Beastie Boys released 8 albums from 1986-2011. They went platinum, double platinum, triple platinum, and even diamond. They are the best selling rap group ever by far. You can listen to 20 songs of theirs before finding one you don't like a whole lot.
Eminem even looked up to and was inspired by the Beastie Boys... Also .. Beastie Boys' "Adrock" Kicked Off LL Cool J's Career and Laid the Beat on His Debut. .. They really are legends of the 80's and 90's!!
This is from 1998. I remember watching the premiere of this video on MTV when I was really young. It’s an homage to 50’s/60’s Japanese kaiju films and was filmed at two major train stations in Japan, Shibuya and Shinjuku. Directed by MCA who is one of the members, he was incredibly multi-talented. My mom’s been a fan since she was a kid in 1986, so I was raised on the Beasties myself. This is basically their only song we can’t agree on; I’ve always loved it, she never has.
Mike D is actually doing the Wop as he says “I am known to do the Wop”. It was popular in the early/mid 80s. The Beastie Boys started as a Punk band, and punk clubs were where a lot of the earliest rap artists like Afrika Bambaataa would play. In the early 80s they switched from punk to hip hop and in 1986 they scored the first ever #1 rap album with licensed to ill. The Beastie Boys helped make Def Jam a successful label & also helped LL Cool J get his record deal. They were a very important piece of hip hop history that moved the genre to the popularity it has today.
There were a couple of great all-ages punk clubs where I grew up that turned Saturday into rap nights - the array of music I got to see in the mid/late ‘80s was amazing!
Beastie Boys are the greatest group of all time man, they are all about having fun. They started out as a punk band, then switched to rap, had the first #1 rap album in music history with their debut Licensed to Ill in 1986, made Def Jam a household name, check out "Paul Revere", "The New Style", "So Whatcha Want", "High Plains Drifter", "Shadrach", "Shake Your Rump".....they didnt make bad music.
See, this is why the older generation shake their heads at stuff like mumble rap. It's been 26 years since this track was released, I was in high school back then, and it _still_ slaps in 2024. The Beastie Boys are from New York City, they started as a hardcore punk band before developing their sound, they're responsible for getting LL Cool J his big break (Ad Rock gave his demo to Rick Rubin, and LL Cool J was the first artist signed to Def Jam as a result), their debut album "Licensed to Ill" (1986) was the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart. In the mid-90s The Beasties (particularly Mike D) took Beck of "Loser" fame (see here: th-cam.com/video/YgSPaXgAdzE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Xc5wECXoipiYsxUU) under their wing when the guy (who is a brilliant musician with a genre-bending style that incorporates rap, amongst others) was in danger of becoming a one-hit-wonder, and connected him with The Dust Brothers to produce his critically acclaimed 1996 sophomore album, "Odelay". They were a huge influence on Eminem, so much so that 2018's "Kamikaze" cover art pays homage to 1986's "License to Ill". So yeah, if it weren't for the Beasties, we may not have Eminem.
Whaaaaat?! Your first Beastie Boys?! You are in for a loooong journey...these beats, bars, and flow are still 🔥 today....some more: Shake Your Rump Paul Revere Three MCs and One DJ Sure Shot Pass the Mic New Style Rhymin and Stealin No Sleep Til Brooklyn Too Many Rappers (ft Nas) Slow Ride Hey Ladies ...soooo many pretty much any Beastie Boys song...old school hip-hop royalty....do some of these and you definitely got another sub 😁
The most amazing thing is that the beastie boys has slightly, fallen off the radar when this came out in 1998. Slightly, I stress. They came back with this and it was over every radio station and MTV worldwide. Pure class these guys.
This dropped when I was still in high school. Back then, students could bring in the latest CDs and have songs played on the speakers during lunch. Intergalactic was played once a day for at least half the school year. Also, the album version ends with Biz Markie reacting to the song and doing a brief freestyle.
Everybody's already explained most of everything in the comments. So I'll just say listen to Paul Revere, read the lyrics, Car Thief, Sabotage and High Plains Drifter! The first song in the last song listed really tell good stories as well. The Beastie Boys are known for being able to tell a story in their songs, like you can actually picture what's going on while they're flowing...
This song came out in 1998. And yes, all three in the suits are the BEASTIE BOYS 👍🏼😁♥️ They are Ad-rock (the one rapping high pitched), MCA (the tall one-RIP) and Mike D
King Adrock,(Adam Horowitz) Mike D (Michael diamond) , MCA (Adam Yauch) from Manhattan, and Brooklyn heights. Rap was stuck in the Bronx and Brooklyn until Run DMC and the Beasties broke out in 1983 (cookie puss, 1984 poly wig stew released) 1986 saw license to ill get to be the First rap album to go platinum and they remain the biggest rap act of all time (album sales). Oh yeah.they also discovered LL cool J.
The group was composed of Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar), Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass. RIP), and Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums, programming). And yes, they are the three guys you see in the video. They stared in and directed all their music videos, which are meant to look like they were filmed in a basement or the backyard. Legendary for a good reason, glad you've come to watch them, fam.
Sadly, Adam Yauch passed away from cancer in 2017 and the group disbanded in honor of him. But they were real ones, so much so they paid for a person's transition at one point because said person helped them break out onto the scene. And they are from NYC and started as a punk band.
Throwback! Friends of mine dressed up like them in this video (Adam "MCA" Yauch, Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz) for Freakers Ball, so I feel old! As one of their biggest hits, it actually won a Grammy in 1999. They also performed it live at the MTV Music Awards that year and my niece told me she liked them even though they were old!
MikeD, MCA, and The King Adrock. A few of their earliest work didn't age well. I recommend starting with License to Ill, and their break out hit "Fight for your right to party". It only gets better, but it is cool to see how they matured over the years and put out some amazing tracks. Root Down is probably my favorite.
The "wop" and "flintstone drop" are just some old school dance moves, like the sprinkler and bus driver and electric slide and $#!+...great reaction by the way dude just subscribed
You need to do 3mc's & 1dj. Piped in live as their performance for an Mtv music awards. Live, 1 dj, 1 record, 1 take, no beat machine. 100 percent pure hip hop from concentrate.
Best part is the diss to Kool Moe D's "rating" of the Beastie Boys. He rated them dead last as rappers, but did give them a perfect score for staying on theme.
I just saw your Vanilla Ice video so I commented "white rappers? have you checked out Beastie Boys yet" then i found this. Lessgooooo.. A great one to do next is 3 Mc's and 1 DJ.
Wop was just something that rhymed with flop but w.o.p. goes way back. Derogatory. means with out papers and was usually in reference to Italian immigrants to the states.
Check out "The New Style" to see why they let the beat.....mmmmmmmdrrrrrop. "Get it together" feat Q tip Paul Revere Root Down Brass Monkey Sabotage Whatcha Want Too Many Rappers feat Nas Shake your Rump
I like this a lot better than "rappers" screaming out "skeeeeettttt" and shit, God have your flow and rhyme and make your song incoherent sounds out your mouth lol. Timothy charlamet and Pete Davidson on SNL sumed up new rap perfectly lol.
you need to react to "weird al" yankovic (vick not vich). he's the god of parodies and considered one of the best white rappers. dare to be stupid, amish paradise, hardware store, everything you know is wrong, legend has charted every decade since the 80's
Bro i know its probably just for viewer interaction but the release dates are almost always in the description of the video you are watching when you ask the question.
Why do I give a f%ck about the opinion of a black teenager, who probably thinks mumble rap is the shit, and doesn't know who the Beastie Boys are? Never mind, they have multiple Grammy's and are one of the best rap groups of all time. They are in the hall of fame for f%cks sake! If you've never heard of them before, you know f%ck all about rap and and aren't fit to comment. 😅
If you’re going to do a “reaction” and then “critique” like you’re a damn critic then do your HOMEWORK beforehand. You’d know they are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and are ranked in the top 5 or top 10 best all time, depending on who’s list. What we older people CAN help you out with is how BIG these guys were. I lived on the West Coast and their music was blasting out of car windows. Pre Internet, social media, I’ve heard they were immensely huge in New York, Northeast area, where they were from. I’ve seen to many first time reactors no nothing about their content and then dismiss the Beastie Boys with the comment-Not bad for three white boys.
Beastie Boys released 8 albums from 1986-2011. They went platinum, double platinum, triple platinum, and even diamond. They are the best selling rap group ever by far. You can listen to 20 songs of theirs before finding one you don't like a whole lot.
What songs you don't like a whole lot? I'm still searching
@@JohnHill-bn5kn I like almost all of them. On all of their albums there's only a couple that I skip.
The Wop is a dance also know as the flintstone flop which was a dance too they show a little drip on those dances during that bar
this new generation lives in poverty they are empty vessels
I totally agree!! I love them! ❤
Eminem even looked up to and was inspired by the Beastie Boys... Also .. Beastie Boys' "Adrock" Kicked Off LL Cool J's Career and Laid the Beat on His Debut. .. They really are legends of the 80's and 90's!!
Just to add to this, Eminem’s Kamikaze album cover is an homage to the Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill.
I will say em can't be at their level and tell he can do a all turntable or beat box track

