Toth Tarot Tutorials and Fortunes Wheelhouse are amazing for insights into Toth. And just like we now acknowledge Pixie, Lady Harris was much more of a driving force for the deck than is credited, her personality and intelligence shine through along her amazing skill at sacred geometry. I now love her work just as much as Pixies 👏🏿⭐️🌞
I love Thoth as a system, and I love the art. I have the standard purple box and large-card green box (both from U.S. Games) as well as the luscious Tabula Mundi Colores Arcus (with decans cards) and I can say, it takes a lot of study and application to develop a real working understanding of it. It's not for everyone, of course, but for those with a mind to it, Thoth tarot can be a transformative experience. Happy trails!
I was totally confused by this deck but I binged watched Tarot oracle Thoth reader course, and now it makes a little more sense to me . Highly recommend his course.
Love the Thoth deck. It’s an inspired masterpiece. I don’t much care about Kabbalah or astrology, it’s the art that draws me in. That hermit is simply stunning. For me it’s the Fool card that I don’t like, but the rest of the deck is exquisite. Most other decks pale by comparison, like cartoons compared to the feature film....
This was my first deck! A German edition with tiny cards but a big fat book. I loved the artwork straight away and it held a lot of meaning for me. Interesting how some people connect with it and some don't.
This was my first deck too. I got the big green box out of the blue from a friend and went on an epic journey all by myself. I still love this deck. I feel closer to it than most, and I still have a lot to learn!
Oh these are stunning with the gilding, I do and have always found Crowley fascinating irrespective of the bad reputation and yet was never really drawn to this deck but you've just changed my mind. Thank you so much xxx
Crowley loved ancient myths and , on the other hand, also used psychedelics. His Tarot Cards tried to put toghether these two realms and depict some mistical visions as they really are! And it's never an easy task depict astral energies. In this deck the painter used a particular geometry that resembles some sacred geometry patterns that shift the angle of vision from limited to infinite. To understand it some psychedelic experience is needed. This tarot is an amazing world of energies that comes from Extasy, contact with Gods and Sex Magik!
It’s been a minute since I connected to your channel or the fb group, yet it’s great to search for you featuring this type of deck! So good to reconnect! Thank you for such quality and connectedness within our community! All the love. 🙏
At first I felt that I didn't had any interest in Toth but when I saw Elaines video, she woked up my interest so now I am waiting for my cards and book too. I also like her very very much. She is always so calm, nice and interesting to see. 😊
Re colour; each of the 10 sephirot (bits if the tree) in the kabbalah system has a colour scale of four shades associated with it. The Thoth cards were designed to use those colours to capture the energy and feel of each sephirot at it's 4 levels. The Golden Dawn had a colour scale and colour names were taken from a commercial artists paint company range, which is in part why Harris could use them so skillfully, the deck was initially commissioned as a set of large paintings.
I highly recommend reading Lon Milo DuQuette's book. The colours were specifically chosen with meanings behind them--they're not simply to provide a "theme" for each suit. There's also in-depth explanations for the "change" in the order of the major arcana as well as the nature of the court cards :) Love & light
Love my Thoth deck to clarify a sticky spot in any reading. The super sized cards I have lend weight to the message. Often it's the astrological aspects that help the most. Angeles Arrien wrote an amazing handbook for learning the iconography of the Thoth. It is called "The Tarot Handbook" but it is all Thoth.
I learned with RWS and don't own a Thoth. However I am a FWA podcast nerd and enjoyed hearing Susie and Mel breakdown the symbolism of both RWS and Thoth card by card. I just bought Mel's Pharos deck, inspired by the lighthouse of Alexandria and though it isn't a thoth deck, it has thelema imagery. Lon Milo's book has been really helpful in learning about Thoth and he takes an irreverent look at Crowley. One thing I enjoy is each chapter begins with quotes from Harris and Crowleys letters to each other during the deck creation process. They bickered, collaborated, dreamed, travelled together. That humanised them both for me, though Crowley still strikes me as unpleasant!
RWS and Thoth both came out of the Golden Dawn, they are closer to each other than they are different to each other and for that reason I have no problem switching between them. The obvious and greatest difference is with the minors, I see the RWS minors as describing actions and Thoth minors as describing energies. Three card readings are my favorite using Thoth, I keep pulling minors until I get a picture card, courts included, the majors or courts on top are most of the answer with the underlying minors giving great depth and detail. Currently loving Renata Lechner’s Millennium Thoth, closely follows the Harris Crowley deck but is a fabulous update. I love and use both but rarely touch the traditional Marseille style, that’s one for another year/lifetime. 😉
I always couldn't connect with Thoth either. I found a great alternative. The Thoth inspired Tabula Mundi Tarot by MM Meleen. The pictures are stunningly drawn with vibrant color and the backs are out of this world! My favorite card is the Fool.
