Hi Toycat. I would like to correct you in that the A319 flight from LCY is in fact a A318 flight. A318s are the biggest aircraft to operate from LCY and BA specifically bought them for those LCY-SNN-JFK flights. And also that Haneda has flights to New York aswell. Otherwise very informative video!

    Toronto has two airports:
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the main airport with many airlines flying to places all around the world. It is located just outside the city limits in Mississauga. It is the busiest airport in Canada.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) is the original Toronto airport and is located downtown on an island in the harbour. You can buy tickets on at least three airlines to a couple of dozen different destinations in Eastern Canada and the Eastern U.S. It has 11 gates but is limited to destinations within about 500nm due to its short runway (4000 feet). It is either the 9th or 10th busiest airport in Canada depending whether you are counting passengers or aircraft movements.
Until recently, you had to take a ferry to get to YTZ, but they recently built a pedestrian tunnel. You can still take the ferry if you want, and park your car on the island. The ferry only takes about one minute as it is only a 400 foot journey.
Vancouver and Victoria both have two airports as well. They each have a large international airport, but also both have water aerodromes in their downtown harbours with many airlines flying to regional destinations (including international flights to Seattle).
Vancouver Harbour Control Tower is the only one in Canada specifically for a water aerodrome. It is on top of the Granville Square building and is 142m high (possibly the highest control tower in the world). Vancouver Harbour to Victoria Harbour has been a particularly busy route, with 3 or 4 airlines flying hourly flights.

Pretty clueless about LaGuardia. It handles 30 million passengers a year, not a "very small proportion of the population." That's more than an airport like Stanstead. If you closed it, there would be utter chaos. The delays at the NYC airports are caused by not enough airport runway slots to handle the traffic, not airspace restrictions. LGA currently undergoing a $2.5 billion total rebuild. And it's pronounced with a W sound, like Lah-Gwar-dee-ah.
Fun Fact, LaGuardia was built after NYC mayor LaGuardia was flying from Chicago to New York in the 1930s, and refused to get off the plane when it landed at Newark, pointing to his ticket that said New York, not New Jersey.

You missed out one of London's airports - London Manston Airport, which is in East Kent. OK, it is currently closed and non-operative, but most of the local population and both of the local MPs are trying to get it to open again. It has had different names in the past, such as Manston Airport, RAF Manston & Kent International Airport, but it has also had London in the name - by train, it is about as close to the centre of London, time-wise, as Heathrow.

Once Moscow had an airport much closer to the city center (you can still see it in local toponymy - there's a metro station called Aeroport on the NW part of the green line, which is where that airport was located), but as the city grew up in size after WW2 these territories became completely surrounded by housing districts, so airport couldn't grow in size to get the bigger airplanes and had to be replaced with newer ones well outside the city. Though by now housing districts of Moscow suburbs are starting to surround three out of four existing airports as well, and there's little space for expansion even as the demand for flights to/from Moscow grows...

LaGuardia is used mostly by domestic air carriers, however it can accept some internatioal flights, mostly from Canadian or Caribbean destinations with a Customs preclearance facility. While it is the closest, the fact that it is not easily accessible via public transportation (must take a bus from the subway) and due to flight restrictions, the farthest destination it serves is Denver. This leaves both Newark and JFK handling most direct long distance flights across the USA (mainly NYC to many west coast cities).
You also mentioned the lack of privitization (non-government owned airports) in US airports. Stewart was part of a trial in the early 2000s to see if an airport can be privately owned. A British company was given a 99 year lease for $35m and a percentage of revenue, however after only 7 years, they sold the remaining 93 year lease back to another government agency for $75m. The main reason for the sale is unclear but some cite declining passenger counts and airlines ending service just after a huge capital improvement project worth at least $10m.

