Hey, Calamity dev and creator of the Sahara Slicers here, this was a cool video and you had some good input about the shortswords! The whole class except for Sahara Slicers and Cosmic Shiv will probably get reworked sometime in the future (no guarantee it's anytime soon though!). There's plenty of fun and interesting concepts to explore with these kinds of weapons.
Hey! I think mechanically the Sahara slicers are by far my favourite of the run, but considering how long you have to use them I could only put them in A rather than S. having an option between the scourges would be real nice, as it’s definitely the largest gap currently for the subclass
I think shortswords would be much benefited from leaning into fixed attack patterns over the broadswords' generally circular arcs. Like, they don't necessarily need to have pitiful range, maybe something like a plus pattern, or a gladius-style forward flurry would help them be viable and interesting while keeping the feel of the original shortsword patterns.
Honestly I love the Sahara Slicers, they're such an interesting idea and I love it. I wish more melee weapons were like that xP If they were, I might try Melee instead of Mage.
I'm really loving the direction you guys are taking with new weapons and reworks, they have great actually unique and fun mechanics and really good visuals
@@VasiliyOgniov I don't remember exactly but I think it was due to them being irrelevant as there where much better and harder hitting weapons at the points of time you would get them, Like for exo-gladius why use that when you could either use the exoblade or Murasama
@@angrymoose7777strange how they didn’t consider reworking them to be different, there’s already a ton of weapons you’re never gonna use because they’re outclassed
@@angrymoose7777 if this is true, then it is a really dumb reason. In the same vein you could argue "Why use P-HM ore swords, when you have Blade of Grass (relatively) easily available?" or "Why use minishark, when you have Boomstick?". Not every single weapon should be OP. Moreover, I'd argue that not every weapon should be good. They have to be fun, though and as far as I concerned EXO Gladius was fun. At the very least it had its gimmick and use case
To be fair, I can also say that the Brittle Star summoner weapon is one of the best in pre-hardmode on a minion only challenge run. The reasoning? There aren't many minion-focused weaopns that can do what it does - the stars fly, deal somewhat small but very consistent damage and don't make you feel like you have to constantly reposition yourself to be able to deal damage.
I binge watched your other content and other play through a during my stay at a hospital, and now I’m home and able to watch this. They helped me get thru it all and was very entertaining. Thank you❤️

honestly, i think one of the biggest issues with shortswords late game is the fact that pretty much all the bosses are programmed to stay like half a screen or more away for most of the time, so a really short range weapon would be literally impossible to use, and you would never be able to hit anything
As (to my knowledge) the first person to ever upload a run of Calamity Shortswords Only to TH-cam, this gets my stamp of approval. Top job mate. (And as someone who's had a 20+ minute fight of my own against Aquatic Scourge, I know your pain.)

Hmm, I think one big point here is that a good few bosses are literally untouchable without range given by projectiles. In this regard, I think the Starlight earns some respect for trying to stick to a true melee feel. It's projectiles extend the sword but don't fly off. Plus it kinda looks cooler in action lol. The cool factor alone would have been enough for me to use it over the other viable options at that stage.
Ok, thanks, now i know a lot more about calamity, i did so much wrong on my ?first ever Time? (Not really, i cheated every time after plantera) now i will do my first ever death-expert calamity play through

Yeah, dudn't think it was possible at first, but then you tanked several boss attacks in a row- that's when i knew it would be easy. I'm just used to getting oneshot when playing calamity, cause my melee playthrough was on master+revengeance.
This was a heavily nerfed version of the submarine shocker. About 4 months ago I used it to kill dog and it was still good. And with the right true melee buff on single target I got 20k dps
It's significantly easier to fight the Empress on a skybridge. That way, you can drop down when going up isn't an option. In general, almost every boss I fight is on a skybridge
fun fact but gladius literally does not have a hitbox on the third stab. its just missing entirely somehow. check the gif on the official wiki page and you can clearly see it yourself

