Top tip: If you use hairspray as a lubricant to install new grips, it will work to help get the grip on and dry as a glue to help eliminate any slippage. It is also good to drop the new grip in warm/hot water for a few minutes to help the rubber become more flexible to avoid tearing it if a little force is needed.
@@MrPepper312 No problem! Hair spray is great for all kinds of other uses. It's works as both a lubricant while it's still wet and a mild glue when it dries.
@@GeekOT1 Any aerosol hairspray will do the trick. If you have a girlfriend, wife, or mother... They might be able to reccomend a brand name that sticks better than others.
I can't believe I'm only learning this now... worked like a charm, took no longer than 2 minutes to remove the factory grips from a 94 Transalp, and get the new ones in!! Amazing, thanks a lot. Spreading the good news amonst other motorcycle fans
I'm new to motorcycles and this video was a big help. Only thing I did different was that I sliced my old grips in half with a box cutter to remove them. The grips slid right on and the rubbing alcohol dried up in minutes, didn't even have to use any grip glue......
Not bad. Good help, in fact! I'm not sure about Aus but here in the US, aerosol ipa can be a bit challenging to find locally and would usually need to be ordered. If this is locally available in AUS, I am jealous!!!! If I may share what I do: I just lift the end of the grip and cut them off my bars using a knife or utility shears. They are either not what I want or they are worn anyway. Clean the bars with acetone, and then spray some hairspray onto the bar moments before I slip the new grip onto the bar. The hairspray acts like a lube for about 3 min and then it dries to an adhesive that wont slip. Give it a go !!!!
Great video I was trying to remove the end cap, but was sooooooooooooo hard. I was holding ONLY the end cap, but I believe something was rotating inside as I can hear metal clicks. At the end I stopped as the handle was not returning to its original possition as it should do. It returns very very slowly. Did I damaged it because I was holding only the end cap and not the whole thing?
Any idea where to get longer hand grips? Installed bar end mirrors, and now I have a gap between hand grip and mirror ( basically a space what original bar end were covering)... Good video any way
Thanks for this video, short and to the point! I am trying to change my grips for the first time as a beginner but I just cannot unscrew the bar end screw, it keeps rotating with something inside. I will try heat gun. Any suggestions? Thanks! P. .: DO YOU think that a hairspray will do the job to hold the new ones, or I should buy a pro grip glue? Thx!
My grip on the gas was really tight so i couldn't put in on by just push in straight line I hade to twist and be very rough to get it in. Can something be damaged? I mean I twisted so the gas went to the stop and then twisted even more to slide it on. I'm but worried now I did something
Don't use screwdriver. Simply put air pressure nozzle between the end grip and bar, apply little air pressure and the grip can be turned and pulled out .
i use wd40 instead of alchohol.mostly because i always have wd40.i guess it dont matter what u use as it just used as mild libricant to take off.but if u use wd40 make sure u get it all off on bars so grips wont twist around.
If you're installing new grips why would you put so much effort into preserving the old ones? You can use a razor blade to cut a line down the length of the old grip and peel it open like a banana. No one wants to jam a screwdriver into their bar end
on my throttle side the rubber grip pulled off but he plastic tube underneath is perforated and really on there.can i split the plastic and slip the grip on?
Quick question, what glue is it that they used on those because wouldn't the brake side or left side grip spin. I'm looking to replace mine or just reinstall the OEM ones after a handle bar replacement.
I know noone will answer but still, i put my grip on to the motorcylce but it didnt slide all the way in now its half on the throttle half outside and it doesnt want to slide in all the way ... its frozen
Word of advice. If you can afford a motorcycle, you can afford an air compressor. Get a damn air compressor. They are about $100 for a pancake style and you can use it for many things service related for your bike. Get the damn air compressor.
Nevermind figured it out so FYI whoever doesn't know when you get new grips make sure the throttle grip doesn't have a back wall on the end of the grip or your throttle will stick when you make it flush but if you do get some with that just cut out the wall on the throttle grip so it's hollow and you'll be good to go
What?! WHY?!!! Why would you use a Torque Wrench to loosen anything? You RUINED the torque wrench so you know. That reverse in Torque Wrenches is NOT for removing bolts! It’s for “REVERSE THREADS” we professional mechanics torque DOWN/TIGHTEN! Come on man, leave this stuff to the pros. I apologize for the harshness but DAMN, WHY?! Killing us ASE Mechanics…😂

What type of hairspray?

Thank you for just getting on with it an not making us watch minutes of preamble. Great instructional video.
Amen to that
Yes, a rare youtube video getting straight to the point.
Just use duct tape. The best is gorilla brand. Many colors to choose from.

Awesome, thank you! I have an ER6N, so always nice to see a familiar face in tutorials.

