So many reactors are surprised that the Beastie Boys "actually rap". They grew up in NY at the dawn of rap. They were there on the ground floor. They are among the founding fathers of rap/hip-hop but they were doing their own thing right from the beginning.

Hip Hop has no respect for its history as a genre. That is why the founders like Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe D, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys have never been heard of by the generations after them. More Hip Hop fans know of LL Cool J and Ice-T as actors than revolutionary recording artists in a genre they listen to exclusively. Why this is will remain a mystery.

That's the "business plan" for the records companies, nobody really talk about this, but in the 80's-90's music was suddenly back to "ethnic references", instead of being humanity-unity. They target "ghetto" kids, and the "gangsta" ones, to get the "drug kid money" through the discs... Concerts became "monochrome", white kids listening to Nirvana, black/latino kids listening to "Coolio".
Anyway, since a couple of years, thanks to TH-cam and new medias, we can see a lot of them doing "exploration" reactions, and discovering all kind of music, and I think that this is a "real people" trending not a "major induced for money", and I have hope that more kids will listen from Beethoven to Beastie Boys, through Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix, Gershwin, Ella Fitzerald, Bob M, and even Django Reinhart ! :)

That was the era of harder music and the Beastie Boys brought it .. They say one of their influences is the 'Banned In D.C.' album by the all black member, one of the best to do it, hardcore punk rock band -The Bad Brains- which is absolute awesomeness. Cant praise theses musicians enough

This is one of their heavier songs. If you want something lighter and more fun react to Girls or Hey Ladies, or Sure Shot. The Beastie Boys are awesome in that they took a little but of rock, a little hip hop, a little funk and few other genres and mixed it all together so you get a huge difference from one song to the next but its ALL good s$#t 👍😅