technically the starlight is a rapier which contradicting popular belief are actually often if times heavier than many broad-/longswords, if you feel like it plays enough like a shortsword I wouldnt judge your opinion anyways tho since as the creator you make the rules one way or another
Considering the 10% DR and +1 Regen from lead armor, it's really a coin toss between which is better. The one clear advantage for lead though is that it's much easier to get
a few notes i'd give on the builds along the way that i noticed, Early on the Abyssal Amulet would have made all of PH way easier, since it's a very strong debuff, and means that hit and run tacktics are that much more effective. for most of Hm it's decent enough, but later on it's odd to see boots in use at all, as they are in most cases just a wasted slot, as you use Wings so much more, and with bunny hopping you can keep up a good ground speed still, so on fights like ML especially, it would have definatly been better to have the Celestial Shell on for major stats and resistance to the Night Wither Debuff that ML inflicts, this would also have helpped in the EoL fight as she also inflicts this debuff. as for early PML, any Tracers are just an instant no go, they again provide very little benefit over other wings, as you tend to not just run around, and even then the bunny hopping works just fine, as well as them just having significatly worse flight time then other Lunar Wings, and especially considering Wing set bonuses you should be using pretty much any other wings over them, though Vortex abnd Nebula wings are actually worse then some Mid-HM wings, so they are an even bigger NO then Tracers, still, Solar, Stardust or Exodius wings are all equally good options if you aren't playing as any of those specific classes. as a seperate note, killing Providance in the Hallow is not needed, since the Wings re not much better then just Tarragon Wings are as wings, and in fact in some cases Tarragon can be better thanks to more Flight time, but with Tarragon Armor on Elysian Wings have even less of a use, as the Wing set bonus stats form Tarragon just out perform the minor mobility ups you would get form Elysian. So you only even need to kill her in the Underworld, which is nice, since you should clear an arean down there for Brimstone elemntal and Signus, as well as Guardians and Providance, meaning far less time on arena's spent in the world. (i did notice you actually used them, but never mentioned this, so i did) For DoG, unless you are doing very much so a Pure dps build or are extremely confident (even then still most of the time), having the Fleash Totem on is an incredable safty net as it let's you tank a Head hit and still be left with most of your hp, so i would always recommend it be on. On Yharon, there are 2 things, 1 that is not that major, and 1 that is just outright baffling, 1st is the used of Chalice of the Blood God, it's at best mediocre, and at worst (more often) a wasted slot and a hindrance. it's pretty much just a Charm of Myths (not Blood Pact) with a 25% max hp buff, ans it does still fully stack with Blood Pact, but the problem is that the effect it has on top of that is just not good, the Bleeding you take is equal to the hit that triggered it, the 5 damage you take up front still doesn't protect Adrenalin or dodges, so that's not a use for it, and the item wants you to use a healing potion to cut the Bleeding in half, but in most cases, if it's your 1st hit, let's say for 300 damage worth of bleed, and you instantly heal, then you just wasted half of the potions own healing on damage you have yet to recive, and half of that 300 original damage still goes through as bleed, meaning you just wasted 75% of your potions healing, on getting half the effectiveness while still taking half the damage, and if you wait to get hit again to get more bleed to cut, more often then not you would have already bleed the original damage, meaning you are now on 2/3rds hp, where yes the item finally has some use, but again if you now take a 300 damage hit, then you can heal for the original damage of the 1st hit and cut the next damage in half, which sounds good, until you realise that this is on a 45 second cooldown, still, so if you get hit 2 times in that time your potion is on cooldown then you just bleed to death along with all the other debuffs you might get from the hit. All it's doing in reality is making you look away form the fight and at the specific hard to see Dark red numbers, your hp during the fight and consider if you can use a potion now to get any value out of the effect, and then you most likely will get hit again in that. as for Tank builds, it offers no benefits, as it does not increse the total number of hits you can tank in pretty much any build. and in higher level casual play you just wouldn't get hit 2 to 3 times in a few seconds every minute or so, it's closer to getting hit once every 20 second to 60 seconds, so the bleed is jsut limiting your response time form a hit, since it takes multiple seconds to see the full effect of a hit on you since you can't just reactively heal after a hit, and the damage is just delayed. That was the more minor note, as in actual play it serves no benefit with little hinderence, but it has the potential to cause a lot more harm then it can ever help in anything, but the major thing is using the Elysian Tracers, they are the worst option at a stage comparatively, to any stage in the game, as they are pretty much just 1.80x to 2x worse then the next best option, and i can't think of another stage where there was this big of a gap on the options, as Silva Wings as a base have a general 80% better stats as wings, which if you then use any flight stat buffs will become jsut a far bigger gap fast, so Tracers are probably the worst option you can use on Yharon, since they literally are the worst of the 2 by all accounts. And that is the reason why the Elysian Wings form Providance are just useless, as Tarragon already covers there role, and Silva just out performs Tracers so hard that it's not even funny. and for the finally same notes as the 2 previous on the gear, though Celestial Tracers are bad they aren't nearly as abhorrently ass when compared to the best option of just not "upgrading" Drew's Wings. Still a fun video overall, and i personally think that as a sub-class the fact that it changes form an up close one to more ranged is not inherently a bad thing, obviusly it's just an opinion of mine as don't see the damage type tag on a weapon as a good way to judge how it should be, but more so as a place to draw ideas form.
Yeah if not for the Galileo Gladius it probably would be. But on the other hand the submarine shocker still technically did more DPS than it despite being an early hardmode weapon

So you only even need to kill her in the Underworld, which is nice, since you should clear an arean down there for Brimstone elemntal and Signus, as well as Guardians and Providance, meaning far less time on arena's spent in the world. (i did notice you actually used them, but never mentioned this, so i did)
For DoG, unless you are doing very much so a Pure dps build or are extremely confident (even then still most of the time), having the Fleash Totem on is an incredable safty net as it let's you tank a Head hit and still be left with most of your hp, so i would always recommend it be on.
Long shortswords i guess would just be spears or lances
great video
I miss shivs ngl. One of many things that fabsol could directly tell me the exact reason why, and I still wouldn't get it.
I really thought the elemental shiv would be S tier.
I guess the gladius is just a straight upgrade essentially though.
Yeah if not for the Galileo Gladius it probably would be. But on the other hand the submarine shocker still technically did more DPS than it despite being an early hardmode weapon