Great video. Used WD40 for mine to get the old grips off - worked a charm. Thanks for the super advice
Thanks dude. Worked like a charm.
"Setting fire to the bike can be bad for it" nuts xD
No wonder I couldn't get the throttle grip on...it was the smaller of the two🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️thanks.learn something new everyday.thanks again
Worked fine on my bmw 1150 gs, thanks mate!!!
What if your bar ends have no screws and look like solid pieces of metal at the end of your grips?
Very good vid, worked a charm with left grip ..just can't get the throttle grip out ....struggling
Thanks. So no glue?
Thanks you made this video clean and simple. Just what I needed to know.

Compressed air works well......if you have a compressor 👍
yeah i always use a compressor
Perfect. Kawasaki Er6n has Hand Grips 7/8" 22mm ?
Cheers bud!
It does work like a dream, I used break cleaner liquid spray, just so easy to come out, no need to cut anything
would this work for a scooter ? Stock grips are fine and all but want some thicker grips to reduce felt vibrations.
Thank you
Do you need to glue throttle grip?
Thanks for making this video mate!
Hi, how do you put a lever guard in that kind of handle bar?
Thank you so much man!
Any idea where to get longer hand grips? Installed bar end mirrors, and now I have a gap between hand grip and mirror ( basically a space what original bar end were covering)... Good video any way
Love the fire trick, I believe that also works for degreasing engines and stripping paint...
The fire trick unfortunately didn't work for me .. I had to go full nuclear war.

Use the Allen wrench with a combination of closed ended wrench to apply addition torque to the Allen wrench.
What would you recommend to use for aluminum grips?
Kristoffer Moxnes Do you mean the tube the grip goes on?
What's the best way to get a stripped bolt out of the bar? I have an er6n and both are stripped.
what's inside the spray? isopropyl ?
The bar end bolts come from the factory with red lock tight on the threads. Thats why it's hard to get lose.
My grip on the gas was really tight so i couldn't put in on by just push in straight line I hade to twist and be very rough to get it in. Can something be damaged? I mean I twisted so the gas went to the stop and then twisted even more to slide it on. I'm but worried now I did something

Don't forget the old penny washer and compressed air, pushing method.
I think I can do that!
Boss tanong ko lang kung may nabibili na white plastic na nakabalot sa right hand grip, ung kakapitan ng cable wire?salamat boss

Personally I'm adding heating elements under my existing grips. So them being in good condition is pretty important.
I have trouble with the clutch side. I can get it glued on.
So, youre saying i only need iso alchol to glue it and then its stuck??
Having hard time removing the ends. Only keeps on rotating but not actually removing. Any suggestions?
Sounds like it might be stripped. You might have to drill it out.
good
on my throttle side the rubber grip pulled off but he plastic tube underneath is perforated and really on there.can i split the plastic and slip the grip on?
Oh god I hope you didn’t do that
Haha nope I figured it out thanks hank goodness
can i use WD-40 instead of alcohol to loosen the handle grip?
Absolutely
Mine is too tight, I cannot unscrew it! Any Trick to solve this?
Quick question, what glue is it that they used on those because wouldn't the brake side or left side grip spin. I'm looking to replace mine or just reinstall the OEM ones after a handle bar replacement.
I used Honda grip glue and it worked, just be careful not to use to much.
@@anthonyintrieri3329 it's ok, somebody replied. Yes, finally someone notices me.
Where can I buy those grips ??
No glue?
Great Video, Although 1:45 was very oddly satisfying :)
What happens when you strip the bolt?
I does not able to unscrew my handlebar end and screw have been miss only Allen key get move and screw does not rotate
I had to twist the barend themselves to get them off. The bolt was entirely too tight I was about to strip it.
What if I have no bar end
Thanks !!!!
Where did you get pressure pack of alcohol? Google does provides spray packs
You're in Oz? I got it from Jaycar.
Yes I am... I looked on their web site and could not see any. Maybe worth to visit the shop
Here's the one I use

Stripped the screw as I was trying to get the bar ends off.. what now
I'm purchasing a new bike. it already has grip upgrades. the left, is loose. it spins freely. hoe can I fix this.
grip glue
do i need a glue for that?
I can’t seem to get the alcohol in a can here in the uk 🙄
I think it may be contact cleaner here
Is it necessary to use grip glue?
Joshua Spillers I've never thought it was necessary but it might depend on the quality if your grips.
Joshua Spillers I was thinking the same thing. a few other videos that I saw they used the grip glue.
What if the new grips are metal
Alcohol will damage some rubbers. I cut mine off, and use soap to put new ones on.
You dont use grip glue?
You forgot to point out, this video ONLY applies to certain grips!
today i learned they make aerosol iso alcohol in a can.
I know noone will answer but still, i put my grip on to the motorcylce but it didnt slide all the way in now its half on the throttle half outside and it doesnt want to slide in all the way ... its frozen
So use alcohol to take it off and try it again
Hello. Can i change the grips on my QQ moto? 49cc
My bar ends won't screw back on?
The insure of the handle bar is rubber and it just slides in and out without the screw action
i cant remove the fucking screw. send help
what if your grips are glue tight down and those steps don't work :(
angle grinder
don't actually do this
My grips are plastic...
