 03 with 150k perfect paint and body but unsure of idle hours until tomorrow and a 3 hour drive

Just got a 1993 SAP Crown Vic with only 95,000 on it. Would this be a unicorn if even a bit of grey hair on it?
great video, thanks.
2 questions:
1- why is idle hours so bad?
2 - is the intake manifold problem inherent in the modular 4.6L engine? so it can affect the other panther body cars and the mustang?
To answer question 1, the idle hours are so bad because some were used for cops and cops would idle in them a lot as they do and I can’t answer 2
The one that was manufactured in Canada
I'm in Cancun the car is in Merida
had my 05 for about a yr now only issue I have had is pass side window and sometimes lights for radio don't work .
U r the coolest cop ever 👊
What’s the best year and all to make a first track race car out of
You never mentioned 2008 Crown Vics. Should I stay away from them or are they normally decent?
My 2008 is great. Doesn’t have cruise control. My manifold cracked at 97K miles. Nothing else is bad.