I have a Thoth deck, and I never really connected with it either. There's also a book called Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo DuQuette.
Nice book in that kit. I hope you get on with this edition. Thanks for sharing. I’ve just started studying Thoth this year and have been really enjoying reading the book Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo DuQuette ✨📚
I have only met one person who regularly read with these cards. I have some 1982 ones that were gifted to me, an unopened green box and book set and Gerd Ziglers book which is in a box set with these cards. ...I wont add but will shift all but one when I downsize soon I'm not fond of them.
Well done you for giving it a try. Its good to challenge ourselves. If you learn by listening check out Fortunes Wheelhouse podcast. Its Mel Meleen and T Susan Chang. They go through every card of the Tabula Mundi deck. Its Thoth based and do a deep dive into the esoteric history of the cards. Most of it goes totally over my head but you so pick up some interesting information. 🙂
Those gold thoth cards look absolutely amazing i was wondering where you got them as i'm a bit of a fanatic when it come to thoth and like collecting all the different decks out there
@@the_hermits_cave How much did it cost? I tried to find it on amazon earlier today and it said that it was unavailable is the gold thoth rare or something??
Keep going Simon! If you can already swim (Thoth), why do you need armbands? (RWS) 😉 Once you map the tree of life across to our own consciousness and it’s journey, you’re there. He’s much misunderstood too and most sadly fall for the tabloid-driven, sensationalist tosh that was written about him. Do What Thou Wilt!
I'm not really a reader, but I do collect some Tarots, mainly for the aesthetics, and in fact I find the art work on Thoth outstanding, perhaps even unsurpassed, though I think Deviant Moon comes very close indeed. In fact it was the gorgeous quality of the graphics on Thoth that inspired me to look at other decks. I don't yet have a Marseille - what would be my best choice for that?
I was always convinced this deck was "redone" much in the same way Mary Hanson Roberts re-coloured the standard RWS. I have the large "green" deck from the early 90s and the colours are much subtler and subdued. This deck is as you say a little more saturated and I find the images a bit sharper. I lost my booklet but I think in there it said that at first they thought only the mint could print this deck and be faithful too it because of the detail. From what I understand one of the first runs was very poor quality, but theyve improved them since. Some of the decks after the green one had alternative Magicians as well. Thanks for the great video! : )
I like the art in the Thoth Deck but I’ve never been drawn to Kabbalah or Egyptian symbolism and I HATE keywords in a Tarot deck so I’ve never been particularly drawn to this deck... But, like you said, I have several RWS, TdM, and Pip Decks so I felt I needed at least one Thoth deck in my collection and a beautiful copy from the early ‘80s (with the 3 versions of the Magician) came up for sale on one of my Tarot groups so I bought it as more of a collector’s piece... Like I said, I really do like the artwork so I do want to study the deck more and maybe pick up a copy I don’t mind using more without fear of damaging it in use and the Edition you showed may be just the thing! I don’t think I’ll ever convert to it but it never hurts to expand your knowledge and style of reading!

@@the_hermits_cave I bought this one and another version to trim. It's in (one of) my latest video. I preferred to trim the other version and I wouldn't want a gilded deck right now
I had to do a double take when I saw the title. Simon, ya wuuuht? Lol. I’m interested to see how you get on with it. Lady Frieda’s art is actually quite beautiful and I think this deck should only be large format to really enjoy it. Crowley is unapproachable in many ways which I think is why ppl are turned off by this deck. But keeping open and letting it wash over you and seeing how both Marseilles and rws kind of overlap in some ways helps imo. Also I personally don’t resonate with many of the keywords used in it so I kind of ignore them and that helps. I’m still an rws gal, but I do like Thoth. I hope you enjoy this new larger version you have 😊
Great vid as always thanks for showing this deck. I have the small & larger version. I got the larger one to see all the details & symbols. Yes this is a deck takes time to get to know. I'm no expert but I find using color meanings help. I agree you said you wanna see the wheat & lush flowers with the empress. That card has green in it a link & connection to health, growth, & nature. The emperor is red & red is connected with power, ambition, & passion. Attributes that one might hope a ruler has. I hope this gives you a lil help in working with Thoth happy readings. Peace & Bliss

A lot of people say that the Thoth pops and connects with them once it's been trimmed. Will you trim this? I agree with a lot of people who say listen to Fortune's Wheelhouse. I know this video is in no way intended to be funny but to me it was 🤣 also the way you said ‘Aleister Crowley’ there was vehemence behind it 🤣🤣 I could just tell from the way you were going through the cards that you weren’t digging it 😆 but I think it’s great you gave your honest opinion, we can’t like all decks. I like the larger cards better for sure and may get this edition so that I have a Thoth deck in my collection 😍❤️
I love the art on them like its amazing. However they feel cold emotionally to me. I really want to live them but they just don't hit me like rider waite does.