Emirates flies to Stansted because of their new cabin onboard their 777-300ER’s. They didn’t want to reduce capacity on their Dubai to Heathrow and Gatwick flights, since the 777 is smaller than the planes they fly to both of those high-demand slot restricted airports. So they instead flew to Stansted, which was never previously served by the airline

If the location isn’t an issue I would actually recommend Southend airport

Berlin Schönefeld is very well connected to Berlin by regional trains, s-Bahn and bus. The s-Bahn takes you through most major train stations in the city center and you can connect to trains going all over the city very easily. And it costs only €3.40 to get anywhere on the s-bahn/u-bahn network. Compare that to London Underground or national rail connections from airport to city.

Oh, As of 2022 "BER" or Berlin Brandenburg is fully functioning, while Tegel and Schönfeld are both shut down. I moved to Germany in 2021 and I flew directly to Berlin Brandenburg. It's quite modern and nice there actually, I would recommend it :) Also it has a direct train (two actually) to the City Center. A roughly 40 Minute train ride for €3,60 isn't bad. In my home country Sweden you either have to pay €30 (or €15 if your under the age of 26) to get from the airport directly in 20 min, or else you have to take the bus and than change and it will take you an hour xD

As for Bangkok: usually a city that serves as a major travel hub gets more "visits", which counts people just passing through. It's a similar reason to why France is the country with the most "tourists", its central location in Europe means a lot of people travel THROUGH France and don't necessarily stick around long.
And as for Bangkok, a pretty easy free-visa-on-arrival deal helps

The Moscow segment is hilarious to me as a Moscow resident that would take at least a flight a year to India and usually another to a different country because we literally chose the airports based on the price and nothing else. Realistically it was Sheremetyevo or Domodedova, however when we flew to Egypt in 2009, we flew from Vnukovo (head of state airport) on a charter flight. While it's the only one I've been to once, we pass by it regularly in the summer since it's on the highway to our Dacha (google it tbh, basically a country house. But not. )

El Al fly their 747 to Bangkok, but interestingly, it takes longer than a connecting flight with a 1h layover. Take a look at the LY81 flight path from TLV to BKK, politics is extremely interesting.
Bangkok has two different types of tourists, those from the west looking for a cheap, but exotic holiday. The major type though is those on stopover from SE Asia to mainland Asia and visa-versa. It beats out Singapore due to Airasia and NokSkoot's hub at Don Mueang, attracting stopover passengers. An interesting thing with those airlines is that they price PER SEGMENT, so adding stopovers and/or starting/finishing from a different airport does not attract extra charges as most airlines do.
The most common tourist in Bangkok is Chinese, as Thailand maintains a "healthy" relationship with the country. China doesn't have a great relationship with South Korea (due to North Korea relations), Taiwan (obvious reasons), Japan (ancient) and Vietnam (modern historical). Since the government monitors travel movements, and gives people "social credits" based on their actions, travel to these countries could be risky. Therefore, the closest large city therefore from southern China is Bangkok, hence the large amount of tourism.
Also missing from the list are other major cities with top-50 airports in Asia, such as: Taipei, Shanghai, Seoul.

Technically you could add teterboro to the NY list because although you can't land there from a random location, they'll delivery you anywhere you want from there.
Also, Newark is deceivingly close to Manhattan. JFK is much better connected to the city than Newark, so it could take you double the time from Newark to the city.

a lot of people don’t realise greater LA has about five airports!
    - LAX (by far the biggest and busiest)
    - burbank (very small, domestic. all five major carries fly in but it’s DOMINATED by southwest)
    - long beach (big jetblue hub)
    - ontario (pretty small, farther out in the IE, a few domestic routes, one to guadalajara and one to taipei)
    - santa ana (VERY small but moderately busy, in orange county, close to disneyland so decent tourist traffic)
    THEN there’s the GA airports
    - van nuys (one of if not the busiest airport in the world by aircraft movements)
    - whiteman (like most, VERY small)
    - santa monica
    - torrance
    - fullerton
    - san bernardino (gets cargo flights and has a passenger terminal, as far as i’m aware they’re trying to get passenger flights)
    AND THEN
    - palmdale isn’t too far from a good chunk of people and has been proposed as an LAX substitute
    - san diego is only a couple hours away

    • @eeeeeoww