Isn't it Ad Rock ?
@@stevestrickland0425 both do the wop but Mike D says the line.
There were a couple of great all-ages punk clubs where I grew up that turned Saturday into rap nights - the array of music I got to see in the mid/late ‘80s was amazing!
"From the family tree of old school hip hop" no truer words have been spoken...

Greatest group of all time and not just in hip hop
Bone Thugs for me. But they in there for sure. 🤙
NWA or wutang clan in my opinion but the beastie boys are undeniably great no doubt
This came out in 1998; I was in 7th grade obsessed with this song. My parents surprisingly bought this for me that Christmas, food memories
The beastie boys are one of the greatest and most important rap groups in history. They're extremely dope and nobody sounds like them
The documentary shot by their fans is one of a kind. No one touches their creativity. Their approach. Class and heart.
See, this is why the older generation shake their heads at stuff like mumble rap. It's been 26 years since this track was released, I was in high school back then, and it _still_ slaps in 2024.

First, the important question. Are these 3 the Beastie Boys? Yes, yes they are. 👍
LL said BB gave him his shot. Without them he'd not be around. They are respected by EVERY rapper for the last 30 yrs

The wop was a super silly dance in the 80s. He did a bit of this as he said the rhyme.
Wop was a dance back from the 70's and 80's.

Paul's Butique is one of their best albums. Beastie boys are the GOAT.
