*Paul's Boutique* carved their name on the top of Mount of da Legendary Rap Albums ...
For 1989, nothing sounded like that...simply a masterpiece...
As a freshman in college, people would basically take turns blasting their favorite tracks from Paul's Boutique into the quad at Porter College UCSC. I've got several copies on vinyl including the huge fold out version with the whole intersection inside.
Beastie Boys are Mike D(drums), Adrock (guitar) and MCA (bass). 3 members. They have had a couple DJs over the course of their career, most notably Mixmaster Mike (1997-2012) and DJ Hurricane (1986 - 1997), Rick Rubin deejayed as DJ Double R from 1983-85. They also use session players Money Mark on organ, and Fredo Ortiz/Eric Bobo on percussion and AWOL played drums on the hardcore material whilst Mike D sang. On their final album Beastie Boys didnt use any samples and played all the music and chopped it up and sampled themselves. But their greatest album is 1989's "Paul's Boutique", 99% samples and its a masterpiece, you should check out "Hey Ladies" or "Shake Your Rump" to start.
Right on Paul! 🙏🙏
Adrock is the high voice, Mike D is the mid voice, MCA is the lower voice playing bass. RIP MCA
They were there near the beginning. More people NEED to understand that. Originators not pretenders.
The more you listen to the Beasties, you'll pick up on the individual vocal nuances of the members. 🙃
Great reaction channel.
3 guys who play the instruments, make the beats and write the rhymes. They basically do everything from the music to making the videos. MCA bass rough voice, AdRock guitar real nasal voice, Mike D drums middle voice.
Right on for this Anthony! 🙌🙌
This track is pure fire; Mix Master Mike is a genius
This song is a lesson in the roots of Rap (aka, NYC scene). Looking up the references is like a self-taught "Rap Anthropology 101" class.
DrVonChilla is 60 years old now.....and he declares BEASTIE BOYS FOREVER...!!!!
62 in December.
I’m right there with you.
🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥
Root Down (And Get It) by Jimmy Smith
I was in high school when the came out. It was fun! Their Glasgow concert is flawless! nonstop energy. Nobody can rock a whole show like them! (Although I haven't seen The Roots in concert. They could also!)
Love the reaction! You couldn’t have said it any better, than when you said, “What a time to be alive”! I grew up in this era, and what a time it was! But,it saddens me to think about how things have changed so drastically, in such a short amount of time… But hey, you can always throw on the Beastie Boys, and travel back in time, if only for a while…
The 80s-90s B-boy Breakdance scene was such a cultural peak. So much amazing talent.
my favorite Beastie Boys song!
Nice reaction. Like the song, it’s 3 MCs and 1 DJ in the group. They also play the instruments on the songs.
MCA-bass. Mike D-drums.
ADRock-guitar.
Any days a good day when the Beasties are playing
MCA was always the best one to me
This is a great Beasties song. I was in college in the early 90s and I actually did see them in concert, I think in 92, and they were awesome.
Another band that came out around then and is musically amazing is Tool. You should check them out if you never have. Start with The Pot and see what you think.😊
Right on! ✍️😆
Beastie Boys are the greatest group of all time and not just in hip hop
these vids, make me think Ad Rock is maybe one of the greatest rappers of all time
You gotta hear the unedited version. That’s why some of the words are unintelligible. They scrambled the curse words
+RetroStefRemix: This is great and all but you've got to check out Open Letter to NYC and the live version they did for MTV.
@3:10 This is censored. “Oh my god that’s the funky sht.” (Although ‘grab my dyk’ is not censored ?). There’s about 4 timesin this where they scratched the track over swear words or mentions of drugs or guns or disrespecting women. They matured and went back and censored themselves. Also helps with radio play.
R.I.P. MCA aka Adam Yauch 😢
RIP 🙏🙏
MCA-bass
Ad Rock-guitar
Mike D-drums
They make their own beats/music. Also play funk, jazz, metal, pink, acid, etc.
Additional keyboard and dj and percussion members come and go.
Mike D and Ad Rock do sound similar.
Right on family!! 🙌🙌😆
They also used a ton of sample, and Adrock is a beast (pun intented) with sample grooves. This song is mostly sampled from Jimmy Smith's Root Down (And Get It).
root down, bro! :)
Oof, I feel old now. 😁💜
All love Jonni! ❤️😆
Yeah three guys but they flow as one
Stef can yah do im gone by Nick nittoli
Added to the list! 😆😆🙌
I hope you get that you're hearing the G rated swear free version. The censorship makes the flow fall apart at a couple of points.
