  • Hey, Friends! Happy Holidays!! I hope you're all doing well! Follow along as I take a trip down memory lane, to the days where my basement was an ECU chipping factory... Today I'll be chipping my P72 ECU and installing a Bluetooth module in hopes of being able to run a tablet as a digital race dash! I've come across many DIY's in my day for this exact process and I think I did a pretty good job in simplifying the process for everyone to learn!

      @@bvspeed I thought it was funny when you said you were shipping so many ECU's here to Ireland too.
      I have a Hondata bought for my H22 Prelude but I haven't gotten around to firing it in yet. It's not something I'm gonna try to do myself though!

    • @bvspeed

      I use a lead-free rosin core solder. I like to use a small diameter, that way I have more control of how much I’m adding into a joint. I forget the exact temp at which the solder melts, but I solder at just above that to keep board temps down as much as possible. If I have stubborn joints, I’ll ramp up the temperature momentarily.

    I read in a forum that older Hondas also got this lh 2.2 system and that as far as chipping, tuning, and data logging the Honda crowd has done the most with these old pre obd ecu's
    I am aware that these boards are obd1 and that you may not be able to help but this is my first go at tuning an ecu because All my other toys don't have them.
    I have spent days and days online on diff Volvo forums without much progress until I saw a guys post pointing me in the Honda direction. Your mods are exactley what I'm looking to do so if you any inf or know anybody with a pre obd stock ecu that's tuned with data logging capabilities a shove in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

    I have some tech questions say I bought an ecu and found out when the weather is cold the fuel pump doesn't prime I think because the prior owner might have hooked up the iacv plug in the iat and vise versa do you know what component I would need to replace?

    • @bvspeed
      @bvspeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When the IACV and IAT mix-up occurs, the IAT sensor or wiring usually gets damaged and/or the circuitry in the ECU for that sensor gets fried. The reason for that is because engine sensors (ie: IAT) are designed to run on 5V whereas the IACV is a solenoid that runs on battery power (12V). Ohms Law tells us that with an increase in voltage, comes an increase in amperage. Which unfortunately equals fried parts...
      The problem with the fuel pump not priming sounds like a separate issue. Evidence that it happens in the cold leads me to believe that the main/fuel pump relay has failed. Solder joints in the relay tend to crack over time. When it gets cold, a solder joint that has cracked will "shrink", creating an open in the circuit. I would suggest trying a new main relay or if you're feeling adventurous, open up your main relay to inspect the solder joints.

    • @boost_edjamesmathew2168
      @boost_edjamesmathew2168 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bvspeed It's not the main relay or any relay for that matter I've already check and swapped the relay even though the solder joints were still good and that wasn't the problem at all I've found that when the issue occurs I can literally warm up the ecu with a heater and it will start right up the reason I thought it could possibly be that the wires were swapped is cause I know and have seen Q31 be burned up as a result of the purge valve and iat being plugged in the others spot and I thought Q31 was also the transistor for the fuel pump with C14 and C15 being the caps

      @@bvspeed I really appreciate the reply bro after I replaced all of the capacitors the problem would only happen in more severe cold conditions it's weird I've heard of some people grounding the fuel pump output on the harness side so the pump primes everytime like basically bypassing it I guess

      @boost_edjamesmathew2168 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bvspeed The C14 does look a little weathered on the board where the capacitor originally leaked and I replaced it but like I said it's weird cause you wouldn't know anything was wrong with it how it starts up perfectly normal unless it's blistering cold outside that's the only reason I considered it could possibly be something else
