      I guess I'm one of the only BB superfans which that's my least favorite of their albums. Ill Communication was my intro, it came out when I was 14, and when I then listened to Licensed to Ill, it sounded corny by comparison. Still prefer all their others (not counting the instrumentals only).

    Thanks for this, bro!
    These lyrics were written by Run-DMC, btw. That reversed beat is the shit.
    Here's a fun fact: back in the day, rappers would make their own cassette tapes and sell them on the street and give them to DJs to play on the radio. Adrock from the Beastie Boys bought a tape from a super young rapper no one had heard of named LL Cool J and brought it to his friend (and co-founder of Def Jam Records), Rick Rubin, back when Def Jam was ran out of Rick Rubin's dorm room. Def Jam signed LL (at age 15) and the rest is history.

    • @edwarddavis6827
      @edwarddavis6827 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The sequential drum machine had the ability to play every instrument backwards. It was ground breaking back then.

    • @control_the_pet_population
      @control_the_pet_population 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From what I've read over the years, the band was goofing around on the drum machine and wrote the original beat, then it was MCA's idea to try it backwards. So he manually flipped the tape so it would run thru the player backwards and the rest is history. The drum machine couldn't do that on it's own, it was old school analog tape flipping to get the effect.

    • @BAF-ch4ts
      @BAF-ch4ts 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@control_the_pet_population I dont have any information on that, but I can tell you for sure the sequential could play the song. You could program it to play backwards. Every drum sound. I was involved with a group in the late 80s Royal Dynasty, I think one of the songs is on TH-cam. We used a sequential. Brewtown records, the song is "nsane" th-cam.com/video/3zoTrb2w0Cs/w-d-xo.html

But it has Will Ferrell, Jack Black, John C Reilly, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Elijah Woods, and Susan Sarandon just to name a few who are in it. @@megandavies8590 it's funny because when an interviewer asked them what Beastie Boys meant the other members were like "we like came up with the name one day" and I think it was Ad-Rock (Diamond) or MCA (Youch) told the interviewer it was an acronym for the above. Mike D was laughing because I think they were originally trolling the interviewer but in a later interview admitted that it was an afterthought after the band had been created and the band name agreed upon.

    Beastie Boys (white) are some of the pioneers of Hip Hop (they formed in 1978); helping to form the culture and music, long before Eminem released his first album (1996).

    "3 MC's and one DJ"
    It's the story of how they formed the Beastie Boys.
    "Released in 1986 on Licensed to Ill, this song helped make the Beastie Boys-it’s the tale of how they got acquainted. The title is a little misleading, as it has nothing to do with the American figure, Paul Revere; that’s just the name of Adrock’s horse. Reportedly, the inspiration for this song came when the Beastie Boys were waiting outside a recording studio for Run-DMC, and Joseph Simmons, aka Run, came booking down the street, screaming incoherently. When he reached the Beastie Boys, he said, “Here’s a little story I got to tell…” And from there, the two groups collaborated on the lyrics.
    It’s produced by Rick Rubin, and is remarkable for the 808 drumbeat played in reverse.
    “That backwards 808? If I think right, it was actually Joe, Run, from Run-DMC. It was his idea to flip the tape up. He was there, like, ‘Hey, y'all should flip the tape around so that shit’s backwards.’ Either that, or we had it on backwards and he heard it, he bugged out, and that’s when he said, ‘Y'all have to do a story rhyme over the shit.’ And he came in started writing the shit with us.” -Michael Diamond, 1995"