I really like the minors, some of them are lovely. I can live without the rest. I will pick up a deck if I ever see one for cheap or for trade, otherwise... Crowley is not my favourite historical person but I have learned over the years (in most cases) to seperate the creator of any art from their work. A few scummy exceptions but I could happily enjoy this guy's art if I loved it. I believe the RW guy was a bit sketchy too *meh*
Yes Arthur E Waite was no saint. However, I’ve never jived with Pictorial Key it makes little sense. I’ve always seen the RWS as Pixie’s deck in the main.
Ah Simon, thank you for your lovely praise. I agree, It is lovely to have an original of each especially copies you feel more comfortable with. I have been using the Thoth in conjunction with the Mary K Greer book - Tarot for Yourself. I am finding her way of working with the Thoth much 'gentler' in style. Once again, thank you for the lovely shout out and the generous praise 🥰 PS... I Had quite a day today 2 Tarot decks and 4 oracle decks reviewed and posted up, 4 of which arrived by courier today... oops! 🙈🙉🙊😂
Eventhough, I love borders on cards, this is the only deck I would ever trim. Sacred Geometrically designed. If you put them side by side, they match up, somehow!... I believe possibly in reverse too.
I still wish they'd issued a pumped up saturated color one, borderless (then maybe add a gold edge). I was wondering why you'd bought another when you already had one....Yes, I was going to suggest (as TarotOracle commented below) checking out his readers course. Might be easier for you than slogging through a book.
Thats my favorite deck! My first purchase for my practice as a matter of fact. I love the art of Lady Freida Harris.also i was holding your Hermit card from 2019 Tarothon Deck i created. Id like to send you your card if youd like to receive it!🖤

This is my favourite deck, however I bought Crowleys Book of Thoth with it and was entirely confused - fast forward months of study with Hermetic Qabalah, numerology and astrology (Lon milo duquette is a good source) and now Crowleys book makes perfect sense and the cards are a work of genius and magick. Its its own language literally so you have to learn it :D good luck everyone!
He initially didn’t want to do it. It was Frieda who repeatedly convinced him and offered to use her bohemian contacts around London to secure funding. He had turned 60, was in poor health and cashless but this point.

Yes Arthur E Waite was no saint. However, I’ve never jived with Pictorial Key it makes little sense. I’ve always seen the RWS as Pixie’s deck in the main.
Pixie was nice? I keep meaning to read about her but I am lost in series of Sabbat books so she will have to wait =)
I love all the systems and I learned with my beloved RWS. But, I have been loving studying the Thoth for my channel Thoth series! Fun Fun!😝 🤗
YAY!!!
I Had quite a day today 2 Tarot decks and 4 oracle decks reviewed and posted up, 4 of which arrived by courier today... oops! 🙈🙉🙊😂
Oh wow, I shall look forward to watching those 😉
Eventhough, I love borders on cards, this is the only deck I would ever trim. Sacred Geometrically designed. If you put them side by side, they match up, somehow!... I believe possibly in reverse too.
I can’t jive with the Thoth, tried but no connection. Cards are beautiful though . 😘
Id like to send you your card if youd like to receive it!🖤
I’d love it thank you! Are you up for it this year?
@@the_hermits_cave ok awesome im glad you want it. You can email me your address and ill get it out this week. With a few small gifts if thats ok🖤 and yes id love to be a part of 2020 Tarothon. Do you have a date picked yet?
This is my favourite deck, however I bought Crowleys Book of Thoth with it and was entirely confused - fast forward months of study with Hermetic Qabalah, numerology and astrology (Lon milo duquette is a good source) and now Crowleys book makes perfect sense and the cards are a work of genius and magick. Its its own language literally so you have to learn it :D good luck everyone!
There you are! You’re everywhere!
I hope it’s me, on my channel! 😝
The images and portraits seemed to be detached and aloof to me as the reader. Plus Crowley jams 15 lbs. of manure in a 5 lb. bag.
He initially didn’t want to do it. It was Frieda who repeatedly convinced him and offered to use her bohemian contacts around London to secure funding. He had turned 60, was in poor health and cashless but this point.
Way to be open-minded...lol. 😉
It’s not going well! 🥴
The Hermit’s Cave LOL.....at least you tried. I am sure somebody will adopt it if you decide to rehome it.
Before i entered youtube and started watching videos by the witches community i thought i was the only person who collects taro cards.
Lol, it just goes to show!
Interesting.....but I am not tempted.
Well, not for me, definitely !😉 no Thoth or Crowley’s energy... But as it’s “art”, there are plenty of choices and that’s ok. I stay tuned to the RWS.
