    I don't know Mike... if an S300 can run an 8-sec AWD Civic... hard to justify the change. It's O.G., it's nostalgic, and it's made FOR our beloved Honda's (doesn't fit any other car).

      The simple fact the ECU are 30 years old is enough reason to change. Can't tell you how many stock ECUs are trash just from age. For every 1 good ECU I've seen like 30 bad ones. Plus you need a trusted soldering installer, and harness installer .. it's a good system like he said. But once you get a GREAT standalone in your car you'll never want to go back. More power, more reliable more tuneability, more inputs and outputs, easy to go straight to COP. Big, traction control, CANBUS capabilities, self learning... So many ecu out there are well above the capabilities of hondata at the same price now.

    The biggest barrier by far for FuelTech on this platform is going to be the complexity and expense of wiring and sensors. It doesn't stop at just the ECU, you're going to have to find someone to modify FuelTechs universal harness or pay for a custom one, switch to T1 cam trigger if you haven't already as well as switching to coils, either FuelTechs or Smart. This is a really big issue if you already have a custom Rywire/WireWorx or other custom harness that now has to be scrapped or adapted to the FuelTech unit. As of right now Haltech and AEM still have much more accessible standalones, mostly because they're plug and plug.

      Also If u are a street car and need to pass an obd2 inspection in your state to get ur car tagged u can't because they won't be able to plug into ur OBD2 port for their computer to read and pass the emissions test, depending on the year of ur vehicle. Last year I had my Tax check and was ready to go from Kpro 4 to Fueltech ft450. I researched for weeks and came to the conclusion there was NOT enough support for Honda’s at the time. Support for doing the wiring and support for the initial setup etc. then you get into the trigger wheel and all that. I ABSOLUTELY loved the all in one dash/ecu. But the complexities and wiring etc seem quite DAUNTING. I’m quite savvy with doing wiring too and it STILL seemed like a gamble. You spend ALL that money and do ALL that wiring work you want it to ACTUALLY RUN afterwards. Fuel tech didn’t seem 100 percent full proof.

    My only issue with FuelTech and other stand alone systems, is for us street car guys that don't have full blown, trailered race cars and live in states that require reading from the obd2 port for vehicle inspections, the standalone systems can never "fool" the inspection systems, nor send data via the obd2 port.
    Where I live (in NY), I have to run kpro to keep the car legal.

It does the job for a regular Street tune Naturally aspirated Honda motor swap. No need for fuel tech on that.

    For a classic OBD1 Honda Civic you can still turbo it and get hondata for 500, and you said that the entry level $1,000 kit from fuel tech "might not have enough inputs" for a turbo setup, even though you said that the entry level price was comparable between the two. I love fuel tech they are awesome but it is also nice to have the screen available separately also if you are trying to save money so having it always included and costing hundreds more dollars doesn't seem like such an advantage to me as it is being advertised.

      its the ECU thats the problem, look for a Vtec p28 on ebay... its like $200 bucks. the s300 unit is $495. if you want coil on plug kit.. 400 bucks. Traction control on hondata 600 Bucks. PLUS the cost of chipping a hondata... if you dont know how to do it... like I said... hondata is a good unit... just outdated.

I paid wireworx for a custom harness that was about $700 and then paid like $550 for a S300 V2 not even a V3 and my car gives me constant TPS issues, no COP, no Bluetooth capability it sucks compared to Fuel tech. Could’ve had a better set up for a cheaper price.

There 2 port boost controller is $150. There are 3 GM sensors I must but as well. All together, it's a bit over $2000 done right using there products. Sup Mike, been a good time subscriber. Your content is legit. I have a 06' lexus IS250 FBO with start-up issues with the immobilizer system. You think the Fueltec can override that anti-theft system issue?

    • @diymike
      @diymike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if the immobilizer is IN THE ECU, then yes. but its not as simple as that, if is250 has a can bus system then you have a tune it for that on top of the engine.

    Can you use your stock gauge cluster with this unit?

  • @freestyleskyline
    @freestyleskyline 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like having my cars pass inspection. In my state, we get plugged in unfortunately. With kpro, I pass. I don’t believe you will pass with a stand-alone.

      California just banned that... this year for any "Tuned" cars .... that might spread to other states. With fuel tech... it is a Off Road use only unit... but what we are looking into is getting our 80 - 90's cars to some type of show car or classic Vehicle status to be exempt.... and to drive on the road. it is different state to state

      Good luck with that. It’s a shame that so many people are sticking their nose into the business of customizers. People who can’t tell a ECU from a brake pad are passing legislation that impacts us who just want to enjoy our older cars

      @@mikegillam1000 please look into "The RPM Act". This IS whats happening. The EPA, using the laws already on the books, has it on thier minds to change the way you and I modify our cars. And they mean to kill an industry built up around racing and tuning. Just look at what Brent over at PFI Speed is going thru. Get involved and spread the info you find.
